It is interesting about them two editing just certain pages. If I remember right when MT2008 banned POI, I think he banned certain IP addresses he was using, I don't think Burt's IPs matched. But they are both in Cali. They were on the forums about the same time posting, they may have made replies back to each other. I don't remember. Hopefully the other mods will come to a decision on the RPG issue.--Predator20 09:13, 15 April 2011 (CDT)
- Hi, Tim, I have to present some of my research today (I'm in grad school), so I apologize for being so busy yesterday and today, but quick update:
- (1.) I think I got you approved to post on the forum. Try it now and see if it works.
- (2.) I did used to think that Burt might be PoI re-incarnated, and he certainly sounds like PoI sometimes, but I haven't been able to be sure of this. Being stubborn and argumentative is not a personality trait exclusive to PoI, and Burt hasn't demonstrated some of the other personality traits that made PoI so unlikable (in my opinion, anyway). That being said, PoI was quite technically competent (setting up sock puppet accounts after he got banned), so it's not impossible that he and Burt are the same person. But as Brian told you, their IPs were very, very different.
- (3.) We'll get to the bottom of the Type 69 issue. Promise. :)
- -MT2008 09:26, 15 April 2011 (CDT)
- I'm not sure why you haven't been approved on the forums. Are you using a free e-mail like Yahoo, Gmail? I don't have approval privileges on the forum. So I get "don't have permission" message when viewing your name, despite being a mod. Matt (MT2008) has a little bit more rights. So he may be able to help. But he's dealing with school, so just be patient.
- On another note, Burt didn't start making edits on the wiki until after he was temp banned from the forum, if I remember right (Matt did the banning). I ended up temp banning him on the wiki too for being a smartass. He's gotten better about things, but he still ends up rubbing people the wrong way.--Predator20 10:54, 15 April 2011 (CDT)

Re: Re: Call of Duty World at War
By your definition, what's to stop people from listing every single howitzer, tank cannon, and other heavy artillery piece imaginable on this site? We have to draw the line somewhere. Orca1 9904 08:02, 5 May 2011 (CDT)
- In that case, I guess we should get to work listing every time a Tiger tank shows up with its' 88mm gun in a WW2-themed article or when an Abrams fires its' M256 120mm gun in a modern film. You up for cluttering the pages with that extraneous, unnessicary info? Orca1 9904 08:25, 5 May 2011 (CDT)

Don't bother blanking them. Or marking them. When I delete them, it will only show their contributions and I can double check the ip to make sure I banned it. Talk pages are okay and just revert full pages and we will protect them against further action.--Predator20 08:53, 11 May 2011 (CDT)

On IMDB, I only see that he's directed video games. All the directors credited on the site have either two or more films represented on the site or is also an actor who has used a firearm in a production. --Ben41 01:41, 14 June 2011 (CDT)

Trademark
Though it's not absolutely necessary, for the longest times people thought Muzzelite was the name of a GUN not the cover. And then people started naming Muzzelite as a generic term for other aftermarket bullpup kits, which it is not. Muzzelite IS a tactical aftermarket accessories company that is independent from Ruger. and their most famous contribution to society is a trademarked line of bullpup kits. at the time the TM was just a way to break people from the bad habit of using the Muzzelite as a generic firearm term, that's all. You're overthinking it. This all happened YEARS before you were a member so don't worry about it. MoviePropMaster2008 14:24, 27 June 2011 (CDT)
M8A1
You are correct, your photos are proof that the M8A1 is the base chassis, but I ask where did you get your information? You state that you did research. Did another source correctly identify the tanks? I only ask because the guys at Veluzat themselves erroneously identified the chassis as M48s on the DVD and to me personally. Now you have proven them wrong, but I want to know where else on the net the correct info has been listed. MoviePropMaster2008 01:46, 29 June 2011 (CDT)
- jeez, you send me a message right when I'm fixing the page already..... LOL. I was doing it already :D MoviePropMaster2008 01:48, 29 June 2011 (CDT)
- Though some state that the M8A1 is a derivative of the M41, I wonder how much. The M8A1 has 6 main bogey wheels and four return rollers. The M41 & M42 have only FIVE Main bogey wheels and three return roller. That indicates a completely different frame. Just noting. MoviePropMaster2008 14:55, 29 June 2011 (CDT)

Help needed
Hi. I'm working on a page for the film "Derailed". There was a S&W pistol, what the detective ID'd as a Smith & Wesson Model 5906. However it had those bigger sights, like the one on this image:
It this a very early M5906? I thought I ask you since you visit the site every day, and know a lot about guns. :) Thanks in advance. P.S.: I added an image of a WW2 "thing" onto the talk page of Clive Barker's Jericho. You have any idea what that is? - bozitojugg3rn4ut 09:55, 5 July 2011 (CDT)
- Never mind, I figured out that Smith and Wesson thing... - bozitojugg3rn4ut 14:31, 5 July 2011 (CDT)
- Thanks a lot for the help with that shitty WW2 gun. I thought it will be some kind of mortar or something like that. I think it should not be added to the page, what do you think? I also added the M26 MASS, I found in the manual that it is an "XM-26 semi-auto shotgun", LOL. Just a little trivia: I was really disappointed with F3AR (and I think you were also - at least that's what I've figured out of the talk page), but this game is pretty sick, I bought it in 2008 but haven't played it till now. I played it tru 5 times in the last week. - bozitojugg3rn4ut 06:00, 6 July 2011 (CDT)
D-War
Unless you know for sure with a verifiable source be careful NOT to declare it as a definite fact. The reason why I said that is I recently went by a movie tank farm where they had lightweight Abrahms 'dummies' that ran on some sort of small vehicle for deep background shots. Sure, lots of movies like to CGI duplicate but there are some times when the film wants people interacting with the tanks in the distance. Thanks for the note though. :D MoviePropMaster2008 16:49, 5 July 2011 (CDT)
Re: Ace Combat
That's a good question. I have the PS2 titles in the series myself and have played the demo for AC6, but lack a means to take screenshots that wouldn't look like crap. Ideally, I'd like to see the weapon ports for each aircraft mentioned in the articles (ideally with the gun firing so as to show the viewer where the firing port is via the muzzle flash), but I know that might be a bit excessive with some of the games such as The Unsung War which has something like 16 aircraft that all use the M61 Vulcan cannon. If my ideal suggestion is not possible, then try to get the player characters' signature aircraft (F-14A Tomcat in AC5, F-22A Raptor in AC04, F-15C Eagle in AC Zero, F-16C Fighting Falcon & F-15E Strike Eagle in AC6, etc.). I greatly appreciate your interest in helping to complete these articles, and look forward to seeing your input on them. Orca1 9904 04:07, 6 July 2011 (CDT)
- I would exercise caution with some of the ground vehicle weapons, as that can easily stray into territory not within the scope of the wiki. If you can find a tank or APC with a machine gun or a ZSU-23 AA gun, that's fine, but please avoid things like heavy artillery systems or large-caliber flak guns. There is also a screenshot I would like to see for the AC5 article, but it's extremely difficult to get; namely an image of the player's aircraft being engaged by a FIM-92A Stinger in "Powderkeg" with the Yuktobanian radio chatter that specifically mentions that weapon system by name. Orca1 9904 04:43, 6 July 2011 (CDT)
- The 'tricky' part of the "Powderkeg" shot I mentioned is having that piece of dialogue appear at the same time as you're being engaged by said SAM. Both things happen at random during the mission if I remember correctly, so getting them to happen together so as to create a decent screenshot could be difficult. I also thought of another shot I would like to see for AC Zero; a pic of a Belkan BM-335 bomber firing its defensive M61 Vulcan armament (I've noticed that the BM-335 seems to be the only heavy bomber in the series thus far that has any defensive gun armament; the in-game B-52's & Tu-95's appear to have been 'neutered'). Rank changes
Navy ranks are abbreviated differently. Listing a US Navy Lieutenant as "Lt." is not correct. See the link. [2] --Funkychinaman 14:28, 8 July 2011 (CDT)
- We're not talking about Jessica Biel or Josh Lucas, we're talking about their characters, who are US Navy Lieutenants. If we're going to bother listing their ranks, we might as well do it correctly. And as I said, "Lt." is not shorthand for a US Navy Lieutenant, "LT" is. If you want to write out the whole rank, go ahead. But if you're going to abbreviate it, then do it correctly. You noticed I left non-naval ranks alone. --Funkychinaman 14:44, 8 July 2011 (CDT)
- I thought being correct trumped readability. "Lt." may be short for the *word* "Lieutenant," but we're talking about the specific rank. And it's not just an administrative choice, navy LTs a different grade than Army/AF/MC lieutenants, just as Army/AF/MC Captains are different than Navy/CG Captains. Using the proper abbreviations helps in differentiating them. [3] --Funkychinaman 15:12, 8 July 2011 (CDT)
- "I don't know, if you're trying to educate people there's no point being correct if nobody understands you're correct..." Really? On the website that tracks *46* variants of what most people would just call a "Colt .45?" (And at least thirty variants of what laymen would just call an M16.) If you want to write out the full rank, go ahead, but keep in mind, the abbreviations do exist for a reason. And of course there are no hard feelings, we're resolving this like reasonable adults. As for Stealth, I think it A) REALLY deserved a good video game adaptation, B) felt like a fifth grader's attempt to remake "2001: A Space Odyssey," C) is an absolutely gorgeous, yet absolutely terrible film, like Pearl Harbor, and D) like Pearl Harbor, makes me wonder if the Navy leaves deciding whether or not to assist on a film to a chimp. --Funkychinaman 01:05, 9 July 2011 (CDT)
- It is what it is. If people see a someone in a naval uniform with LT in front of his or her name, and can't figure out it's short of Lieutenant, then I don't know what we can do. If we can educate people, I think we should. (Just be happy there aren't any Rear Admirals here. Explaining RDML and RADM would be a pain.) Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the Ace Combat series. (I haven't had a PS2 in four years, and yet still have my copies of AC04, AC5, and Zero just in case I do get one again.) Considering it's taken them FOUR YEARS to make a console sequel to AC6, I'm willing to make room for a few clones, like a Stealth game. (As long as it's good. The HAWX series is really disappointing.) How desperate was I for another AC game? I actually thought about getting a Wii just so I can play Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces. --Funkychinaman 01:53, 9 July 2011 (CDT)
- Yeah, those UAV missions were just lazy. And that just sums up the entire HAWX franchise. The gameplay is somewhat close to the AC series, but it just lacks polish. The cutscenes in HAWX 1 were some of the worst I've ever seen. BTW, I saw your note to Bunni about the cache issue. I got the same issue two weeks ago, but with a different user. I tried clicking on those same pictures you mentioned, and I'm in as a different, albeit logged out user. If I click back, I'm back in. --Funkychinaman 11:35, 9 July 2011 (CDT)

How to make new pages/articles
Hi there i may wanna create a page for the game "Lead and Gold: Gangs of the Wild West"
My question is how i create new pages ?
Steyr AUG
Those images of soldiers using the gun in the field are not usable for 'gun images'. Sorry. Please remove them. We only allow stand alone images of guns, NOT news or media release photos of them in the field. MoviePropMaster2008 16:19, 11 July 2011 (CDT)
- Doesn't matter if they offer a better view of the weapon. Even up to the big crew served weapons and gun platforms, IMFDB tries to put solo pics up, no pics from field use. Put those type of pics in the discussion page. Other than that, only sterile Gun only pics are allowed as gun photos on the gun pages and movie pages. Thanks. :) MoviePropMaster2008 16:43, 11 July 2011 (CDT)

Good catch - I'm going to see if there's any way to exclude some pages from the cache and force them to update every time. bunni 19:28, 11 July 2011 (CDT)
Jason Lee
I'm opting not to make a page for Stealth's Jason Lee since he's only got one film credit. If there's a need, I'm leaning toward using the IMDB name of Jason Lee (IX). --Ben41 21:58, 11 July 2011 (CDT)
Stealth
The standard format for IMFDB is to start with the smallest weapons first and move towards bigger ones. The page as it is now is really jarring since the GUN PLATFORMS and CREW SERVED weapons are first. That's the opposite of how IMFDB pages have been traditionally. RE: Language
That was just a thought on my part. And to me, if it was one line that's one thing - but two makes it a different case - a pattern. If he's deliberately trying to get pages censored that's not right. You should make a note of that to Ben. StanTheMan 12:09, 14 July 2011 (CDT)
- He's done it again, and now I'm seriously starting to think that either he's intentionally doing it just to be annoying. I've brought this back up with Ben, and also have brought it to attention of Predator20 and JCordell. This has now started to tick me off and I'm starting to see it as a real problem. I want to know what this guy's deal is. StanTheMan 14:37, 17 July 2011 (CDT)
Profanity
The amount of offensive language should be kept at a minimum level in order to maintain the professionalism of the site. The quotes were removed because they were not overly important to the screencap. I don't think I'll be going through and removing all profanity, but I don't want users to ask why we allow profanity on the movie pages and not in discussions. --Ben41 02:35, 15 July 2011 (CDT)
Those comments were made long before the Rules, Standards and Principles were finalized and now it's been stated that swearing should be kept at a minimum. I just removed a (now banned) user's comments due to the profanity. --Ben41 02:41, 15 July 2011 (CDT)

I forgot because I just haven't seen that note in a long time (and when you mentioned it I did a "DOH!!!!") It's a wee bit tough since all those Yugo AK variants are in a vault about 65 miles away from my home (though I live in a major metro area of California, the state government of CA won't allow those types of restricted weapons in major dense population centers, even though the movies are all shot here, but we know how stupid most politicians are.....) I haven't had time to photograph that and many other weapons since I've been working non-stop (gotta grab the work when it happens, since there are LONG times of 'famine' in this biz). I am having an issue that I hope you can help me with (2nd time today!). Do you have any idea how to delete pages? Yes, I asked you earlier but this time is different...
Reason is that I created a page for the Bruni Magnum because it appeared in one of my movies. MPM suggested me to make that page a section of the Colt Python page because it is in fact a blank-firing copy of that revolver. I could not use 'move' and have automatic redirects created because that would mess up the Colt Python page.
Instead, I cut-and-paste my info to an additional entry in the Colt Python page but now I am left with a completely empty page (Bruni Magnum) that has no use but unfortunately this is where people get directed when they type in 'Bruni Magnum'. Sorry for the mess but do you have any suggestions how I cabn fix this. HELP!!! --PeeWee055 09:29, 26 September 2011 (CDT)

First of all, You know waaaaaay more about guns than I do, and I might be off on this one:
The image shows how the bolt (I'm not even sure that's how it is called) locks back after Beckett tosses in the mag and he hits IT to return it to the front and be able to shoot dudes again. What do you think? - bozitojugg3rn4ut 13:03, 12 October 2011 (CDT)
- Yeah, it is possible that he misses that thingy and hits the ACOG instead, but maybe the effort should be noted on the page, you know. Or the fact that the bolt locks back in that strange way after inserting the fresh magazine. - bozitojugg3rn4ut 14:14, 12 October 2011 (CDT)

Weapon Categories Guideline
Hi. Do you know if there is some kind of weapon categories guideline on IMFDB? Like which categories should be (SMGs with\without PDWs, Handguns encompassing Pistols and Revolvers, etc.), in which order (like Handguns first, then SMGs, ending with Fictional weapons or Explosives, etc.). Or is it to how editors prefer at any current moment? Bringing order to the pages would certainly help and trying to be a part of it. --Masterius 08:07, 13 October 2011 (CDT)

copyright
well actually I only started copyrighting the images explicitly after some ugly piracy issues between 2009-2010, but if you were here from the start, all the veteran members already knew that my pics were MY pics :D Putting the copyright all over the place is a recent trend, and I've been trying to over write a lot of the older pics with an explicit copyright but it takes time. Most of the members back in the day knew enough when they saw the quality and that I had uploaded it. They knew better than to over write it. Also when I load someone else's pic as a place holder I usually put a note on it that it's not mine. So, no I did not overlook anything. These image files are OLD, from the early days of IMFDB and it takes a while to over write over 700 original images. But I'll get to it. He is NOT correct though in overwriting the image that he did. :D Whether it is mine or not, the IMFDB rule is NOT to overwrite a superior image with a lesser quality image (whether it be lighting style, clarity or size). So in that respect, he was wrong. The usual procedure is to upload a NEW image, if for some reason a member feels strongly that an existing image doesn't represent the gun well. :) I know you're relatively new (compared to some of the OLD timers of the site hahahaha) so I thought I'd put that out there since it is something we've all done since 2008, but never really explained to anyone new. :D lol. Thanks for the note. :) MoviePropMaster2008 23:22, 18 October 2011 (CDT)

RE: GAU-8
The reason the full length is not linked to as much as the cropped contrast images is that up until 2 days ago the cropped one was the only one on the site. I'm not a great fan of it personally as it is a digitally manipulated version of the full length image, which if you blow them up to full size the full length one is actually much clearer on the detail of the gun itself. Regardless, I'm going to use the image of the gun with the helmet and ammo box for any new pages I put it on, as this is the only image that shows just the physical gun, unobscured by the feeding mechanism, making it more in keeping with the other automatic cannon pictures on the site. I'm going to move the contrast image to the discussion aswell, as I see no reason to use it because even though it is slightly larger, it shows less of the gun and is more blurry and grainy.--commando552 05:06, 20 October 2011 (CDT)
- The only part of a GAU-8/A I have ever seen in a movie or game is the muzzle, so for an ID of a non standard installation anything apart from that is irrelevant to be honest. All the other aircraft cannon pictures on the sight, such as the ones for Vulcan variants, don't have the feed mechanism which is also required for them to fire. With the avenger the drum is needed for the weapon to work, which is part of the reason I put the full length picture on the main page, and is an integral part of the gun. As the weapon is link-less, the rounds are not pulled along on their belt by the feed mechanism, but are actually driven to the gun by the drum which stores the rounds nose towards the centre in a spiral channel, with a grooved rotor in the centre which rotates to move the rounds along the channel. --commando552 05:38, 20 October 2011 (CDT)

Hey Tim. Just a quick question: Are you planning to cap Arkham Asylum as well? I'm playing the game right now, and collecting screenshots to replace those IGN images on the page, but it will take me a few days to finish the game. bozitojugg3rn4ut 04:40, 2 November 2011 (CDT)
- Yeah, I am thinking that they used Joker's pistol as a base for Two Face's one. Maybe it is the same gun with a different texture. The overall shape, slide release and trigger guard all look the same. Looking at the other weapons, it looks like they wanted to avoid copyright issues by combining various guns. Unrelated to this, but is the game good? The PC version will be released soon. I can't decide what to pick, this or Skyrim. - bozitojugg3rn4ut 15:23, 4 November 2011 (CDT)

Arkham City
Yes, Two-Face uses a Milkor grenade launcher in the final Catwoman mission, possibly the same one Penguin used in the Batman campaign. On a related note, I think I should like to clarify that the unknown rifles that Tyger troopers carry in Arkham City are intended to be CAR-15s, instead of a completely fictional rifle. For example, in the comic book tie-ins, there is a scene when a Tyger squad bursts into a building, weapons at the ready. The guns depicted here, while obviously based off those in the game, do not have the inaccurate carry top or exaggerated handgrip. They are much more recognizable as their RL counterparts.
In addition, an unknown AK clone and a bolt-action sniper rifle both appear in unlockable Arkham City concept art. One is entitled "TYGER Sniper" and the other shows Catwoman on the ceiling over a guard's head. Haven't actually unlocked either of these yet, so I can't say I've viewed them up-close, but perhaps you have? Maybe they deserve a section in the B:AC article.
Thanks, --Katangais 18:19, 5 November 2011 (CDT)
Template Articles
Videogames are generally not included because they are just graphical representations (no matter how detailed) of the firearms. The featured articles look best when an actor is pictured actually holding the weapon. Clean up the MW3 discussion page
Hey can you/we clean up the unnecessary crap all over the discussion page for MW3? 1/2 the stuff up there is a bunch of people pretty much going "OMG I LOVE THIS GAME BLA BLA BLA!!!!" Can we get rid of that and keep the legitimate stuff? That triple posting I accidentally did was because my computer can even open 1/2 the page because it's so huge. Thanks --Ranger12 07:43, 10 November 2011 (CST)
- Nah dude the only reason it double posted on your page here is because I hit submit, then cancel, made an edit, then submit again, which conveniently double posted on your wall. And do you realize how unprofessional that page looks like? Seriously, it looks like 1/2 legitimate, 1/2 completely unnecessary garbage. --Ranger12 08:10, 10 November 2011 (CST)

Modern Warfare 3
Impressive work on the page. Keep in mind that your screenshots are too large and take up too much space. I suggest that you should reduce your game resolution to 1280x720 or any resolution close to that as it is HD, but at a smaller file size. - Kenny99 20:39, 11 November 2011 (CST)
- Also, I will combine the MP5K and the MP5 sections together and remove the M240 as I played the game and there was no MP5K or M240.They were just placeholder models in the early beta version of Modern Warfare 3. - Kenny99 10:54, 12 November 2011 (CST)
Fine, but can I just replace the images from the trailers or you should do all of the uploading? - Kenny99 11:06, 13 November 2011 (CST) Well, that's fine with me. But I am just adding/replacing a few screenshots. - Kenny99 21:34, 13 November 2011 (CST)
Team America
Allow me to raise a matter to you since you're the only Administrator that I know. This weekend, I watched the 2004 marionet-animated comedy Team America for the 2nd time since it came out and seen through IMFDB-eyes the guns used were actually quite appropriate and identifiable (see below screenshot).
I am dying to get started on a good IMFDB page for this movie, but since this movie is a bit of an odd-one-out, I raised the question on the IMFDB main page if anybody has strong objections. I get mixed feedback and since I'd hate to see a page that I created eventually getting deleted I am asking your expert opinion as an Administrator.
My point is that even though this is a comedy and the marionettes walk clumsy, the production team actually did take great care to create a believable environment as far as (95% of the) prop guns are concerned. The Production Designer the 35-year veteran Jim Dultz and his team consists of such people as Ramsey Avery (Art Director for e.g. Edge of Darkness and Minority Report) plus Thomas Valentine (who was the Supervising Art Director for Battle: Los Angeles). These guys have a reputation and don't just shop around at the Toys“R”Us toy soldier department, wouldn't you agree?
With many anime and video games rightfully having entries for fantasy weapons derived from existing guns (like e.g. Crysis 2), I feel Team America deserves a well-done IMFDB page telling fact from fiction. I hope that in the light of above info, you can agree with me and I am looking forward to hear your thoughts on this matter. Thanks for your time, --PeeWee055 06:04, 14 November 2011 (CST)
RE: two-tone P228
I switched it back because that two-tone P228 is a factory version which is identical to the ones seen in 24 and other movies. Whereas the picture posted by Commando is a regular blued P228 which had only its slide nickeled - it lacks the nickel-plated controls. I agree that the image quality is a little better, but I prefer something that more closely matches the factory two-tone 228s. -MT2008 10:16, 16 November 2011 (CST)
- BTW, I don't have a super-strong preference for this image; if you want to revert it back, I understand. I just think that it's preferable to have a picture which is a closer match to what we see in movies. -MT2008 16:34, 16 November 2011 (CST)
9-Bang: Modern Warfare 3
Can you add back some of my 9-bang screenshots as there is more lighting in them? - Kenny99 19:40, 16 November 2011 (CST)
- Actually, two megabytes is the site's maximum file size, but one megabyte is the official maximum file size. This means that the site can handle having two megabyte images, but the rules make one megabyte the maximum file size. - Kenny99 12:08, 20 November 2011 (CST)
Foreign TV series
Hi Evil Tim, may I ask if imfdb accepts foreign TV series, as I came to recently, as it is not mention on the rules, principles and standards. Anyway, I saw this Taiwanese TV series filmed by Formosa TV, on aired last year, and its story is about teenage boys entering ROC army boot camps so there is definitely several firearms to write about. I asked Funkychinaman about it and he redirected me here. So is it possible?--S9771773G 00:12, 24 November 2011 (CST)
- If I may interject, the show appears to meet all the qualifications for a page except that it is not on IMDb. It does have its own page on its network website though and from what I can tell, with the few sources I can find in English, it ran for two series/seasons, with 43 episodes. I cross-referenced a few of the actors in it, and it just appears to IMDb is unaware of the series. He just needs the mods to sign off on exempting it from the IMDb rule. --Funkychinaman 00:37, 24 November 2011 (CST)

MGS HD Collection
- Seeing as you did such an awesome job on the MGS4 page, are you going to be capping 2,3 and Peacewalker using the MGS HD collection? The pages (for 2 and 3 especially) as they stand are a bit underwhelming, plus, the games look damn fine in 1080 (in my opinion better than some games today, though that has more to do with the art direction and animation). If not, I'll see about getting some footage from ChipCheezum's LPs of the games. -protoAuthor 19:11, 24 November 2011 (CST)

Never mind. I will post first-person images if you want it that way. :| - Kenny99 17:50, 27 November 2011 (CST)
- I finished posting screenshots for some of the sections. Here are the sections that need screenshots: M1911, M14, M40A3, Remington Model 700P, Barret M82A1, RPD, and some of the weapons in the "Explosives" section. I will try to finish tomorrow. - Kenny99 21:07, 27 November 2011 (CST)
Um, would it be better to have Milkovich's images of the mounted machine guns on the Abrams tank? Milkovich's screenshots offered closer detail of the machine guns. Yours barely have any noticeable or distinguishing features that can show how the machine guns are Browning M2s and M240Ds. - Kenny99 23:59, 27 November 2011 (CST)

Concerning BF3 and such
Why don't YOU do less of that! I'm sick and tried (literally!), I stay up all night for days screen-capping the perfect shots, organizing, reformatting, uploading, and fixing descriptions and adding captions for BF3. I'm capping the ENTIRE game, so why don't you throw ME a freaking bone! I've let the other pages you've taken over with your ways slide because I'm a nice guy and didn't want to step on your toes anymore. And don't think just because you wrote some stuff on the page it makes it yours, I've wrote and rewrote stuff on your pages and it doesn't make them mine.
I was gonna buy SS3:BFE (if I ever get money...) and cap it simply because I wanted to contribute to the site, but only hours after I did a big edit you magically had the game and you took the page. I swear you are just watching what pages I'm working on and then just swoop in and takeover with your anal 400px weapon image sizes. Just because you are a Amin and have money doesn't make you God of the internets. I don't care if you want to ban me or whatever, have fun fixing up and bring the WHOLE site up to par all by yourself, and while your at it, since your an Amin, you should rename the site too "Evil Tim's IMFDB"... - Mr. Wolf 19:58, 9 December 2011 (CST)
M16 misinformation (Apocalypse Now)
I corrected many false statements about the M16 seen on the "Apocalypse Now" page. The corrections are as follows: 1) The M16 was mainly used by the USAF, but also by the US Navy during Vietnam. 2) M16s remained in USAF armories well after the M16A1 was adopted. 3) Late model M16s do indeed have a full-fence lower; they are not necessarily "franken-guns." Why do you insist on having pictures of commercial Colt Government Models as erroneous examples of M1911s and M1911A1s (e.g. File:M1911vs.M1911A1.jpg as well as other images on the "M1911 pistol series" page)?
Nearly every one of the images in the M1911 and M1911A1 sections of the "M1911 pistol series" page is laughably wrong. I've already mentioned the problem with File:M1911vs.M1911A1.jpg, and here are the problems with the rest of the pictures:
• File:COLTM1911_1913.jpg - labeled as an "Original Colt M1911", when it is actually a Colt Government Model.
• File:Colt1911A1PreWar.jpg - labeled as a "Pre-War Colt M1911A1 Pistol Commercial" when in fact there is no such thing as a commercial Colt M1911A1. It is actually a Colt Government Model, and it is not even pre-war, evidenced by the full-shelf thumb safety (rather than half-shelf), serrated slide stop (rather than checkered), and flat hammer (rather than wide-spur).
• File:NickelM1911A1.jpg - labeled as "Commercial Satin Nickel M1911A1 Pistol - .45 ACP. Manufactured on license by Remington Rand". This is so full of errors that I wonder if it is a joke. First of all, there is of course no such thing as a commercial M1911A1. Second of all, there is no such thing as a commercial Remington Rand gun of any type. They are not even a gun company, they are a typewriter company. As far as guns go, the only thing they ever made is the M1911A1 (all M1911A1s are military, not commercial, by definition). That so-called "satin nickel" finish is simply the result of some guy having it nickel plated; Remington Rand certainly didn't do it.
• NickelM1911.jpg - labeled as "Colt M1911A1 Pistol that was bright nickel plated by the owner (with Pearl grips) - .45 ACP". This one might be even more ridiculous than the Remington Rand picture. It isn't even a Colt. That is not a Colt serial number for one thing, nor did Colt ever mark a gun "M1911" like that, especially not on an M1911A1-style frame. But even more obvious than the markings, the lines of that abomination of a pistol are nothing like any Colt ever made. That gun is a hack job; I've seen airsoft pistols with better lines than that. Was the machinist drunk? Look at the big slanted section on the bottom of the mainspring housing. Look at that screwy front strap with a completely wrong radius that results in a big gap between where the grip ends and the radius starts. Look at those screwed up frame relief cuts behind the trigger. How about the oversized mainspring housing retaining pin; that weird hammer shape that Colt never used; the almost pointed grip-safety tang; that non-standard trigger pad length (somewhere between a short A1 trigger and a long pre-A1 trigger); and the totally wrong shape to the cutout area of the recoil spring plug housing section of the slide.
It is comically ironic that you deem yourself qualified to revert images that were updated by someone who knows far more about the subject than you do. --MaximRecoil 18:57, 21 December 2011 (CST)
MaximRecoil
What he is saying is true to a point. Colt may have never called the Government Model a M1911 or M1911A1, but all they are is the Commercial version of them. (I'm talking pre-war models) Some of the markings might vary and sometimes the finish, but they are really no different. There were cases where Commercial or Government Models were re-stamped M1911A1 because of lack of supply.--Predator20 09:41, 22 December 2011 (CST)
- He's nit-picking is all it really is. We had tried to point out to others (MPM has said it also) we are not a gun encyclopedia. --Predator20 09:57, 22 December 2011 (CST)
- I'll do it..fuck. --Predator20 10:44, 22 December 2011 (CST)
No problem
Thank YOU for deleting it. That last guy not only uploaded a photo, he made revisions. It made it all the more satisfying to see it go. --Funkychinaman 01:20, 23 December 2011 (CST)
- I would've never brought it up except I saw that people were starting to rename it on pages. It'd be one thing if it were two distinct models, like how we make a point to say Beretta 92F instead of M9, but I don't know if there would be any differences here. --Funkychinaman 01:42, 23 December 2011 (CST)
Mog398
Not sure why you banned Mog398 because the edits seemed to be just removing irreverent comments and not deleted pertinent information. In the future, I would recommend issuing a warning prior to a ban. --Ben41 03:16, 23 December 2011 (CST)
It would have been helpful to put that the user's discussion page before putting the ban in place. Still, this user doesn't seem to have a history of destroying other people's work or adding irrelevant comments. I'll be watching the user's future edits and do the ban myself if there's further vandalism. --Ben41 03:25, 23 December 2011 (CST)
M1911
Thanks a lot. As you know, I've repeatedly said that there will always be someone more knowledgeable than I am about a lineage of guns. I'm NOT an M1911 expert. I am sure there are M1911 fanatics out there who have read every book on the subject. I describe the guns as best I can. I look at them, look at the markings and then photograph them and post them. My contribution to IMFDB has always been (a) getting movie gun inventory pieces to begin with and (b) taking good pics of them and (c) taking notes as to what I photographed. I freely note that I only repeat what is tagged on the gun. Sometimes, as MT2008 and other have pointed out, even movie armorers mislabel their guns (MT2008 found an error in the Die Hard Beretta, but we'll just correct it here and not point it out to the movie's armorer ;) ) You were absolutely right. He has no right to OVERWRITE an official IMFDB photo of a MOVIE GUN. If anything we correct the description, but we don't destroy the image. Too bad, an M1911 expert is always good to have, but his attitude is offensive. He cops an elitist attitude when he's a noob. After all we're NOT a gun encyclopedia, we're an chronicle of guns in MEDIA. Those guns are real, they've been used in film (some of them are actually museum pieces, the mint condition ones) and I DID take detailed notes as to what they were supposed to be, perhaps the tags had bad descriptions?) He doesn't have to be an ass about it. He may have really in depth knowledge about M1911s but he has an aggressive Trekkie style fanboy hostility towards ANY error as he sees it. He needs to ditch the attitude and learn that many others on IMFDB have toiled much longer and harder over the years than he has, and being condescending here just doesn't cut it. Thanks for the heads up.
On another note: This reminds me to get cracking on the task of updating some of our pics. Eagle eyed members (like Commando552) have pointed out that some of our pics are of 'built up' movie guns which are mixed and matched uppers and lowers (or in the case of pistols, slides and frames). Hahahaha, I never thought in my life that a built up gun would receive so much visual scrutiny years after the fact. :)

I didn't know you were DONGS
aka "Dongs the Tyrant!" ;) as POI liked to call you. Why the formerly phallic name? I see now why you changed to Evil Tim... LOL. MoviePropMaster2008
Uploads
Where do I add the Category:Screenshot when I upload the screenshots? In the main page of the game? And yes, it is Conflict: Desert Storm. --RaNgeR 06:21, 24 December 2011 (CST)
No problem, thank you. --RaNgeR 06:24, 24 December 2011 (CST)
Gun Brand Pages
Yo. So now that at least 2 admins have contributed to the new "Gun Brand Pages" is it safe to say the idea is sticking? I want to keep working on these but I dont want to spend all this time just to have them deleted. I'm still new to this site so whats the procedure for getting this approved by the powers that be? Kampfpistole
Thanks for your remarks, they make perfect sense. I did not check my e-mail in the last few minutes so I was totally unaware that somebody else (you) was working on the same page. This way we can keep eachother busy, right? My apologies for driving you crazy!
Reason that I wanted to rename 'Walther Kampfpistole' to a more generic 'Kampfpistole' is that today I read an about the history of this gun. Originally a flare pistol ("Heeresmodell 1934"), from 1943 onwards it was produced by both Walther and Erma as ‘Kamppistole’ (no further numeric nomination) having a big 'Z' on the side indicating that it had 'Zuege' (German for grooves) so that small explosive charges could be fired more accurately. The article did not indicate an original designing manufacturer so I figured removing ‘Walther’ would be the right thing to do. If you say that Walther is indeed the company where it all started, then I can only agree to keep matters as they are.
As for the LP-42, I see what you mean. Problem is that ‘Kampfpistole’ is actually a very generic name simply meaning ‘battle pistol’ (just like ‘assault rifle’ may apply to AK-47 and M16 alike). In this case, both guns are correctly referred to as ‘Kampfpistole’ but they are of completely different design. As such, I would suggest to remove the ‘Kampfpistole Z’ image from the LP-42 page, leave matters as they are and not merge, wouldn’t you agree?
By the way, what do you mean by “please don't edit war, it doesn't help”? I am not aware I have been changing anything else today than the Kampfpistole. Take care, let me know what you think and Merry Christmas, --PeeWee055 10:36, 24 December 2011 (CST)
- Good to see your remarks, be my guest to make changes; I will stay away from the subject for a few days hahaha Not sure of you are aware, but 'Leuchtpistole' is yet another generic nomination. It's German for 'Flare Pistol' so I think it would not be correct to put all 'Leuchtpistols' on one page, not in the least because the designs are very different. Take care, --PeeWee055 10:58, 24 December 2011 (CST)
