XM177E2 ? - bozitojugg3rn4ut 15:19, 10 February 2012 (CST)

From what I can see that matches, but would need better shot of the flash hider to know for sure. --commando552 14:55, 13 February 2012 (CST)
Unfortunately, there is no better shot of the gun. Considering that it is from an archive footage, it is probably a real XM177E2, not a mock-up. On the M16 page there is no other variant with this kind of a barrel and forward assist, that is why I thought it is a XM177E2. - bozitojugg3rn4ut 15:15, 13 February 2012 (CST)

Is this some sort of variant of the MAG? According to wikipedia, that is what should be mounted on a Merkava Mark IV MBT. - bozitojugg3rn4ut 13:37, 13 February 2012 (CST)

Yeah, that is the loaders FN MAG. It looks odd because it is fitted with the barrel of the coaxial variants (like the M240C) which have no flash hider or front sight. I assume it is meant to aim purely with tracer fire, which is fair enough considering you are firing from the roof of a tank as it bounces around. --commando552 14:55, 13 February 2012 (CST)
It is part of a remote weapons station? --Funkychinaman 14:57, 13 February 2012 (CST)
Don't think so, if it was part of an RWS I think you would see sensors and a sturdier mount. Also, the gun would be mounted directly on top of the tank, not hanging off to the side. The loaders mount is barbaric on the Merkava, it is pretty much a cradle on the end of a pole that you can swing around to where you want it. --commando552 15:12, 13 February 2012 (CST)
No, it is not part of a RWS. Oh, and thanks. --bozitojugg3rn4ut 15:15, 13 February 2012 (CST)
