AS Val

AS Val, 9x39mm SP-5, SP-6 or PAB-9

The AS Val is an Assault Rifle version of the VSS Vintorez. Its main differences are that the AS Val is equipped with a folding stock, possesses a 20-round magazine capacity (also usable by the VSS Vintorez), and it uses a slightly different 9X39mm round. It can use a PSO-1 scope as well.

Unlike most assault rifles, the AS Val is not designed to fire without its integral suppressor attached, and to that end its front sights are mounted on the end of the suppressor rather than on the end of the barrel as is the case for most assault rifles. Current version of the AS Val move the front sight to the handguard to facilitate un-suppressed use.

SR-3M with PSO-1 scope 9x39mm

The Vikhr (meaning "Whirlwind" in Russian), based on the AS Val, is an ultracompact assault rifle with a 20-round magazine capacity developed for use by VIP protection teams and State Security operatives. Unlike its parent firearms, it cannot mount a suppressor, integral or otherwise.

A more recent variant, the SR-3M ("M" for "modernized") was developed as a more versatile alternative for Law Enforcement. It features a 30-round magazine capacity, a collapsible foregrip in the handguard, the ability to mount a detachable suppressor similar to that of its parent firearms', a front sight mounted on the handguard, and a redesigned folding stock.

SR-2M, 9x21mm

Derived from the SR-1 "Vektor" pistol, this Personal Defence Weapon fires the proprietary 9x21mm SP-10 round designed to penetrate most body armour (despite the similarity in size, it is not identical to the 9x21 IMI round). It is gas operated, and its mechanism is similar to the SR-3 compact Assault Rifle. Both the SR-2 and the SR-2M (M for Modernized) can use 20- to 30-round magazines and feature a folding buttstock. The SR-2M however allows for red dot sights to be mounted, as well as possessing a folding vertical foregrip near the muzzle.

Translation notes: "SR-2" stands for "Spetsialnaya Razrabotka 2" in Russian, which means Special Development 2 in English. "Veresk," the weapon's codename, is the Russian word for the "Heather" plant.
