Introduced in 1980, the Model 3000 was an effort by Smith & Wesson to compete with Remington, both for more Police business and for sporting arms. Howa of Japan produced the shotgun for Smith & Wesson and the quality was top level. The Model 3000 competed with the venerable Remington 870 and in many respects surpassed the famous workhorse. It was available in both police and sporting models. The police model could be had with a folding stock/pistol grip or with full-stocked wooden furniture.
