North and South: Book II (also known as North and South Book 2: Love and War , after the title of the original novel) is a 1986 6-part miniseries, the second part of a trilogy adapted from trilogy of novels North and South by John Jakes. It depicts the story of two large families: Mains, planters from South Carolina, and Hazards, industrialists from Pennsylvania, during the Civil War. Main characters are Orry Main (Patrick Swayze ) and George Hazard (James Read ) who became friends while attending the United States Military Academy at West Point. While fighting on opposite sides of the Civil War, they still struggle to maintain their friendship.

Colt 1851 Navy are widely used throughout the series, notably by Union Brigadier General George Hazard (James Read ), 1st US Sharpshooters regiment Lt. Stephen Kent (Whip Hubley ), and Confederate officers Maj. Joshua Dupree (Patrick Dollaghan ), Capt. Charles Main (Lewis Smith ), Capt. Thomas Turner (Wayne Newton ), Lt. Ambrose Pell (James Houghton ), and Lt. Jimmy Pickles (Gary Grubbs ). These revolvers at most can be identified as cap and ball guns (see below for cartridge version).

Orry Main (Patrick Swayze ) (one of two of his usual revlolver, together with a Remington 1858 New Army ) and Capt. Charles Main (Lewis Smith ), Southern volunteer Augusta Barclay (Kate McNeil ), former slave turned gang boss Cuffey (Forest Whitaker ) and dismissed overseer of Mont Royal estate Salem Jones (Tony Frank ). These revolvers are at most cap and ball guns.

Colt 1860 Army (Cartridge)
Two versions of cartridge Colt 1860 Army revolvers are seen.
The first model, mostly used by Lt. Billy Hazard (Parker Stevenson ), lacks the loading lever under the barrel. Gen. Orry Main (Patrick Swayze ) briefly holds this revolver instead of his usual common Colt Army.
The second model has a standard construction, cartridge cylinder and silver finish; it is seen in hands of a boss of street thugs in Charleston (uncredited). This revolver has nothing with Richards or Richards-Mason conversions and most likely is a modern replica, made for cartridge loading with keeping the outlook of cap and ball Colt Army.
