The Pawnbroker (1964)

The Pawnbroker was the first fictional account of the Holocaust in American film. Directed by Sidney Lumet (Serpico, Dog Day Afternoon) , the film featured Rod Steiger (In the Heat of the Night), Geraldine Fitzgerald, and Brock Peters (To Kill a Mockingbird). A New York pawnbroker and Holocaust victim suffers from survivor’s guilt.
