Site down

Was it my imagination or was IMFDB down for at least one day? Is this something we should be concerned about?  :) Was it the server change over? Things DO LOOK much faster right now. :) Hope everything is okay and we haven't moved the servers to Haiti or some other hurricane ravaged place. ;) MPM2008

Hey

Hey Bunni, thanks for helping me create the Resident Evil page, just to let you know it's all done. Also, I wanted to know if you allowed 18th century weapons on this site too because I'm thinking about doing a page on The Last Samurai. Thanks.

Reply

Thanks, I just wanted to make sure it was okay with you before I started, and no problem, it was fun creating the Resident Evil page.

The Last Samurai is finished

Hey Bunni, I just wanted to let you know The Last Samurai page is finished, but some of the images I put up might need to be fixed. Sorry to bother you about it, but I don't know how to make the images fit together as well as you can. And also, I noticed you are creating a page on Heroes. I know a website where you can find the guns used on the show, go to this site:

http://heroeswiki.com/Main_Page

And search weapons, and it should bring you to a page that shows you the weapons that are used in the show, hope it helps.

Taking a short break.

Hey Bunni, I just want to let you know I'll be taking a short break so I can think of a film to make a page about next. Also, thanks for editing the pages Orca and I made and putting them on Wikipedia.

Image:Prof-Case.jpg semi-autos

Took a look at the pistols in Image:Prof-Case.jpg, and I believe the one in the back is a Beretta Inox while the one in the front seems to be some sort of custom job using a 1911 frame. I think the revolver -might- be a Taurus of some kind. Orca1 9904 17:02, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for the tip, that looks like the gun. RE: Apocalypse should be done today, I just have to add three more guns.

Re: Scarface

Thanks, I also like the job you did on Saving Private Ryan, you take better pictures then I do! Also, it might be awhile before I make another movie page, I have to get more Fullscreen dvds because most of my dvds are in Widescreen, and my picture don't come out so good with the two black bars at the top and bottom of the screen, but I'll do as much as I can. And thanks again for commenting my work on Scarface.

The Beretta/M16 issue

I think that the M16 rifle series page should be kept together, since the guns listed on the page are essentially the same weapon, though giving the Beretta 93R its' own page is possible, so long as it's done well and kept up to the same quality standards as the other gun pages on the site. Orca1 9904 22:39, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

I'm afraid I goofed on making a page for the Beretta 93R; it somehow ended up getting labeled as "Beretta 92". If you could fix this, I'd greatly appreciate it. Orca1 9904 23:12, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
Disreguard, Alienqueen11 took care of it. Orca1 9904

Merge Sig Sauer P220-series pistol pages?

I would like to suggest that all the pages for the Sig-Sauer P220-series pistols be merged into one, since they're all essentially variants of the same weapon. This merger would include the Sig Sauer P226 and Sig Sauer P228 pages, and any others I might have overlooked. Orca1 9904 16:56, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

I've copied the Sig P228 material onto the Sig P226 page, I just need someone to retitle the P226 page and redirect the P228 page. Orca1 9904 20:21, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

RE: Congrats

Thanks, that's great that they're featuring it. It's also good for this site since it's being advertised. And sure, I'll keep checks on the Scarface page, I already deleted one vulgar comment, I wonder how you block users like that from editing.

We need moderators

Hey Bunni, I was wondering if you knew how to get some moderators on this site to block some of the users because there's been alot of vandalism since we're gettting alot more visitors. This one user deleted the content on the main page, Scarface, wallpaper, and support, but don't worry I fixed them.

Relation between IMFDB and a former Wikipedia article?

Hey Bunni, I was curious, aside from the overall theme, is there any relation between this site and the former Wikipedia article "List of Firearms in Films" and its' sister article, "List of Firearms in Video Games? I was a frequent contributor to that article and a fervent advocate against its' deletion, and was wondering if that article is living on here? Orca1 9904 22:05, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

Re: Adding Admininstrators

Sure, I be more then happy to take up the status, just let me know when it's done, Thanks alot. Alienqueen11.

Re: Wikipedia article

I'm afraid I don't know any of the admins over at Wikipedia, I'm just another user there. As for your suggestion that I be a moderator here, I could give it a shot. Also, don't forget to retitle the Sig Sauer P226 page so it covers all the P220-series pistols, and/or let me know how to do it should you give me moderator privledges. Orca1 9904 01:07, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

Suggestion for movie articles

I just had an idea to help add something to the movie articles. How about adding movie poster or DVD/VHS cover images to them, like their articles over at Wikipedia have? Just a thought. Orca1 9904 01:25, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

The Sig P220 pistol page

Thanks for fixing the Sig Sauer P220 pistol page. I'll start fixing the links as nessicary. Orca1 9904 02:24, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

Re:Digg

Cool, You mean vote for it? I have to have an account there to do it, I'll make one. I just voted for or digged it, it has 7 diggs now.

New Category suggestion

Hey Chris, I was wondering if you could make a new category for movie posters & video covers? I'm considering adding movie posters & case cover images to some of the articles to improve them, but need a category to put those pictures in, since they don't exactly qualify as screenshots. Orca1 9904 23:04, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

Re: Cover and Poster Categories

How about we combine them together into "Poster and Cover Art"? make things a bit simpler and avoid mis-categorizing. Orca1 9904 02:10, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

Poster and Cover Art category created

I just created the "Poster and Cover Art" category. If you could create a link for it on the main page, I would appreciate it. Orca1 9904 22:18, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

Re: Funny

lol, that is funny. I still have more stuff to add before it's complete though. And also, when do you need those revolvers from Sin City identified? Alienqueen11.

Sin City Revolvers

I know some of those revolvers you're uploading, would you like me to tell you what they are here, or do you just want me to edit the screenshots? Alienqueen11.

RE: Sin City

Yeah, I was thinking that too, plus a few of them look like Colt Peacemakers or Single Action Armies.

Call for screenshots

I was wondering if you or Alienqueen111 could help add some screenshots to some of the film & game articles I've made? I'm only limited to images I've been able to scour off the internet, which sadly isn't much. Any help you two could provide would be greatly appreciated. Orca1 9904 21:56, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

Update on SC.

I identified some of weapons, and created some headlines for them and placed thier screenshots were they needed to be. but there are still four unknown guns though. Alienqueen11.

Re: Screenshots

Thanks man, I appreciate it. Orca1 9904 22:25, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

Ghost's 'mystery pistol' in The Matrix Reloaded

From what I've been able to dig up, it looks like Ghost (Andrew Wong)'s mystery pistol in The Matrix Reloaded is a customized SIG P220-series pistol, most likely a P229. Orca1 9904 03:57, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

Screenshots

Hey bunni, do you how to take a screenshot from a Widescreen movie and not have those two black bars?

Nevermind actually, I found a way to get rid of the black bars. Alienqueen11.

BHD M1911A1

Why did you delete the M1911A1 pistol from the Black Hawk Down article? That weapon is indeed used in there by the Delta Force operators. In the scene at the beginning of the film where Blackburn and Eversmann first meet, you can see one of the Deltas draw and fire his M1911A1 on the shooting range. It is also used by Delta snipers Shughart and Gordon in their ill-fated attempt to defend the second crash site. Orca1 9904 20:58, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

Shoot 'Em Up

In Shoot'Em UP, Mr. Smith is not firing a AKS-47U and the men chasing Mr.Smith are not firing FN SCAR's they both are armed with Mico Gali's.

Micro Galil.

The picture you have of the FN SCAR is not correct. You have a picture of a 'Robinson Arms XCR' with an EoTech sight. Here is a picture of an FN SCAR.

On a side note the SCAR has not been released to the civilain market yet, just like the H&K G36.--Gunner313 17:04, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

No Problem

No Problem, I blocked that user, and undid all his edits with the help of another user using an IP address so everything should be fine now. Alienqueen11.

Pistol ID Needed

Hey, do you think you could ID this pistol? I was browsing still images from The World Is Not Enough on IMDB and came upon this pic:

File:TWINEPistol.JPG
The "Cigar Lady" moments before using an unknown pistol to blow up a hot air balloon and kill herself in The World Is Not Enough

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Orca1 9904 20:40, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

Re: Glad to see you back!

Sorry about my absence, my computer ate it hard back in mid-september, and my internet access has been spotty at best (presently using my mom's laptop, hence why I haven't made pages for some of the things I've seen in the interim). I'm trying to get my computer back up, but it's looking to be a lengthy process due to financial troubles. Orca1 9904

About Snatch

There are a bunch of pictures of the S&W 686 being used, but when you click the pics, it says they're Colt Pythons. The pictures aren't that clear, so I can't be too sure, but at least one (the pic with the titles in it and the arm in the picture) is very likely not a Colt Python. The Python has a noticeable "railing" on the top of the barrel. S&Ws don't. The "Boris" picture, though, does look like a Python, although the top of the gun is hard to see.

thanks

is this how this works? I hope so. anyway, thanks for the message. I was thinking about signing up.

RE: SVT-40

It's too big to upload here, but here's an imageshack link: http://img248.imageshack.us/my.php?image=tokarevsvt40fa7.jpg

I paid about $300 for mine after a large number were imported to Canada, they're going for $400-$500 now as they got bought up. We got them because Russia signed a agreement with the Clinton government not to export certain firearms (including the SVT-40) to the US.

I will warn you, it's a real pain to strip, so if you're at all lazy about cleaning don't fire surplus ammo in it. I use Igman and Bell almost exclusively, it's still pretty cheap and I don't feel bad about firing it in some of my rarer rifles.

Shooter

Hey Bunni, can you please upload more images for Shooter when you get the chance, I want to see more great screenshots. I'll greatly appreciate it, thanks.

Re:Platoon

Thanks. I still got plenty to do. It should be done in an hou or two.

By the way, why did you pick Platoon for the front page? Just curious.

And if okay with you, you should add some of the larger articles like Hard Boiled (biggest with 54 guns) or one of my lesser ones like Last Action Hero. Or find articles that convey the different time periods. My Quigley Down Under page shows the 19th century side of the site. Heat should definately deserve a spot on the main page, being such an infamous gun movie. Sorry to advertize my work, I'm just shooting some ideas. Great site, still got many more articles to come. On my to-do list are Rambo II & III, and I got this western film called "Young Guns" to do. I might do The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly eventually. Weekends will be my time to shine now that I'm back to school. -Gunmaster45

Check out the vandal

Some moron is now vandalizing the Commando Page. His last comment when i said 'not to delete page contents and replace them with gibberish' was "It's fun. Good luck". But he changes his IP address every time. ((Edit: AlienQueen took care of it. Thanks! ) I hate these vandals.

Old site + front page

I'm trying to make the front page code function again so that we can see the same stuff we used to see, but no go. Also, someone is still editing the old site, apparently after accessing it via the link on the front page...maybe we should lock it so that source code can still be copied, but no new changes can be made?

Images

I noticed that the images of guns and screenshots on movie pages on this server are a little pixaleted and fuzzy when they were crystal clear on the old server. I'm sorry to bug you about this issue, but I would like to know if this is just a bug that will be worked out (hopefully), thanks. --Alienqueen11 01:47, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

You're the second person to tell me this - but I don't see it at all in my browsers? I've looked on OS X and Windows XP with Firefox, Safari, Internet Explorer, and Chrome... 76.174.56.4 02:13, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
Same here. I've been looking at several articles (mostly my own, admittedly), and I don't notice a difference. It might be the fact that I'm viewing the site on a laptop with a pretty small 13" screen, but I also viewed the site this morning on my desktop at work, which has a 19" monitor, and again...no difference in image quality that I could see.

I think I've found a solution, I found that if I change my Magnification from 100% to 101%, the images on the pages look fine, the page is a little wider, but it looks better. I think the site could have been slightly more magnified on the last server, is this possible?--Alienqueen11 03:25, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

Main Page

I added some more pages to the feed on the Main Page. Not just my own either...old favorites like Heat (still our most popular) and The Matrix, as well as various articles from the past few months by myself, Gunmaster, MoviePropMaster, and Orca. My criteria was to add thorough pages that have screencaps for all of the guns listed, and which generally meet high standards. This is, of course, your site, so feel free to judge which pages meet your standards for the Main Page, but I just think we should make sure we're promoting the best pages by our users.

Hah! I could hardly call it my site - too many great users, including yourself, have made huge contributions of time and energy to call it *mine* - I'm just trying to keep the hardware up to our growing needs and the site backed up daily! :) bunni 03:38, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
LOL...thanks, dude, but seriously, you started it, and you run it, so that does kinda make it yours, no?
BTW, what's wrong with the article feed? I've tried a couple of little edits that haven't made it work any better. Any idea what bug is causing that? Also, I edited the proportions of things slightly...the "Featured Page" now takes up 65% of the horizontal width, and the "Featured Image" 35%, which seems a little more ideal. -MT2008
The article feed relies on an extension that's giving me nothing but errors at the moment... I'm looking for a different version or a bug fix... bunni 06:06, 3 October 2008

Uzi

The Uzi page is down last I checked, thought I'd let you know. -GM

Moderating

Hey Bunni, I sorry to bother you about this, but there is a bug with my moderating abilities. I am unable to block users who vandalize or spam pages, there are these two users who inserted gibberish into The Rock page and Commando Talk page, and I'm unable to do anything about them. If this isn't too much trouble for you, can you fix this as soon as possible? Thanks.--Alienqueen11 17:49, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

Re: Admin Rights

I'm sorry, but I'm still getting an error message. Any ideas to what could be going on?--Alienqueen11 03:21, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

Here's the Database error message:

A database query syntax error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the software. The last attempted database query was: (SQL query hidden) from within function "Block::insert". MySQL returned error "1054: Unknown column 'ipb_by_text' in 'field list' (localhost)".

I'll going leave a message on Orca's talk page right now asking if he has the same issue.--Alienqueen11 04:03, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

Unregistered Users

I think anonymous users should only be allowed to edit a page if they have an account because any random troll can defile these pages whenever they please and if they register and troll, they are easier to ban. Also, when an anonymous user messages you, you can't respond back. By all means they should be allowed to read and view the pages but they shouldn't be allowed to defile the pages we work so hard on so much whenever. I know they can be blocked but still they do it so much, something should be permenantly done. Does it sound like a good idea? I'm not trying to make things harder for you so if it is too hard to do, dismiss my message. It's just when the Commando page and other pages keep getting trolled it makes me mad. P.S. What do you think of the new and improved Saving Private Ryan page I spent all day on? -GM45

Re: Which User?

I contacted Orca, and he has the same problem. Go to the Commando talk page, and look at the revision history and it's the first user down, and on The Rock page, there was a user that vandalized the page, but it has since been undone. Also be sure to read Gunmaster45's comment, it sounds like a way to protect the site, but I'm also afraid the site will loose activity if done so. I'll be sure to create a new account Thursday or Friday, I'll let you know the name when I do. Thanks, and good luck.--Alienqueen11 03:47, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

Personally, I don't agree with the idea of banning anonymous users from editing, for precisely the reason Alienqueen has cited. However, I do think we should probably get some more moderators around here. -MT2008

Okay, it was a bit harsh, but I was just throwing out ideas. In most cases, anonymous users make unprofessional pages, add incorrect info randomly, troll, and other things which wouldn't be missed (But not all. Some of the more knowledgable ones should just sign in with a user name and join the club), yet the main lot of us on the site with user names makes new professional pages and add good pictures everyday. I'm saying if it is harder to edit the site, more of the negative editors are weeded out and more of the dilligent users will sign in. And if a die-hard troll does sign in, he is far easier to ban and prevent future trolling. Obviously my plan is flawed but not a horrible idea. -Gunmaster45

My 2 cents on the issue. The person who was vandalizing the Commando page was doing it repeatedly from different IP addresses. IP addresses that changed from minute to minute, so this guy must have been doing it from a computer room at a school/college, or at a workplace with lots of IP addresses. This anonymous vandal taunted me with the words "Good Luck!" & "It's fun!" when I warned him to stop messing with IMFDB pages. One has to weigh the consequences, and personally, making it so that certain targeted pages are protected by these individuals, (and have to be edited only by persons who have bothered to make an online account), is a good compromise. Any other course of action, we can quickly lose control of IMFDB to people whose only desire is to do it harm. This comment coming from a member (me) who had to UNDO this weirdo's vandalism THREE times in the course of a few hours. If that had spread to the rest of the site ... I shudder to think what would happen. The fact that we have MODS who are willing to protect the site from this intentional vandalism is a good thing, and such action keeps members like myself from abandoning the site. I appreciate the quick action taken to protect the page. Members take a lot of their time to building good pages and it's one thing to lose info due to a hardware issue and it's another entirely to spend all one's time undoing the gibberish from a bunch of infantile internet vandals. Just something to think about. MoviePropMaster2008

I just created a new account called Tyrannosaurus, so you can try to upgrade whenever you're ready.--Alienqueen11 19:55, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

I can understand the frustration with these vandals. However, the fact is, most anonymous users are perfectly law-abiding and make useful contributions to the site. The way I look at it (and I say this as a libertarian who believes in personal freedom and responsibility), it's similar to the issue many of us have with gun control laws: A few gangbangers shoot up their "hoods" with AKs, so the liberals feel the need to ban everyone, including law-abiding citizens, from owning AKs. And the liberals might argue, "Well, if we don't ban assault weapons, think of all the criminals and terrorists who are going to use them to out-gun the police and take control of the streets!" But most of us would disagree with that, no? It's the same issue of freedom and responsibility here. I've had some pages I've worked on vandalized, and it's annoying, but it is fairly simple to undo the damage (go to "Page History", select the version that precedes the vandalism, and undo it). I think the biggest issue is the lack of available moderators to ban the vandals as soon as they strike. -MT2008

Nominations for new mods?

The site has a lot of great users who I would be happy to have as additional moderators - however not everyone wants the responsibility. So, rather than foisting administrator status on some users I'd love for you guys to either step up to the plate or nominate other users you trust. WikiSysop 19:55, 11 October 2008 (UTC) bunni 19:59, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

Sorry to say this, but it still won't let me block them.--Alienqueen11 20:02, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

Hey

Hey, Bunni, I would like to know if you can make MoviePropMaster2008 an adminstrator because a user has been uploading over his images, and I would like to put locks on his images so only he can upload new versions and revert them. Also, sorry if I'm bothering you, but did you ever find out what the bug was? I would really like to have the ability to block people again, because right now it would be very useful.--Alienqueen11 02:16, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

Sorry to say this but it still refuses to work, but it sounds like you getting close to solving the problem, I'm unable to block Users or IP adresses, but I'm still able to protect and delete pages, I think it says the error is in the function "Block::insert". . Is there a possiblity moving to a new server could fix the problem? (Not that you have to, It's just a thought). But thanks for making MPM2008 a mod though.--Alienqueen11 23:14, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks

Thank you so much, Bunni. I'm going to ban all the vandals we couldn't before now. If you still have the nomination thing up, I would like to recommend Gunmaster45 and MT2008 for positions as new Admins. I will also let Orca and MPM2008 know about the good news. Once again, thanks.--Alienqueen11 03:20, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

RE:Top pages

The page still needs a lot of work though. I'm still working on adding cars and knifes to the Punisher dicussion page for anyone to use, so I can't. Other wise, I would try. Any ideas on how to automate the page so it changes the information on its own? -GM

The Leone Trilogy

I just finished the last of the three Sergio Leone westerns, A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, and The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. I was wondering if their is any way to put them in order on the "next page" options and in order on the movie page instead of alphabetical order. It isn't a big deal but let me know if you can. Also, keep your eyes out for my next projects. I just got Last Man Standing in the mail today and I also planning to do The Whole Nine Yards and The Whole Ten Yards soon. -GM

That sounds like a good idea. -GM

Beast of War

Hey Bunni, Orca discovered another bug on the site. The Beast of War page is broken for some reason. If you can find a solution to that, I would be thankful.--Alienqueen11 19:44, 6 November 2008 (UTC)

Defiance

Hope you don't mind. I replaced some of your pics on the Defiance page along with some other screencaps. MoviePropMaster2008 06:33, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

Forums

Good Job on getting the forum back, but I recommend you put the anti-spam thing on it like you did with the one before the crash. Because you're already getting spammers on the off topic forum now.--Alienqueen11 23:33, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

Empty pages

Anonymous users have been making far too many empty pages and it's kinda getting out of hand. Is there anyway we can stop anonymous users from making pages (before I was thinking too harshly by saying they shouldn't be able to edit the site), now I think it is a little less harsh if we can stop them from making the 20 empty pages a day. Even if this isn't possible, is there any way we can notify them to stop making these empty pages? Gunmaster45 21:11, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

Another Mod recommendation

Hey Bunni, it's me again, and I have another mod recommendation. If you can make Excalibur01 an admin, it would appreciated. He has done alot of great work on the site, and is deserving of a promotion. Thanks.--Alienqueen11 03:04, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

Who's User:Tyrannosaurus?

It says he is a sysop, and I've never heard of him nor seen him post. Did you or WikiSysop give him this rank or is there foul play? - Gunmaster45

Speakeasy804

Bunni, you may have noticed User:Speakeasy804 has been doing an exceedingly good job of screencapping pages for some time now (sometimes two or three in a day!), do you think you could make him an Administrator, I think he's earned it. - Gunmaster45

Thanks!

Thank you very much for the new privilege! I'm honored and I'll try and keep up the good work! - Speakeasy804

Screenshots

Bunni, please do tell...how are we doing as far as server capacity goes? Do you want me (and other admins) to engage in another huge deleting spree of unused images/pages? We did it a while ago, but if it would help, please don't hesitate to ask.

Also, what kind of server upgrade do you need? -MT2008 03:33, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, I admit that many of us (myself included) have been getting WAY out of hand with screencaps. I used to make pages where I might have 10 images for a single gun, which is definitely overdoing it. And since many of our pages are the ones getting used for the Featured Article section, it makes sense. If you want, we can always start enforcing rules against having so many screencaps.
As far as the new server goes, how much are you going to need? In the forum, we've discussed the possibility of finding advertisers. This site's Main Page has had over 1,000,000 views, and in the last month since we reached that benchmark, we've now had close to 200,000 more. At that rate, we can definitely start shopping around for sponsorship deals, especially in the American gun owning community. It might help with finding money to upgrade servers.
The idea for the Main Page that you have seems like a decent enough idea, but I just worry that it will take away a great deal of the visual splendor from the site. After all, featured pages do a great job of showing casual viewers what IMFDB is like. An alternative might be to start being a LOT more frugal about what pages we put on. We can limit it only to articles that have, say, no more than 20 guns and no more than 3 images of each. I would be willing to edit some of my pages to fit this standard. -MT2008 04:00, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
I know what you're saying about the featured page, and that was my intention when I first added featured articles to the front page - but at this point we are receiving enough traffic that it has become a serious strain. I've just updated the front page with a couple examples of what I was talking about using only one screenshot and then linking to the article. We have so many new visitors daily that I think it's important our front page load quickly so they can access the rest of the site - I don't want to discourage new visitors with an unusually long load time as their very first experience with the imfdb. bunni 04:05, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
Understandable. Anyway, what about revenue from advertising? -MT2008 04:33, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

A new member asked me for help

Here is the repost of his query... Any idea why the system keeps kicking him out?

I am having difficulty trying to assist with the website. I have registered using the user name "sgtmonroe". Unfortunately I cannot seem to get anything to work on the website. Everytime I go to a page to upload an image, or something to that effect, I get logged out.
I am the "mystery user" that posted some additional information under the "Wild Geese" entry about the actors and firearms [such as the M1934 Beretta, SIG P-210, etc.]. For some reason when I posted my user name would not show up. I cannot figure out why the site keeps logging me out...even when I check the "Remember my login on this computer " box.
I would love to assist with the website...I have prepared screen caps for the film "Lost Command" and was going to update the page for it...since the entry is very lacking...the film features around 25 different firearms...yet the entry just has the "MAT 49" at this time.
I would appreciate any assistance you could afford me...BTW...after reading the forum entries I have noticed a trend in the complaints...just for your information I am 40 yo, former military and current law enforcement, can form a complete sentence, and have been a film "couch commando" pretty much my entire life...oh, and I own real guns!
Thanks for any help as well as your time concerning this matter.
C.A. Monroe

Template

Thanks for the note. To the mods: Though my own preference is strongly towards chronological order, I can accede to the wishes of the majority. I do like the format of Title First, before actor. Please note all, in the Steyr AUG page that the title, then character, then actor template, dovetails nicely into the other genres (television) but also Anime and Video games. Since there is no Character in some and no Actor in Anime or Videgame, I think this order maintains the same look from Film all the way down to VG. Thanks and please look at the page to see what I was referring to. Thanks again. MoviePropMaster2008 04:28, 21 June 2009 (UTC)

Account(maybe you could help)

I had to make another account because Kenny99 has account problems. When I clicked on to my user page, it is always blank and nothing else. I am not sure why this happens, but I uploaded a drawing from my camera, uploaded it, and the uploading progress disappears. I don't know why, but probably my camera probably has problems. - Kenny199 02:46, 5 September 2009 (UTC)

  • Never mind, it is solved. - Kenny99 05:49, 5 September 2009 (UTC)

Help!

Bunni, I really need your help, there is an error on this site preventing us from undoing revisons on Pages and Images, and this asshole named Hieloco just ruined a few of MoviePropMaster2008's images, and I can't fix them, please respond as soon as possible.--Alienqueen11 23:53, 5 October 2009 (UTC)

I just sent you a message concerning this on your Gmail.--Alienqueen11 00:10, 6 October 2009 (UTC)

Thanks Bunni, and yeah, I was assuming Unixy was someone was an administrator or someone like that. I'd also think the bug is affecting some pages such as a few talk pages too because if you look at ones such as Orca's and yours, a whole bunch of text in missing at the top, but it appears in the edit page. Anyway, whatever it is, I wish the best of luck in fixing it, and thanks for your help again. P.S sorry if I overreacted earler.--Alienqueen11 01:42, 6 October 2009 (UTC)

the Mystery IP address

If you look at the recent activity page, ANYONE who has edited without logging in has the same IP address :) It's some serious X-Files stuff goin' on! :) MoviePropMaster2008 04:24, 8 October 2009 (UTC)

Thanks

I will only exercise the function when deleting or banning spammers (don't know how to do that yet, but the next time someone spams the forums with gibberish, I'll get the chance to practice). Thanks again. MoviePropMaster2008 04:25, 25 October 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for deleting the old re-directs

Those were back in the days before I was able to delete spam pages. As a regular member, all I could do was blank the page and change it into a legitimate gun or movie page. Anyway, that hasn't been an issue for a long time. :) MoviePropMaster2008 07:41, 25 October 2009 (UTC)

forum login

Well the weird thing is that there were 2 instances when the forum asked for my password when I wanted to delete and ban a spam bot. Those 2 instances when I typed my password correctly, it lead to a thing that said that it was the wrong password and that I should wait 15 minutes to try again. I then clicked on the button that saids send me password to my email to see if I did used the wrong password, but I never got any emails from the forum. Later on, when I tried again, I was able to delete spambots by typing in my password, unchanged. Excalibur01 15:31, 25 October 2009 (UTC)

Rules page

Sorry, it seemed as if we were conflicting each other's edits. I will stop if you want to flesh out the page uninterrupted :) My apologies. MoviePropMaster2008 04:37, 26 October 2009 (UTC)

Insulting actors

I was torn on putting it in the commentary section (which I have not had time to flesh out yet) rather than the principles section. It could belong in either section. In the commentary section I was going to address (a) inappropriate comments (b) moving commentary to the discussion page, (c) insulting actors (d) noting that observing flaws or goofs or anachronisms in a scholarly way is not being insulting (e) to limit sarcasm in all descriptions and commentary on pages (f) limit requoting entire sections of the movie in commentary 'just because it's cool' .... stuff like that. I'll put it in whatever section you deem appropriate though. Just let me know. :) MoviePropMaster2008 00:48, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

My forum login is still screwed up

Not only can I not log in most of the time, the forum logs me OUT after a few minutes. I was composing a response to a question and I was logged out and not, again, cannot log back in. Can this be fixed? No much I can do as a Mod if I can't get into the forums. :) MoviePropMaster2008 19:54, 2 November 2009 (UTC)

Forum problems login

Yes, I cannot login most of the time, because when I click on 'remember me', even if I carefully type in the correct username and password, I still get booted out with the warning that I've used up my login attempts, WTF? Only if I don't click on 'remember me' can I log in, but then I get logged out very quickly (within fifteen minutes) I know this because I was composing a forum reply to someone and just as I was about to post it, I got a NEW error message that I must be logged in, in order to post, but I was already logged in. So when I tried again to log in, I got the same Error message that I had used up all of my login attempts, even though the last time I tried to log in was obviously successful. I gave up trying to reply to ANYONE's forum posts, because I get booted out alot and can't get back in. Hopefully this description helps. MoviePropMaster2008 22:32, 4 November 2009 (UTC)

I still can't get into the FORUM

I've tried many times. I always get this when I try to log in for the first time....

It's really ridiculous. I was given Mod powers to delete and block spammers but I spend HOURS where I cannot get in. MoviePropMaster2008 20:58, 9 November 2009 (UTC)

You won't believe this

Score! I've been holding off uploading these because I'm still waiting on an image for the Heartbreak Ridge' page (their weapons are set up slightly differently) so I hope people will wait to update that page until I can get a good image for that page.

Say Hello to My Little Friend!!!

Scarface fans will crap in their pants. Got the ACTUAL screen used LITTLE FRIEND. Now I used black gaffers tape and taped two 30 round magazines together as best I could (to try to match the screenshots). Do you think that was smart? or should I just present it with a plain magazine? Anyway, I did that because I wanted people to see it as it was most seen in the movie (Wow that launcher is beat up, it's been 25 years after all since the movie was filmed!!!!) It is also the old launchers that were used before the Cobray 37mm launchers became prevalent.

RUN! GET TO THE CHOPPA!!!!!

Recognize this lovely? I've been waiting to get pics for the Predator page for a while. So many weapons have either been sold off or taken apart and reconfigured for other movies.

IMFDB is the only place in the WORLD, now that has these images. How cool is that? :) I got some screen used muskets from Last of the Mohicans (from private collections), which is interesting since I usually don't get many pre 1848 weapons. MoviePropMaster2008 03:31, 12 November 2009 (UTC)

The new 870

Nice shotgun you got there, Chris! I was in the market for a shotgun myself recently, and I thought about getting the 870 Express Tactical (with the rails and the door breacher), but ultimately decided on the Mossy 500 Mariner instead (because the stainless look won me over). Here's mine:

(I now have a pistol grip for it, too)

Still, that 870 looks sweet. Again, good choice. -MT2008 18:28, 16 November 2009 (UTC)

Congrats on the 229R, too. As for me, I love my SIG. It's a good, dependable shooter and far more accurate than I can ever hope to be. As for the 229, it's a good choice, although I personally find it a bit too wide (its grip circumference is a bit wider than that of the 226 and 228). But I'm sure you'll like it. It's a very popular LE pistol, and for good reason. -MT2008 00:50, 19 November 2009 (UTC)

Interesting email I recieved

I recieved an interesting email today in regards to deleting a duplicate image of an RKG-3 anti-tank grenade, filename 'RKG-3 GRENADE REPLICA.jpg' and I thought I should share it to see what you and the other senior admins think of it. Below is the bulk of the message in its entirety:

"Hello,

Thank you for the image update on IMFDB, we didn’t load those images originally due to copyright issues and chose to use an image from our company website instead. Any questions you have regarding ordnance or weapons feel free to send an email. Thank you and any questions, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Sincerely,

If I'm interpreting this correctly, it sounds like someone uploaded a copyrighted image without permission and the owners of the image emailed me to thank me for removing it. What do you think? Orca1 9904 18:46, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

Deseart Eagle page edit

Hey, I know your not the original creator but since you the second person to work on it and the original creator doesn't have a page, I figured I would ask you. I was wondering if I can fix up the Desert Eagle page by turning the lists into tables and ordering them in the correct time line. I just wanted your permission before I started screwing around on that page. Thanks, --ThePotShot 23:33, 21 June 2010 (UTC) PS:Same with the Colt Python page. Thanks again.

Small image upload problem

I just tried to upload a new version of this [1] image, but for some reason it wont show. I tried reverting to it, but to no avail. Can you do something about this? Thanks in advance! --Milkovich

Thanks for answering, but no, it still does not work. When I try to replace a screenshot the first time it refuses to do so and re-uploads the original instead http://www.imfdb.org/index.php/Image:ATeamS2_2009.jpg. The one picture that seems to work only has a working thumbnail. Try clicking the picture and it will redirect you to the old version. --Milkovich

Alright, I had to upload them on a German site, imageshack isnt working for me. All of the pictures are replacements for old ones, mostly by Ben41.

Note how this one was actually replaced, but the thumbnail in the article hasn't changed...:

Thank you for helping with this. --Milkovich

Feature article problems

Sometimes the feature article is not showing up on the main page. I think it has just started in the last few days. It may have been doing it before, but I never noticed. Could it be the number of articles on the feature list, even though it's random? 3 new articles have been added in the last few days, I've added one of them. I usually try to take an old article off before adding another. Just wondering what the problem could be.--Predator20 22:28, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

Note my comment to the NUTCASE 'inventor' on the Total Recall Page

If he were real he would NOT be talking to a lawyer. Despite being a gun inventor, he sounds like a kid when he writes. In order to be liable, one must inflict some sort of 'damage' whether to reputation, marketing, sales, review, etc. This guy is 2 bottles short of a sixpack based on his comments. I have no problem telling him where to shove it. (his rant was moved to discussion page and my response as well) MoviePropMaster2008 22:13, 19 September 2010 (UTC)

Axeman and Lost Images

On the Lost page, the user Axeman keeps reverting the screencaps back to originals he put up. Axeman's images weren't cropped and were too dark. I put up a comparison of his images next to mine on the Lost Discussion page. I think mine would be preferable, but I want to get some other opinions. --Ben41 22:40, 27 September 2010 (UTC)

Question

Ok, Question I need to ask.

I notice that this website operates alot like a wiki. How did you do that? Does it cost money to operate a website like this? The reason I am asking this is because I have my own Wiki, but, do to circumstances beyond my control, I must find a new home for this wiki. Why? Simple: Because the new layout SUCKS! Also I know this is asking alot, but Do you now a way I could do this change quickly? However the big thing is making act like a wiki, but having the good old layout that you somehow have. So please answer back.

P.S. Sweet 870. :) Drjuki 20:33, 30 October 2010 (UTC)

Not allowing PNG's

Someone noted that if we're discouraging uploading of PNG files, then it should be removed as an acceptable format on the upload page. This has been asked in the forum, but is there a way to do that? Is there a way to just restrict the uploading of files to just JPG's only? --Ben41 07:31, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

Searching Images

In the "Screenshot" category, is there any way to increase the number of images seen in the page? Currently you can only search for 200 images at a time, and with the amount of images we now have, it takes forever just to get through the "A"'s. Another way maybe to put the Alphabetical index up there like the one seen on the Main Page? Thanks for your time. --Ben41 02:01, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

Um, hi. You propably haven't seen me before, I'm Warejaws. The message on the main page said to contact you if any problems appeared. Well... I can't see any screenshots (or any pictures at all), as if they have disappeared into thin air. I just get a message like this: "Error creating thumbnail: File seems to be missing: /home/imfdb/tmp/5/54/24S7E4_H&K_MP7A12.JPG" on top of a grey area where the picture usually is. I don't know why this is happening, but I hope they get this fixed... --Warejaws 03:06, 5 March 2011 (MSK)

Upload Page problems

Just letting you know that after I upload an image, the final image page doesn't recognize that I've logged in (so I can't delete any images if I need to). Also the "upload file" command is missing on the left side in the "toolbox". It's useful when I'm uploading multiple images that I don't have to go back to another page to do it. --Ben41 07:02, 5 March 2011 (MSK)

Still having problems uploading

You're welcome with the RB page. Here's the problem I'm still having. When I click on a picture and brought to that picture's page, the site doesn't show that I'm logged in even though I am. Also when I'm on that picture page, I use to be able to go to the "toolbox" on the left side and be able to click "upload file". It's missing now on the picture page only.

Here's the snap of a page as it looks now. --Ben41 07:36, 5 March 2011 (MSK)

Note in the upper right it only says "Logged in" and then on the right there's no "upload file" command in the toolbox.

One more Thing

The top ad is not centered anymore (probably because the side ads are gone). Are you planning to put up the side ads again? While it's nice to have more space for editing, if it helps to pay the bills, I would say go ahead. --Ben41 07:59, 5 March 2011 (MSK)
