Audie Murphy became an actor because his fame as a war hero propelled him into that line of work. He had very little formal education and Hollywood gave him a chance for economic prosperity. He was a war hero and an actor. The two "roles" are intertwined.He was one and the same from the end of the war until he was killed in a plane crash in 1971.
