The Good Shepherd
|
The Good Shepherd is a 2006 spy drama directed by Robert De Niro and starring Matt Damon as CIA officer Edward Wilson. Loosely based on actual events and the life of real American intelligence operative James Jesus Angleton, the film follows Wilson from his college days at Yale to his participation in the birth of counter-intelligence operations within the Central Intelligence Agency.
Edward Wilson is an ambitious literature student at the elite Yale University. In 1939, he joins the Skull and Bones Society, a secret fraternity that recruits potential leaders for U.S. politics. Wilson quickly stands out for his unwavering belief in American values, his impeccable resume, and his exceedingly sharp mind. Only a short time later, the young idealist is recruited by the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), an intelligence agency founded during World War II and considered the forerunner of the CIA.
The cast also includes Timothy Hutton, Tammy Blanchard, and Michael Gambon.
