Salvatore Giuliano
Salvatore Giuliano is an Italian made movie directed by Francesco Rosi, released in 1962. It narrates the story of the Sicilian outlaw Salvatore "Turiddo" Giuliano ("Turiddo" is the "Salvatore"'s Sicilian diminutive), and is fight from the end of World War Two up to his death in 1950. The film has received different critics, both positive and negative, depicting quite correctly historical events and local traditions, but otherwise depicting Sicily as a primitive land. Pictures about this movie are very rare to find.
Another movie about the life of Salvatore Giuliano appeared in 1987. It was based on the eponymous novel by Mario Puzo.
The following weapons are featured in the film Salvatore Giuliano:
Handguns
Beretta M1934
The Beretta M1934 was the standard sidearm for Italian forces. It was used by Army officers and all the Carabinieri.
Colt M1911
An M1911A1 is seen lying next to Giuliano's (Pietro Cammarata) dead body at the beginning of the movie. It is canonically incorrect, because Giuliano's signature handgun was a FN-Browning HP.
Submachine Guns
Thompson Submachine Gun
Several versions of Thompson are used in this movie. An M1 Thompson is the gun mainly used by Giuliano's second-in-command Gaspare Pisciotta (Frank Wolff) throughout the movie. Several others Guiliano's bandits use Thompson M1 and M1928 fitted mainly with box magazines. A Thompson M1 is also used during the ambush at the Carabinieri's station.
STEN
A Sten Mk II is seen slung over the back of one bandit guarding Giuliano's place when a Senator of the EVIS (Ente Volontario Indipendenza della Sicilia, Sicily's Independentist Voluntary Entity) went to discuss with Turiddo. The other one is depicted in the photo below.
MP40
The MP40 is the second most used submachine gun in the movie. Used only by Giuliano's men. Giuliano used one during the ambush at the pagliaio to a patrol of Carabinieri.
Beretta Model 38
The two versions of the Beretta Model 38 (also known as the MAB or Moschetto Automatico Beretta) are seen in the movie. The MAB 38A is used by the Italian Army and the Carabinieri in uniform and in plain clothes. The MAB 38/42 is used by the bandits of Giuliano and by Giuliano himself in several occasions. A MAB 38/42 is found near his dead body.
Rifles
Mannlicher-Carcano M1891 Cavalry
The Cavalry musket (musket is used in Italy to designate a very short carbine) model of the old bolt action Italian infantry rifle Carcano M1891 is used by some of the Army soldiers and mainly by the Carabinieri. In a scene a Cavalry is given to a Sicilian shepherd hired by Giuliano for the Portella della Ginestra's massacre.
Machine Guns
Fiat-Revelli Model 1914/35
Fiat-Revelli M14/35 machine gun is an air-cooled, belt-fed heavy machine gun used during WWII by the Italian Armed Forces. The Giuliano's bandits managed to take one somehow, and used it in various occasions.
