The Pawnbroker
The Pawnbroker was the first fictional account of the Holocaust in American film. Directed by Sidney Lumet (Serpico, Dog Day Afternoon), the film featured Rod Steiger (In the Heat of the Night), Geraldine Fitzgerald, and Brock Peters (To Kill a Mockingbird). A New York pawnbroker and Holocaust victim suffers from survivor’s guilt.
