Page Making

Two problems. You need to go on IMDb and find the correct title, and spell the title properly when you make a page. And two, actor pages do not require you to add JUST character and movies, the point of the pages is to list the guns the actor has used. IMDb already lists all the movies actors are in, so we don't (http://www.imfdb.org/index.php?title=User_talk:Ben41&action=editand won't) have to. - Gunmaster45

Band of Brothers

Thanks for inserting information onto the page such as characters, situations, episodes, etc. It looks much more cleaned up now! Speakeasy804 19:45, 11 September 2009 (UTC)

U571

Thanks for the screencaps. Just a reminder. Be sure to identify who is on screen and what they are doing in the shot. Also identify which actors used which guns. That is really important information for the individual actor's pages. MoviePropMaster2008 06:31, 12 September 2009 (UTC)

Excellent! Great work! Thanks! MoviePropMaster2008 08:35, 12 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi

Hey, Ben,

Great work on all the screencaps and contributions you've so far, but I must insist that you try to follow format:

  • (1.) Always include gun pictures along with the screencaps from the movie.
  • (2.) Always make sure you link to the gun pages.

If you want to save time, you can just go to a page for another movie in which the same gun appears, and copy and paste the code from that page to save time. If I'm doing a page for a movie that has a SIG-Sauer P226, for example, I will just go to a page that has the same gun (like Air Force One), copy the entry, and then change the code as needed. It's a good habit to get into, and it's important for this site's completeness and cohesion.

Thanks, and again, great work so far. -MT2008 19:36, 2 October 2009 (UTC)

Thanks I'll try.

Thanks for the input, I'll try and include the gun pictures as well.

Hey Ben

I was wondering if i could redo your page for Rules of Engagement. I dont want to step on any toes, but with your permission, I'll make it look real pretty. :) -Winchester

If you want redo the descriptions, that's fine. I just pretty much did the screen caps. Ben41 14 Oct 2009

Your screencaps are too big

Gorgeous work on the Dark Knight Blu-ray pics .... BUT ... 1925 pixels across?!?!?! 925KB sized files?!?!?!?! These MUST be shrunk down in that the original size won't be looked at full resolution anyway and they are taking up way too much space. Have you noticed how long it takes for these images to be loaded when clicking on the page? I know that some of our veteran members (and mods) sometimes upload gigantic images, but I think yours are now the biggest on the site. Please make them smaller to allow quick loading of your page. Thanks. MoviePropMaster2008 14:08, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

I'll make sure the rest of the pics I'll upload are smaller in size, but I think the reason it's still loading slow is because the majority of the pics are still PNG's. I'm trying to replace them, but there's a lot of pictures. --Ben41 03:38, 4 November 2009 (UTC)

Robocop

Hey, great job at improving the screencaps on the Robocop page. They look great now! -Gunman69 08:10, 6 November 2009 (UTC)

Thanks, still a work in progress, but I really wanted to up the quality of the pics. --Ben41 08:29, 6 November 2009 (UTC)

New Heat screencaps

Were those taken from a Blu-ray? --Predator20 15:53, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

No, these caps are from the Special Edition DVD. --Ben41 01:01, 19 November 2009 (UTC)

Ok, did you mess with the color? The reason I ask is the new pic you uploaded of DeNiro seems to have more grain in the pic.

A quick one I took

It's not the same exact frame but close. My DVD is the '05 Two-Disc Special Edition. Also when someone sends you a message on your talk page, you reply back on theirs. --Predator20 02:53, 19 November 2009 (UTC)

I use the VLC too. I never tried saving them to PNG first then the JPEG. I may try that. Also I uploaded a new version of my cap. It's the same frame now. The first one I took was a little bit after. Some of the shots you took look better than others. The shot of Pacino and Studi in elevator looks great, more color.--Predator20 03:25, 19 November 2009 (UTC)

The Unit

Please tell me you're going to replace all of the older pics with your newer more awesome pics. That will motivate me to get more screen used guns for the page. :) MoviePropMaster2008 07:42, 22 November 2009 (UTC)

.PNG Images

I have always used .PNGs in lieu of .Jpegs because, while they are bigger, they are of superior quality, especially when it comes to thumbnails. Therefore, identifying guns is easier as the images are clearer. Since the rules, standards and principles insists on space conserving .jpeg images, the Carlito's way page will probably be the last one I do using .PNGs. I decided this yesterday before you sent me this and just didn't think it was worth announcing, and the only reason the Carlito's Way images are .PNGs is because I was halfway done with doing them all when I picked up my work yesterday. Needless to say I'll conform to the rules this time, so long as the quality of the screencaps doesn't suffer too much. --Yournamehere 22:50, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

The Problem with the Pirates pages

Thanks for asking ahead of time :) But I hate those pages. There is little we can identify other than 'flintlock pistol, 'flintlock musket', 'flintlock blunderbuss', etc. It's crap. We can offer no other information other than what is completely obvious to the audience. Gee. Jack Sparrow uses a flintlock pistol. So what? They didn't need US to tell them that. And if we cannot identify what make, model of pistol (which is hard since so many are custom), then it is a complete waste of IMFDB server space to have the page. I'm going to go on a deletion spree for all the lame pages with no screencaps on them. It's a part of the rules and standards, that bad pages are NOT better than no pages at all. Lame pages, especially lots of them, makes us look bad. Good thing you're trying to fix a bunch of the bad existing pages. I wish more members did that rather than create endless NEW pages that are lame. MoviePropMaster2008 02:45, 12 December 2009 (UTC)

Aliens

I wasn't sure if you were going to be adding anymore pics to the page. I added 3 screencaps, I have a few others that can be added too if you're finshed. I had already capped the film the same time I uploaded the behind the scenes images. Which was at the end of Nov. but I didn't get off my ass and upload them so you beat me to it. Which is no big deal.--Predator20 16:44, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

Stargate

I've noticed that the screencaps that you upload are much brighter/clearer than mine -are you using Blu Ray? --AdAstra2009 05:22, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

The Interpreter

Error creating thumbnail: File missing
Henry US Survival .22 LR with M68 Aimpoint red dot scope

The rifle you see in this picture is the exact same one that was used in The Interpreter. I got the picture from the web site of Weapons Specialists, Ltd. in New York, which is the company that supplied the weapons to the production. So it's a safe bet that this exact gun is the one from the movie. You can see it's the same configuration and everything. This same gun was also used in Lord of War (another movie for which Weapons Specialists supplied guns).

Also, the AK rifle in the movie is an AK-47, not an AKM (and most likely, it's a converted Poly Tech Legend). -MT2008 21:22, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

White Hunter Black Heart

I'm into double rifles. Hope you weren't offended by my post on the discussion page, but it's fairly common for folks to mistake a double rifle for a double shotgun.I used to until a few years ago whne I set out to educate myself.Unfortunately it's all book learning. Personally I would love to own a double rifle - even a German double. But the German rifles start at $10,000 and go up to $20,000. The British doubles start at approximately $70,000 and go as high as $250,000. *Sigh*

I have the soul of a snob and the bank account of a working class joe. Oh well. The page looks good by the way.--Jcordell 06:38, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

Last Samurai

WOW! Great work on the replacement screenshots!!!!!! are those Blu-ray? Stunning! Now I need to secretly ask you to fix some of the popular (but poorly screencapped) pages ;) nudge nudge wink wink ..... MoviePropMaster2008 07:41, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

BTW, per IMFDB rules, you can replace existing screenshots with your much superior widescreenshots. Some of the pages you've worked on, you seem hesitant to replace the crappier pics. By ALL MEANS replace the crappier pics! Great screenshots are a wonder to behold. Like Eraser, i hope you can replace the full screen caps. No one can complain. The rules say that Widescreen are preferable to fullscreen. :) Also, do you check the forum? I was hoping to PM you there. Send me a PM there so I can reply to it. :) MoviePropMaster2008 02:56, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Extreme Prejudice

Thanks for redoing those caps. Gunmaster45 uploaded them for me before I knew I how to do them myself. Also I had figured Atwater's pistol was a Smith & Wesson 39, not a Commander. But I couldn't tell enough from my cap. Since you redid it, it's clear. I really need to start messing with the colors on the VLC payer like you talked about. I pretty sure there is only one dvd version of Extreme Prejudice. Also there is an M60 used by the cartel in the final shootout that I missed. I think they are killed by Atwater. --Predator20 16:22, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Burn Notice

Your Burn Notice stuff is looking fantastic! Great screen caps and information, keep it up! --ManiacallyChallenged

Yeah, you've really filled out the page. It was a mess before you started working on it, but now it looks a lot better. I was actually planning to do some work on it for a while, but your screencaps are much higher-quality than mine, and so far, it's coming out great anyway. -MT2008 19:17, 6 February 2010 (UTC)

Hi and thanx...

Thanks for your comments, I appreciate it and from now on will do screencaps with VLC... :) But if you're referring to the Universal Soldier: Regeneration screencaps, I am not the one responsible for those ones... I'm just now gonna upload my screencaps and remove those ols trailer caps... Warejaws 13:21, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

You forgot, so I added it.

HD: You're gonna get shot up here.

MM: Well you're gonna get smashed down there!

HD: Hey man I'd rather get smashed than shot.

MM: Not me!

Another one of my favorites, not sure if it would work on the main page.--Predator20 05:04, 14 February 2010 (UTC)

Hi, you need to categorize your pic uploads

Great job, but when you upload screenshots, you need to put in the Category in double brackets and then put in 'screenshots'. Check out how other screenshots are 'categorized'. Thanks. MoviePropMaster2008 08:28, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

RE Screencaps

Yeah the program I have been using is not the best, and I could not change aspect ratio settings for some reason. I just downloaded the VLC player that you wrote about on your main page. I will try using it and if it works out fine then Ill probably go back and rescreencap pages Ive don in wide screen. --Mauser 21:28, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

Don't change the Categorization of the Batman movies

Those were done so that the movies will appear in the order they were made. Thanks. MoviePropMaster2008 05:48, 8 March 2010 (UTC)

I checked the page edit history. You were the one who changed the "Category: Movie | Batman 2" etc to just "Category:Movie". Don't do that. the Batman 2,3,4, etc. was done intentionally so that the titles sorted by their cinematic order, not by pure alphabetical order. We did the same thing to the blade Series of movies. Done purely by alphabetical sorting, Blade Trinity would be listed AHEAD of the first Blade movie rather than third. Hope that helps, but these specific page edits were done for a specific reason. thanks for your cooperation. :) MoviePropMaster2008 10:00, 8 March 2010 (UTC)

Marked for Death

I'm glad to see someone is doing a page for this movie!

That being said, Hatcher's 1911 in the movie is not an SVI (I don't think those even existed when the movie was made). We had a topic about this in the forum, but the 1911 in the movie is a Federal Ordnance PSP-07. It's mentioned in the credits for the movie. Check out the forum topic here:

http://www.imfdb.org/forum/showthread.php?t=853

Also, the H&K automatic weapon used by Hatcher is not an HK53 (in fact, it's not even a .223-caliber weapon, if you look at the magazine). It is called the "HK51K", and it's a custom G3 conversion done by Bill Fleming, a Class III manufacturer.

Enhanced image request

Could you enhance this image from Dirty Harry. The reason I ask is to better see the magnum markings. This one guy keeps changing it to a Model 57 a 41 magnum. It looks like it reads 44 magnum on the barrel. But an enhanced image would make it read better. --Predator20 19:22, 10 March 2010 (UTC)

The Pacific

So, where did you get access to those high resolution screencaps?--189.34.128.142 19:28, 15 March 2010 (UTC)

The trailers are available on Youtube HD. --Ben41 22:53, 15 March 2010 (UTC)

The Eiger Sanction

I'v made a couple changes. Hemlock is actually using a Smith & Wesson Model 40 and not a Model 49 Bodyguard. Also the henchman is using hwat appears to be a snubby Smith & Wesson Model 10 instead of the Smith & Wesson Model 15 snubbie. If you look closely at the screencap you will notice no adjustable sights. The revolver appears to have fixed or duty sights which would make it the Model 10. Also I went ahead and listed the weapons used by Hemlock on Clint Eastwood 's page. And also showed on the respective firearms pages. But nevertheless it's good work. --Jcordell 00:49, 16 March 2010 (UTC)

Great work on Waterworld

I hope you finish the page. :) There are many dressed up guns in that movie. Alas, most of the weapons were changed back after the movie was over, but I can see what I can get from Syd Stembridge regarding what guns still exist that appeared in that movie. Thanks MoviePropMaster2008 01:12, 17 March 2010 (UTC)

I actually created disambiguation pages for CSI and Delta Force to make page navigation easier. I will try to make as many such pages I can, since unlike Wikipedia, page navigation needs a lot of improvement because sometimes even if we type the proper page name in the search box, we get the result not found.--SB2296 10:41, 8 April 2010 (UTC)

Re: 24 - Season 5

I'm still working on 24 - Season 5. Unlike most users I don't submit or save my work until it's completely done but I'll just save the first 8 episodes now that your asking. I've been stuck on Kalashnikov variants in the first 4 episodes that's why i haven't finished yet. --HKFan 14:02, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

Re: Actor's Pages

Thanks for the heads up, Ben. I agree that the pages look much better in the table format, but I've seen several different examples on different pages in terms of what column is which, so I figured I'd leave them in the basic format. However, it seems that now we've reached a more streamlined pattern (such as on the page you alerted me to), so I'll be sure to follow that from then on. On a side note, all of your pages look great, the screencaps are very sharp! Nice work! --Speakeasy804 00:45, 20 April 2010 (UTC)

On the A Perfect Getaway page it would hard to write what's going on without spoiling anything. GM45 came up with this on the Se7en page and I have used it on several pages.--Predator20 22:55, 20 April 2010 (UTC)

New pages

Hey, Ben41! :) You're an awesome screencapper and page fixer, but, please, don't create multiple new pages with no screen caps. At least have some of the graphics ready to roll BEFORE the page is rolled out. Creating new pages with no screenshots or graphics inspires other (less capable page makers) to create scads of new empty pages with only gun listings. Thanks. MoviePropMaster2008 00:42, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

BTW I have 100% confidence that you will populate the page with great caps, but the worry is that others will do the first part and not the second part. thanks.

We Were Soldiers

I love your HD screencaps. And I know that you have the discipline to put in an appropriate number of screencaps. Heck you can replace even the ones I put in. LOL. It's all about the quality of the pics and the page. I'm just trying to get rid of the full screen caps which I dislike. Anyway, I know you're busy so I started working on the page - it being one of the most VIEWED pages on IMFDB. Did you notice I added more SCREEN USED hero guns to the page? ;) I can probably get more in the future when I have time. I just have to check with Mike Papac as to what guns were used on the production (but that takes time and checking records, etc.). MoviePropMaster2008 00:54, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the help on WWS

Your screencaps look awesome. A little favor though. We're trying to keep the screencaps from between 7-10 per section. I was going to cull the XM16 page, but since you did an awesome job of replacing the full screen shots, I was hoping you would do the honors. A big criticism of the page when it was done earlier was the overuse of screenshots (the XM16 page had 33 screencaps at one point). Thanks again for your great work on the page. MoviePropMaster2008 06:33, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

User: 99.12.124.133

RE: Thanks for the comments

Sure, I'll delete them when you start.--Alienqueen11 02:37, 9 May 2010 (UTC)

Virtuosity

Hey, Ben, good work on Virtuosity, but I have a question. Do you have screenshots of the following characters/weapons from the movie:

  • Denzel Washington gets an H&K USP from a transport guard and uses it later in the movie.
  • A bunch of the police officers in the movie also use the Beretta 92F, especially at the club.
  • One of the terrorists in the flashback sequence is armed with an M16-type rifle, I think an M16A1 with A2-style hand guards (can't tell).

If you don't mind grabbing these screencaps, I'd appreciate it. It would complete the page. Gracias. -MT2008 16:22, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

Thanks! Also, I think the subguns used in the movie may be Walther MPL or MPK, not Franchi LF-57s (I started a discussion about it). -MT2008 16:33, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

Some Last of the Mohicans guns

Hey there. Glad to see how much work you've done on the page. :) I had some pics of some of the background muskets (used by civilians and indians) that were 'rescued' from the production by one of the gunsmiths I knew who worked on the picture. As you know, the vast majority of the guns were destroyed during the filming (the stuntmen pretty much used their muskets as clubs in most of the fight scenes) and over 400 Brown Bess muskets were destroyed. I have a pic of two background guns. Is there any screenshot which may have these in them? I know they were for background people. One is a modern repro of a common commercial flintlock firearm of the time period, the other is known as a trade gun, i.e. a lesser quality flintlock that had less parts and craftsmanship, developed specifically for trade with the Indians (i.e. they let the 'locals' get the more cheaply made muskets). Anyway, just wondering if you thought we should add this to your excellent page.

Actually those were real firing muskets (modern replicas) of civilian muskets, so they were issued to the Colonists volunteers to represent 'private purchase' weapons of the civilians. The Trade muskets were issued to allied Indians to the British Army as they were the 18th century equivalent of 'lend lease' to friendly Indian tribes. They were indeed fired. All non-firing guns were rubber. The reason why so many guns were destroyed was that after 2 weeks of filming a lot of the actors and stuntmen and background extras were really banging on each other with the guns as clubs during the many days of 'hand to hand fighting' filming. I suspect the filmmakers expected this since the production purchased the muskets, they didn't rent the majority of them, except for select hero guns. Thanks. So the info on the movie page isn't quite right. :) MoviePropMaster2008 19:05, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
