Behind Enemy Lines (2001)

Behind Enemy Lines is a 2001 action film that stars Owen Wilson as a US Navy radar intercept officer who must evade enemy forces after his F/A-18 Hornet is shot down over Bosnia. Gene Hackman co-stars as the US Navy Admiral who leads the rescue mission to retrieve his downed officer (an interesting bit of trivia: Hackman portrayed a downed pilot behind enemy lines in the Vietnam War film BAT*21). The film would help launch a series of similarly themed DTV films: Behind Enemy Lines II: Axis of Evil, Behind Enemy Lines: Colombia and Seal Team 8: Behind Enemy Lines.

The following weapons were used in the film Behind Enemy Lines:

Handguns

Beretta 92SB

Both Lieutenant Jeremy Stackhouse (Gabriel Macht) and LT Chris Burnett (Owen Wilson) carry Beretta 92SB handguns as their sidearms. When the two of them first eject over Bosnia after their F/A-18F Super Hornet is shot down, Stackhouse is discovered by the Serbs. They take his weapon and question him. After that, a Serb sniper named Sasha (Vladimir Mashkov) is seen taking Stackhouse's Beretta. Sasha later tries to use the Beretta to shoot at Burnett when he is discovered. Burnett later uses his own Beretta 92SB to shoot at Sasha near the end of the film. This model of the Beretta won the Air Force trials, but is not accurately portrayed as used in the film due to it. Burnett being a Navy pilot, would rather have been issued the SIG-Sauer M11 (the US military designation for the SIG-Sauer P228). Note how it has a rounded trigger guard front. The later models such as the 92F and 92FS would incorporate the curved trigger guard later on.

Beretta 92FS

In addition to the Beretta 92SB's mentioned above, a few Beretta 92FS pistols can also be seen, most notably when the Marines are gearing up for the rescue mission aboard the Carl Vinson.

CZ 75B

The Serbians use CZ 75B handguns as their sidearms. It is most notably seen when Sasha (Vladimir Mashkov) uses his to fire at Burnett when he is first discovered by the Serbs. He also uses it later on to detonate an unexploded landmine. Burnett also takes this gun from Sasha to protect himself while getting the pictures from the ejected seat.

CZ 52

In the scene were LT Burnett enters the mall that the Serbian troops are attacking, he enters an area where several Bosniaks are hiding, one of them questions him while holding a CZ 52 up to his chest before the area is hit by a round fired by a Serbian tank.

Sniper Rifles

SIG-Sauer SSG 3000

Throughout the film, Sasha can be seen carrying a SIG-Sauer SSG 3000 sniper rifle with a Harris bipod as his main weapon, firing on Burnett with it several times as he pursues him across Bosnia.

CZ 700 Sniper Rifle

At the end of the film when Burnett is being rescued by the U.S. Marines, A Serb sniper with a heavily camouflaged CZ 700 sniper rifle attempts to shoot Burnett while he's running back to the helicopters, but before he can fire, he is taken out by a Marine sniper. The movie was made in Slovakia and they used the weapons that are in that country, except for a few possibly Yugo AK's for the Serbs.

Remington 700PSS

The Remington 700PSS sniper rifle also appears in the film carried by U.S Marines (the rifle is probably meant as a substitute for the M40 sniper rifle, the one actually used by the USMC) One of the French Special Forces Troop in the Savior Six helicopter can be seen holding what appears to be a Remington as well. Serb soldiers in several scenes also carry the sniper rifle.

SVD Dragunov

Another Weapon of the Serbs is the SVD Dragunov Sniper Rifle. It is briefly seen in the hands of several of the troops chasing Burnett into the graves, and is used by a sniper during the climax of the film.

Submachine Guns

Heckler & Koch MP5A3

Several of the Serbian soldiers seen throughout the film can be seen carrying Heckler & Koch MP5A3's. These weapons can also be seen in the hands of French Special Forces soldiers and US Marines during the rescue mission, with Navy trigger groups.

Assault Rifles/Carbines

AK-47

While hunting for Burnett, at least one Serbian soldier can be seen carrying an AK-47 rifle. Several can also be seen in the opening scene when the Serbian solders were planting trees on the graves.

Zastava M70AB2

During flashbacks to the ethnic cleansing scene that took place at the beginning of the film, several Serbian soldiers can be seen using Zastava M70AB2 assault rifles to slaughter civilians that would fill the mass grave Burnett and Stackhouse are later shot down for discovering. The M70 is the Yugoslav AKM copy and differs primarily in that it has a folding sight for launching grenades in front of the gas tube, which is clearly visible in the screencap below. The B1 is fixed stock and the B2 is folding stock.

AKM

Many of the Serb soldiers can be seen with AKM rifles throughout the film. A couple are also seen being carried by guerrilla fighters Burnett encounters, including Babic (Kamil Kollarik), a young Bosniak who accompanies Burnett in his attempt to reach the extraction point. Burnett also commandeers one of these weapons from a dead Serbian soldier and uses it for the remainder of the film.

SA Vz.58

Along with the AK-series rifles, many of the Serbian soldiers can also be seen carrying SA Vz.58 assault rifles, both the fixed-stock Vz.58 and folding-stock Vz.58V, most notably in the scene where Burnett is navigating the minefield. A trio of Serbian soldiers brandishing SA Vz.58 rifles spot him and give chase, unaware of the minefield until they trigger it, killing them and destroying their rifles after he stepped the trip wire and broken the Vz.58 rifle.

AKMSU

Yet another weapon used by the Serbians is the AKMSU carbine. It is carried by Bazda (Marko Igonda) most of the time.

Machine Guns

Browning M2HB

In the scene where Stackhouse is captured, some of the Serbian vehicles arriving on the scene can be seen with American-made Browning M2HB heavy machine guns mounted on them.

Other

RPG-7

When Burnett is sneaking out of the town disguised as a Serbian soldier, one of the other soldiers he passes is carrying an RPG-7 slung on his back. Only the rear end of the launcher is visible, but given the filming location, it is likely that this is a genuine RPG-7 and not the Chinese Type 69 RPG clone.

M61 Vulcan

The M61 Vulcan appears in the film as the secondary armament of the F/A-18F Super Hornet piloted by the protagonists when they are shot down over Bosnia, although the weapon is not shown being fired since the pilots were conducting a reconnaissance mission at the time and not a combat mission.

M53/59 Praga Anti-Aircraft Gun

PROM-1 Anti-Personnel Mine

The mine Bazda steps on in the forest which is implied to be a pressure release detonated device appears to be a Yugoslavian PROM-1 anti-personnel mine, with the distinctive pronged tilt trigger of that weapon. If so, this is an error; the PROM-1's detonator is triggered by tilting the prongs, and the mine's bounding charge explodes around one second after the striker is released. The minefield Burnett is navigating when the Serbs chasing him set it off is comprised of numerous PROM-1 mines with tripwires crisscrossing the field. The detonation of the mines is falsely shown to be a directional blast, more akin to that of the American M18A1 Claymore. Strangely enough, right when Burnett stands up after the blasts an implied dud mine is shown with detonator missing, but body still showing. the body seems to be of the POMD-1 mine, while all the detonators used in the movie are that of the PROM-1 mine.
