Extra work on the SG-1 page
Hey, I really like all the work you've done to make the SG-1 page into a comprehensive list of all the weapons that have appeared on the show. However, I must ask...would you be OK if I did some extra work on it just to make it a little less taxing on the eyes? When you have lots and lots of screenshots, it's usually a good idea to make them into thumbnails on the page so that they don't wind up being an eyesore.
Additionally, I'd also recommend you add episode info to each screenshot (if you've got it), as well as pictures of the guns from our archive so that anyone browsing this site will have something to compare it to. See what I've done on the section for the very first gun on the page (the Beretta M9) as an ex of what I mean.
-If you want to make the page better, go right ahead. I had no problems with the size of some of the pics cause I think it draws attention, but if you think it is better a little smaller, go right ahead. I'm still new to the wiki editting, so I don't know how to do everything.
SG-1 Screenshots
GREAT WORK! on the SG1 screen shots. I just wish more people knew how to do great screen shots and put them in the pages. It really makes the page great! BTW: I will be doing more custom gun photographs soon and I will be photographing my own USAS-12 with both stick and drum magazines in place. I try to grab as many real movie guns from my own inventory (plus guns from the inventory of professional colleagues as I can), but they're in the biz of making movies and get annoyed with me sometimes, since I always want to take softbox photos of their guns against a white background. I will GET shots of the actual guns from T-2 perhaps in a month when I get a chance. Great WORK on the SG1 pics! MoviePropMaster2008
SG-1 guns
Hi,
Your pages for the Stargate movies and TV show are really awesome! Thanks for all the hard work you've put in! I wish I could do the same, except my POS laptop has been really acting up lately and I literally can't play any of my DVDs on it right now.
Anyway, I just thought I'd help out with some extra details, in case you find them relevant:
- (1.) Most of the M16A2s on SG1, especially in the early seasons, are actually M16A1s that have been fitted with A2-style handguards. You can tell because they have A1-style receivers which lack the brass deflector and the elevation-adjustable rear sight (look closely at the rifle in the top picture, for instance). A few of them (usually in non-firing scenes) are actually civilian AR15 SP1s which lack even the forward assist and the magazine fencing.
- (2.) I believe the AKs used by the Russian SG team are actually Norinco Type 84s, which is a Chinese AK variant that fires 5.56x45mm. In the show, they seem to be fitted with AK74-style folding stocks and muzzle breaks, but the design of the magazine (steel and ribbed, not plastic like the real AK74) gives them away.
- (3.) The AKs used by the Hondurans are a Yugoslav copy called the Zastava M70B.
- (4.) Many of the M203s on SG1 are look-a-like 37mm Colt flare launchers, which is very common in many movies and TV shows when they don't want to spend the money - or go through the legal difficulties - of getting real M203s (which are NFA-regulated items).
- (5.) As far as the "Carter Special" (the little AR with the thumbhole stock) goes, the picture you posted to illustrate it is an airsoft replica. The guy who built it (for that "Stargate6.com" site that doesn't work anymore) once posted about it on Airsoft Retreat, years ago now. Somebody else actually built a real one, except that it was semi-auto only and had been registered as an SBR in that person's state. I wish so much that I remember where the hell I saw/heard about it! -MT2008
Contributions to IMFDB response
It says one of your contributions is Flashpoint. Respectively, I'd like to mention I've listed almost every gun on their and every picture, screenshots and all to the page. No offense of course, but I have to brag to someone :). I cleaned up you profile page, hope you don't mind.
- Alright, you did a lot of listing and then some pictures, but I also did some additions as well as add my own pictures. I mean, the series is pretty new, at the 4th episode and I named about 3 weapons and uploaded a handful of pictures. I think that much work than minor additions deserves to be "contributions" than on just "minor" additions. I mean if the series was complete and there is always a pretty complete page with photos and I jumped in and added my own, then yeah, that's a minor addition. But since I am doing my best with this new series since it's hard to find screenshots, I think I deserve a mention.
Your pages
We all love your pages, you make them well, but can you please put them in proper format? Copy it from another page if you must, because it's hard work changing it for you. I just finished doing it with the Gone in 60 seconds page, and then you bring up another. And don't forget to add stock pictures of the gun itself. That's why they have gun pictures for use on the site. I'm not trying to argue or anything but putting the pages into proper format is difficult with another person's page. By putting something in "thumb" format, you make the picture with a nice looking frame, and yoo can add a caption under it. I put your pic size at 500px because I figured you like the shots big(I do 400px). Also, the poster looks nice when you move it to the right. after each picture type in:
(double brackets)Image:whateverpicis.jpg|thumb|none|500px|Caption to describe picture(double brackets) And for poster, instead of "none", type "right" to move it to the right. Keep up the good work. -GM
- I'll work on it all right away
Flashpoint
Thank you so much for uploading screencapps for the page, I was afraid I'd have to see pictureless "Unknown" guns on the page the whole time until the DVDs came out. your shots look great. I would have kept doing it, but my screencapping system died, and I missed so many episodes, they stopped playing some on the CBS site, and I'd missed too many, and figured I'd just wait for the DVDs.
The Unit
The High Standard HDM is a maybe, the ruger II is a definate no. The gun clearly has a flat top and the slide is open top and in full. A Ruger has a concealed slide inside the gun with nothing but the toggle knobs visible. It may be a S&W 46, but it is hard to tell.
That is/was an M60E4/Mk43 Mod 1. The GPMG is used by the SEALS and by the 5th SFG in "real life" so it would be logical for it to be in the Unit's inventory alongside the H&K 416. The addition of so many rails to the thing almost obliterates the classic outlines of the M60 (that and a major reworking of the feed system). Besides with Dennis Haysbert's size...the thing probably would look like a SAW. - Charon68
Cartoons
I'm a bit torn on the matter. On the one hand, I agree that it's easy to get carried away with cartoons, which are basically not intended to be serious and rarely focus upon guns (the way action movies do). However, it is true that some cartoonists are actually gun guys and depict guns pretty realistically in their shows. Most seasons of South Park, for instance, feature very detailed images of M16A1s, SPAS-12s, S&W 5904/06, and a bullpup rifle similar to the G36 that were obviously intended to duplicate the real guns. In cases like that, I think it could be argued that the creators actually did show an attempt to depict guns realistically.
On the other hand, whoever made the South Park page really should have put more effort into it. It's kinda lazy to do what they did. -MT2008
Got a gift for ya
figured you could use a shot of a PSG01 with a 20 round mag in it. You sure won't find one on the net ... ;) So I made sure I popped in a 20 when I shot my PSG01. ;) Let me know if you can use it for your "The Unit" page....
??
Why are you thanking MT2008 for the PSG pic? ;) MoviePropMaster2008 22:09, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
Screencaps
Hi,
I appreciate you providing screencaps for movies such as Pineapple Express. But...I have some reservations. I know your screencaps would have to be from a bootleg AVI or MPEG file, since the movie isn't out on DVD or Blu Ray yet. I am a bit concerned that if studio spies were prowling the net for stuff like this, they might come upon your screencaps and we'd get in trouble.
I will not delete the shots you've already uploaded, but in the future, I'd prefer that you didn't upload screenshots from movies that haven't come out on DVD yet, just in case we get in trouble. Plus, the DVD will always be superior quality, anyway. That is all.
Cheers. -MT2008 05:38, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
- Well, I dunno if you saw, but when The Incredible Hulk came out on DVD, I screencapped it all over again.
- Like I said, when a movie isn't out on DVD yet, the studios will know if they see screenshots on here that they could only have come from a bootleg. So yeah, like I said, please don't post screenshots of movies not out on DVD. I just don't think it's such a good idea. But the Pineapple Express shots you've got can stay.
- Thanks. -MT2008 05:44, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry, man. Don't take it personally; it's just that I'm worried it might invite unwanted attention. -MT2008 05:51, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
- That is a good question. The answer is, basically not. Technically, posting screencaps from DVDs - even those you've bought - falls within particular intellectual property infringements, but in practice, these have largely gone unenforced.
- Downloading a bootleg copy of a movie, however, is another issue entirely. If you post screenshots from a movie that isn't out on DVD, you might as well be advertising that you were bootlegging. I'd just prefer we didn't do it, but this is perhaps a matter worth discussing with Bunni. -MT2008 06:09, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
Sara Connor Chronicles "Unknown Gun"
Hey, just took a look at the pistol you have listed as an "Unknown Gun" on the Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles page. I'm not exactly sure what kind it is, though it does appear to be a Smith & Wesson semi-auto of some sort. It looks the most like a Smith & Wesson 4506, but the squared trigger guard looks like that on the Smith & Wesson 5906. Orca1 9904 08:26, 21 November 2008 (UTC)Orca1_9904
Tropic Thunder
Please stop changing my DVD cover on Tropic Thunder. That picture was personally photocopied and uploaded by me and is currently the only version of that cover on the internet. Plus, it depicts what DVD I used, which I always do when I make a page. Since I went through all the trouble to screencap the movie, I think I'm entitled to at least keep the cover I want. -GM
Re:John Woo quote
No, sorry, I'm afraid I don't know, but I would like to be able to add quotes myself. The one you've chosen is a good one; another one I like is "Give the guy a gun, he thinks he's Superman. Give him and he thinks he's God", which is from Hard Boiled. But we should find out...
BTW, please sign your talk page posts by hitting "~" four times in a row (no spaces). -MT2008 05:07, 22 November 2008 (UTC)
Re:Full Metal Panic
It looks great! Very thorough...though, of course, I recommend as usual adding links to the pages for each gun. :) -MT2008 22:43, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
RE:E
Great job with the page (did you figure out how to crop the widescreen shots mid-way?). When I had first seen the movie, I wasn't a capper yet. I'm stumped on the SMG but I'm sure MT or MPM will know or find out (I'll check some of my sources if they don't know). I'll be working on the Dark Knight some more. Let me know if you need anymore help.
And with Taurus to Beretta, basically all Berettas except the first model 92 (seen in Hotel Rwanda have decocking safeties. The 92S has a rounded trigger and a right decocker. The 92SB has rounded trigger and ambi decocker. The Beretta 92F and FS are visually the same but have a squared trigger guard and an ambi decocker.
Now the have always had frame mounted slide stop safeties like 1911s. Most have ambidextrous frame safeties. The squared trigger guard is slightly more rounded (still reversed curve, but softer). The AF models are more recent and newer looking (they have widened cocking serations). For I.Ding, that's about the basics of it. - Gunmaster45
Flash Animations
I don't even like anime all that much let alone flash animations. The only way I'd except them is if he went through the work of screencapping them. And I doubt he'll do that. - Gunmaster45
- I'm getting tired of these flash animation pages myself. Time to put this trend to rest.
- I like the RE: Extinction page, though of course I must remind you to add links to the gun pages. I think you are right that the Polish subgun must be one of the newer variations, but I knew I recognized the receiver shape when I saw it.
- Also, thanks for ditching the images from the Tunnel Rats pages; I will delete them soon. I have been meaning to for a while, but I must admit I hesitated. -MT2008 02:10, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
- Let me rephrase, I don't like the animes that have guns that look nothing like real guns in which people guess. Those are annoying. - Gunmaster45
- Yeah, the professionally done anime deserves to be included on this site. I know those guys make a serious attempt to draw guns as realistically as possible (I believe they use airsoft guns as their references, but still, give 'em credit for making do with what they have, since Japan's gun laws are so strict). Cartoons like Family Guy are a bit of a stretch, but at least it's a professionally-done TV series, and at least they do make some attempt at realistic guns (i.e. the obvious XM8s in one episode).
- I appreciate you deleting the images, but to be fair, I dunno if I have a problem with low-quality DVD rips per se. When I was a new user here, I did plenty of pages with those myself (nowadays, I mostly use DVDs and iTunes movie rentals). Main reason I was nervous about Pineapple Express was that it was a big movie, and some studio spy might see our page, and he would know it was a bootleg because the movie wasn't out on DVD when the page was screencapped. MoviePropMaster agreed with me on that. Of course, Tunnel Rats is a Uwe Boll movie, which means nobody should get upset if it's bootlegged (that dude doesn't deserve to make money off his movies at all). But that's beside the point...-MT2008 02:41, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
Resident Evil: Extinction
Hey, nice work on Resident Evil: Extinction, it looks like GM45 answered your questions. Anyway, as for Flash Animations, I have to agree with you and everyone else. Flash animations don't belong here, anyone can basically create crude animations and shapes with flash. Plus, other users will probably see pages like that, and think they'll be able to put up their stupid airsoft movies. Also, if you want, I could you give an admin recommendation to the head of the site so you can get rid of pages like that without having to wait around for someone else, let me know if you would like to become a mod.--Alienqueen11 02:57, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
- First of all, it's kinda weird to be talking about him in third-person, since he can read our talk pages. LOL. Anyway, I don't think we were too harsh. The admins agree that flash animations don't qualify for IMFDB inclusion, and we make/enforce the law. Of course, the law hasn't been written, so I see no need to get angry at somebody for being ignorant of something that they couldn't have known. But I guess I would expect common sense to take over where law is non-existent...oh, well.
- I do agree with you that DVD rips should generally not be used. I have not and will not use them anymore for any new pages I make - I now use mostly iTunes rentals (which are pretty high-quality). Just not sure we should necessarily reject/ban their use. Anyway, all of this is stuff I need to articulate in the IMFDB "constitution" which I hope to write soon. I apologize for not getting it done sooner, but between working 45-hour weeks and trying to get myself into M.A. programs, I have simply not had as much time to devote to this site as I used to have when I was in college and over the summer. Even doing the Hard Target page was a challenge to my schedule. -MT2008 02:59, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
You have been recommended, hopefully you'll get promoted soon. Thanks, and keep up the good work.--Alienqueen11 03:06, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
- I second that. You've been on here quite a while and have made lots of excellent contributions, though of course I still must emphasize (being obsessive-compulsive as I am) that you should add links to the guns on all of your movie/TV/anime pages. :) But anyway, it's definitely time we had you "made". I fully back you for Admin status. Assuming you want the job, of course, hehe.
- Got rid of the "Madness" page, and I appreciate the compliments on Hard Target. -MT2008 03:38, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
Just made you an admin
Congrats - just made you an admin on Alienqueen's recommendation.
Airsoft
they look pretty cool. Certainly airsoft guns look a lot NEWER and CLEANER than the real ones I handle every day. But I'm not into airsoft. In fact a lot of the real hardcore live firearms guys aren't that into Airsoft. I have NEVER fired an airsoft gun, ever, but we have used airsoft guns as non firing props or stand ins for live guns on set. So I've handled quite a few of them. Hopefully you can tell that my pics are of real guns, not airsoft guns. :) Airsoft is a great alternative to live guns when we don't want to hand the actors live steel. Other than that, I have never had any interest in the airsoft gaming activities. I find it funny when I run into young guys who only know the AIRSOFT names of rifles, rather than the real names of the real guns. (like the proprietary King or G&G or Classic Army guns, which approximate real world guns). Also, airsoft has the advantage of NOT rusting in wet weather. I have to go check the vaults all the time during winter time to make sure the temp control and humidity is okay. I just ran into a rack of rusting M1 Garands. best regards. MoviePropMaster2008 08:41, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
- I think Airsoft is pretty neat, though my experience with it is rather limited. I've only been to one game, and even then I had to borrow a gun from one of the other guys (an ICS M4A1, which I must admit was a pretty sweet AEG, had a metal reciever, barrel, & front sight and even stripped like the real thing). I sadly can't afford any airsoft guns of my own (to say nothing of the real weapons they imitate!), but have a laundry list of airsoft stuff I'd like to get if I did have the money. Hit me up on AIM, MSN, or YIM sometime and we can chat some more about it. Orca1 9904 10:55, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
I like airsoft guns to mess around with but I can't afford any of the heavy duty stuff you serious players use. I've played a few games with my friends on my property (130 acres of fun) but only have spring and replacable battery guns. Basically I buy airsoft guns resembling guns I can't buy in the real steel like assault rifles. My most expensive gun is a metal Marui copy of an AK-47, costed $80 on eBay. So while airsoft is fun, I don't have the gear to play it properly and really prefer real shooting to airsoft. (plus airsoft guns break a little too easy.) - Gunmaster45
Your Classic Army M4A1 is very nice . in Hong Kong more people like G&P more that Classic Army , why ? Because US ARMY use COLT not Armalite . They say : US ARMY are not use Armalite M4A1 . If marking is Armalite it is wong . But i think they can make some Civilian Rifles use safe and fire marking . WE made a gas M4A1 , you think this is good for play ? WA change to metal very expensive ... (sorry for my english is not very good) kin93
- I used to mess around with airsoft quite a bit when I was younger, and still like to play around with my airsoft guns from time-to-time. My collection includes a Tokyo Marui "MP5A5" (what TM calls the MP5A5 is actually an MP5A3 with Navy trigger group in "real steel"), M16A2, a Western Arms Beretta 92F, and a really cheap CO2 Micro Uzi (can't remember who makes/made it). I used to own a springer Mark 23 (also TM) that got smashed to hell when I dropped it down a flight of stairs when I was 16. However, I've only skirmished a few times in my life, don't own any gear besides the guns/mags, and generally don't care much about the game itself. I mostly just bought the guns because at the time, that was as close as I could get to the real thing without going through my parents, and they refused to let me buy "tacticool" weapons. Now that I am legally old enough to own/buy real guns, those are taking up more of my time/money.
- So, judging by the kit your team wears, are you supposed to be SAS? -MT2008 22:09, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
- Ah, OK, makes sense. I'm guessing that's also how you've heard of Ultimate Force? You're just about the only American I know besides myself who even knows that show exists. -MT2008 04:55, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
RE: Airsoft
Nice Airsoft pictures, I once started collecting airsoft guns but I quickly lost interest. Those are very good looking replicas though, are they as heavy as they look?--Alienqueen11 04:41, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
Flashpoint
You may have noticed I've been adding shots from the new season for Flashpoint, but there are three shots I've really wanted that I can't grab. One is a shot of Ed Lane with a Remington 700PSS from the first episode (I no longer have access to that one, and he is the main sniper, he should have a picture.)
The other two shots were from the episode when the robber holds up the bank with a Beretta. Before I realized my computer had a free capping ability, I ran out of my session and only nabbed one shot of the Beretta. There was a good shot were he charges the police before being shot and I couldn't grab it. There were a few other good shots I could have used of his Beretta. The other shot was in the same episode when Sam Braddock is aiming his Remington PSS. There is a great sideshot of him aiming it and plus there is a shot were you see his bolt is open even though he is shooting someone.
I can't get these shots so if you could find them or tell me some sites were I can, it would be much apprieciated. (I tried CTV, it doesn't work for me for some reason.) Thanks. - Gunmaster45
Re:
I appreciate the help on my Ultimate Force page. However, do you think you can start with Season 4? I already have the first three seasons on DVD, just not 4. If you did 4 and I did more work on the other three, I think that would be great.
Also, out of curiosity, have you seen this show before? -MT2008 02:35, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, the first two seasons were really good (plus, not so much focus on the soldiers' wives - except for Pete's). But the third season on is where they went downhill, which was mostly because of Chris Ryan leaving and not being around to provide technical advise. I've never seen the fourth, but heard it's really terrible.
- Also, I can add more screenshots of my own. Part of the reason I abandoned the page for so long was because my old laptop had gotten so messed up that I couldn't play DVDs on it anymore. Then when I got my new one, I had trouble getting it to play on multi-region settings (which I needed to watch this show). It was only about 2 months ago that I found a fix, but have been so sidetracked by one stuff that I just didn't get around to it. So I appreciate your work, but I can add shots from the DVDs of Seasons 1-3 now, which is why I'd prefer if you did Season 4, which I actually can't do. -MT2008 23:00, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
- So you mean Season 4 doesn't have any more modern M16 variants, either? Well, it kinda figures. If you check out the page for House of Saddam (made by the BBC), that mini-series shows American soldiers using old M16A1s with 20-round magazines...and this is during scenes taking place during the 2003-present Iraq War!
- Also, can please you please do the following for Ultimate Force:
- Make sure that all gun entries that you've added have pictures of the weapons.
- Make sure that all gun entires you've added link to the weapons page.
- Make sure you images are the same thumbnail size as mine (some of yours are too big).
- Remember, make it look professional. Thanks. -MT2008 20:16, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
Help on Alex Reid
I have a bunch of screencaps of British Actress Alex Reid using or holding guns in other films and was going to create an actor page for her. But I have never seen Ultimate Force. Does she, playing the character Captain Caroline Walshe, use any guns in the show Ultimate Force?MoviePropMaster2008 20:12, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
Alex Reid
Thanks so much on helping with Alex Reid! :) I screencapped her movie "Arachnid" and are just preparing the images for upload and wanted to make an ACTOR page for her. MoviePropMaster2008 08:08, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
Ultimate Force
BTW, you're doing a great job on U.F.! I've never even heard of this show and you have a lot of great screengrabs. It makes US viewers want to go out and buy the DVD set and check it out. Bravo. MoviePropMaster2008 18:14, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
- AHEM* I must remind you again that while I appreciate the help, please make sure you're adding gun pictures and LINKS to the gun pages. You're an admin. That means you're supposed to set an example for other users. -MT2008 19:41, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
- It's fine if you think I made the screencaps too small at 500. If you want to make them bigger, cool...just make sure that you make ALL of them the size. It looks sloppy if you have some that are 500px and others that are 600px, no?
- Also, by how this show portrays the U.S. - I'm guessing you mean as fat and incompetent? I haven't seen Season 4 yet, but I read a review of the show which mentioned this. -MT2008 20:45, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
- hot heads, arrogant, and cowboys...Oh yeah, one of them is a racist
- Ah, OK, figures. Though to be fair, it doesn't sound like they portrayed us quite as badly as they portrayed the Russians in the Season 3 finale (REALLY incompetent, cowardly, and unreliable). As far as racist goes, reminds me of "Never Go Back" where one of the Rhodesians is a racist who calls his sister a "whore" for liking Dave...
- I may have to check out Season 4 out of morbid curiosity. But I expect it's gonna suck as badly as Season 3 did...I just liked the show so much better when it was at least a little more realistic, and when it still had Caroline and Pete and Jamie. -MT2008 03:51, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
- Honestly, I'm not sure about any of them, besides the revolver, which I think might be a Smith & Wesson 686. -MT2008 18:10, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
Out of town starting late tonight
Am going on location and meeting with a director and television executive for the standard business stuff, but I will be traveling between midnight tonight and Tuesday, so I will be offline until then. So if I don't answer a question right away, it's because I'm in a meeting or on location. Thanks. best regards MoviePropMaster2008 01:48, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
