Smith & Wesson 6900 pistol series
The Smith & Wesson 6900 series are 'Third-Generation' descendants of the earlier (Second-Generation) blued Smith & Wesson 469 and stainless Smith & Wesson 669 Semiautomatic Pistols (9mm). Most pistols in the 6900 series feature a safety/decocking lever with a bobbed, spurless hammer. This requires the first shot to be in double action mode, though all subsequent shots can be in single action.
The series consists of the 6904, which features a dark finish, the 6906, which is same as the 6904 but with stainless steel finish on the slide and satin silver alloy frame, and the 6946, which is the 6906 in DAO (double-action only), without an external safety.

Smith & Wesson 6904
The 6904 is a compact version of the 5904, with a bobbed hammer. It features an aluminum alloy frame and an alloy steel slide. Like the 5904, all major parts are blued except for the barrel, which is stainless.

Smith & Wesson 6906
The 6906 is a compact version of the 5903, with a bobbed hammer. It features an aluminum alloy frame and a stainless steel slide. Unlike the 6904, the frame does not have a black finish and is left in the white.

Smith & Wesson 6946
The 6946 is a 6906 with a double action-only trigger. Like the 6904 or 6906 it has a bobbed hammer, but it cannot be fired in single action mode. There is no safety/decocker on the 6946.
