Based on actual events, the series follows Reeves as an enslaved servant to a Confederate Cavalry Colonel during the American Civil War to his time apprehending outlaws for the U.S. Marshal Service in the Indian Territory (present day Oklahoma) during the time of the Wild West. The series is being executive produced by Oyelowo and Taylor Sheridan and the cast includes Dennis Quaid , Shea Whigham , Forest Goodluck , Barry Pepper , and Donald Sutherland . The series premiered on the streaming service Paramount+ on November 5, 2023.
