The Thompson M1921AC is seen throughout the film in the hands of criminals Kate "Ma" Barker (Lurene Tuttle), Arthur "Doc" Barker (Ron Foster), Fred Barker (Eric Morris), Herman Barker (Don Spruance), Alvin Karpis (Paul Dubov), Volney Davis, Homer Van Meter, "Baby Face" Nelson (Robert Kendall), and John Dillinger (Eric Sinclair). All of the criminals use Thompsons with drum magazines. The federal agents Avery (David Carlile) and Baxter (Dan Riss) are also seen wielding Thompsons with box, rather than drum, magazines.

The Colt Detective Special is the sidearm of choice of most criminals in the film, including Herman Barker (Don Spruance), Arthur "Doc" Barker (Ron Foster), "Baby Face" Nelson (Robert Kendall), and George "Machine Gun" Kelly (Victor Lundin). Ma (Lurene Tuttle) hands Doc's to Arthur Dunlop (Tristram Coffin) for the game of Russian Roulette. FBI agents Avery (David Carlile) and Baxter (Dan Riss) also keep them holstered on their hips.
