Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes
Nice, but where's the trigger? This article or section is incomplete. You can help IMFDB by expanding it. |
Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes is a short precursor game to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain developed by Kojima Productions and published by Konami for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One in 2014, with a release for Windows PC on Steam later the same year. Following on from Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, Big Boss must infiltrate a top-secret detention facility, Camp Omega, in order to rescue two high-value prisoners.
For reasons which are not entirely clear, the game drops the series' prior tendency to use real weapons with generally correct names, instead mostly featuring fictional hybrid weapons based closely on real ones from the era.
The following weapons appear in the video game Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes:
For weapons relating to its sister game, see Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.
WU Silent Pistol
The "WU Silent Pistol" [Windurger No.2 Silent Pistol] is a suppressed tranquiliser gun. It holds 8 rounds in the the magazine and as it is single shot only, the slide must must be manually worked to chamber a new round.
The gun substitutes the Mk.22 - featured in MGS3, PO & PW - and Ruger Mk. II - featured in MGS4.
AM D114
The "AM D114 Pistol" [Arms Material Delta-114 Combat Pistol] is .45 Cal pistol with a 8 round capacity. It is the back up side-arm for the Marines and the XOF Troopers. Aesthetically similiar to Colt M1911A1, Browning Hi-Power and Smith & Wesson Model 39 - 3 pistols all which have been utilized by elements of US Army during Vietnam war.
The gun substitutes for the M1911A1 that has been featured through-out the MGS series, starting with 2004's MGS3.
URAGAN-5
The "URAGAN-5 Pistol" [BTS Instrument Design Bureau Uragan-5 Pistol] is a 5 round pistol that uses non-lethal shotgun rounds. Aesthetically similiar to certain break-open- and automatic revolvers (Mateba 2006M Autorevolver) and flareguns (No 4 Mk 1 flaregun)
While there have been shotguns and grenade launchers that shoot non-lethal shells in MGS, there yet has been a dedicated weapon for knock-out rounds like URAGAN-5. Althrough it's true capablities and function in the main game - The Phantom Pain - is yet unknown.
AM-69
The guards at the Cuban prison camp are armed with "AM-69's" [Arms Material Rifle Type 69.] It is part of the fictional firearm series unique to this game which includes the "AM-69", "AM-69 AAS", and The AM MRS-4". They utilize features of Armalite AR-16/AR-18 deratives - namely Daewoo K2 and the SAR 80 to which they closely resemble - and FN FAL (such as the long front hand guard.)
The gun substitues for M16A1 featured in MGS3, PO & PW.
MRS-4
Snake's main issued rifle is the "MRS-4" [Arms Material Multi-purpose Rifle System model 4.] It is part of the fictional "Arms Material" rile series in the game, and draws design influences from the FN FAL and AR-16/AR-18 deratives (such as SR 88 and the Daewoo K2). It features a FN Para style stock, FN style side charging handle, cylindrical fore-arm with attached tactical torch, removable suppressor, and utilizes STANAG 5.56x45mm magazines.
It is revealed in Phantom Pain that MRS-4 is a highly modular weapon, making the weapon compareable to MGS4's M4 Custom and perhaps Peace Walker's Colt M653 Carbine.
M2000-D
The "M2000-D" [Broughton Model 2000 Sniper Rifle, Detachable-Magazine] is the in game sniper rifle, it uses 7.62mm rounds, and has a variable zoom scope. It is inspired by "Early Cold War" Sniper Rifles like Remington 700/M40 rifle.
The gun substitutes for Remington 700 featured in Peace Walker.
Sz.-336
The XOF troopers are armed with sub-machineguns, dubbed the Sz.-336 SMG [Sodomka zbrojovka Type 336 Submachine Gun.] Like most weapons in the game, it appears to be made up of parts from various real firearms, namely the ones in SA.23 SMG and Uzi family tree.
One main change is the moving of the cocking handle from the top of the reciever , to the left of the reciever. The Smg comes equiped with a removable flashlight and suppressor.
The gun is mostly substitute for the Vz. 61 featured in MGS3, PO, PW and possibly even MAC-10.
S1000 Shotgun
The "S1000" [Broughton Model 1000 Series Shotgun] shotgun is a fictional weapon in the Metal Gear series, although it bears some resemblance to various real world shotguns.
The weapon substitutes for Ithaca 37 featured in MGS3, PO & PW.
FB R-Launcher
The "FB R-Launcher" [Falkenberg Multi-Role Rocket Lancher] is a re-loadable recoilless rifle. While its explosive damage is extremely powerful, the re-load time is the slowest of any of the weapons in the game. In overall design and appearance it resembles the Carl Gustav M3, however some details are different.
Indeed, it most likely substitutes for Carl Gustav M2 featured in Peace Walker.
C4
"C4" is an explosive device which can be placed on most surfaces in the game, and remotely detonated.
M18A1 Claymore
M18A1 Claymore - called "M21 D-Mine" [M21 Directional Anti-Personnel Mine Stilett] in-game with mild aesthetic alterations - is obtainable to the player.
M67 hand grenade
M67 hand grenade - called "Hand Grenade" [Type 58 Hand Grenade] in-game - is obtainable to player.
Grenades can be found in armories, storage shelves and watch towers all-around Camp Omega. They are also used by the enemy in certain situations.
M93-T Smoke/Flare Grenade
An icon for Flare Grenades are seen in IGN's extended gameplay video. They could be used to summon the MSF gunship as Big Boss's extraction method when Big Boss frees Chico and Paz. The outline and nature of the grenade suggests that it is the M93-T Smoke/Flare Grenade.
Unknown lever-action rifle/shotgun
During the opening cutscene of Ground Zeroes mission - when Skullface and XOF unit have boarded a helicopter and are getting rid of the patches - a brief glimpse of the front end of Skullface's weapon can be seen.
In one of FOX engine demonstrations, a gun wall with handful of MGSV weapons was shown and amongst them is a shortened lever-action weapon with a case-hardened steel receiver.
When infiltrating the boiler room of the admin building (where Paz is located), some of guards talk about Skullface, saying "that piece he is carrying is a sawed-off old lever-action" - confirming that Skullface is the one who wields it.
Unknown MG
Part of a convoy in the debut trailer has a unknown MG mounted on a truck.
M61 Vulcan
Four M61 Vulcans in M167 VADS installations can be found inside Camp Omega; they can be used by Big Boss, or destroyed using C4: doing so will unlock new landing zones for the support helicopter. The side op "Destroy The Anti-Air Emplacements" tasks Big Boss with destroying at least three of them to prepare for a US military attack on the base.
Shipunov 2A42
A Shipunov 2A42 chaingun is mounted on the attack helicopter which can be called in to extract prisoners or knocked-out Marines, the Fulton System having apparently deserted Big Boss since Peace Walker. This helicopter, "Morpho," is a fictional modification of the Mi-28 Havoc, with a deeper fuselage containing a Hind-like transport compartment accessed via a side door.
