==About==
So I accidentally clicked the "About imfdb :. guns in movies :. movie guns :. the internet movie firearms database" link at the bottom of every page, only to discover that it's a dead link. Can you restore it? Even if the wording has to be worked out, something is better than nothing. --[[User:Funkychinaman|Funkychinaman]] 19:15, 23 July 2012 (CDT)

gun brand pages

Looks good, the H&K logo looks a bit big. Good luck with Smith & Wesson! --Predator20 23:36, 23 December 2011 (CST)

Thank you for the reply, and sorry I misjudged you (to be honest, I didn't notice the discussion, so I did think you were some foolish n00b who was changing things without consulting admins). I thought that I was simply upholding a decision that the rest of the staff had agreed to a long time ago. At the very least, I guess we should discuss the matter again in the topic - and clearly, the forum's not such a good place, since we have too many problems with spammers. And Happy Holidays to you, too. -MT2008 10:01, 24 December 2011 (CST)
Looks good. I'm a mod here. I really like the Colt page. The S&W page is going to be an intensive piece of labor for you. I agree with bunni. We need a category for these new pages. --Jcordell 16:30, 27 December 2011 (CST)

I've been collecting S&W revolvers for several years. S&W has always been a very organized company with outstanding records. Better organized company in so many aspects. In the past couple of years I've gotten into Colt revolvers and I've learned that getting information about the various Colt handguns is very challenging. For most of it's history Colt was rather scatter-shot in it's approach. For example they would have different models use the same serial number range (Official Police and .38 spl Officer Model Target pre-WWII), but the Pre-WWII Officer Model Target .22LR had it's own serial numbers. Why? Who knows? Other models (such as the Theur derringer) would be made for decades and Colt has little to no written records about the models. For example the serial numbers will not tell you what year an individual derringer was made. And then you have the Official Police model and it's variants. Over 700,000 made over a seventy year period. Very challenging. I like the colt double action revolvers, but I can see why colt has almost gone out of business and S&W is still prospering. Hopefully Colt's fairly new management can fix things. --Jcordell 17:37, 27 December 2011 (CST)

No I'm sorry. Not as knowledgable about Taurus. But I do have a couple books that might be helpful. I'll look through them.--Jcordell 19:00, 19 January 2012 (CST)

Once again you're doing good work tackling the pages that the rest of us just lack the energy for. Such as the page for the S&W 27/28. Looks good. --Jcordell 10:40, 7 February 2012 (CST)

Call of Duty MW3

Done --phoenixent 18:11, 4 June 2012 (CDT)

Did the change to Dark Knight and EvilTim did James Bond. --Steve
I like your templates a lot as it cleans up the page. How does that work for a TV series with multiple seasons? --Steve
Hey Zack.. That template for CSI looks real good. I think you have another winner with the TV seasons.--Steve

The gun manufacturers template is cool except when you get into clones like the M16 series, 1911 Pistols, Colt SAA Revolvers and others. Not sure how to worked that problem as it is a large one.--Steve

1911 categories

I think these pages are turning out well, good job. One modification that I would suggest though (for both the pages and the template) is reversing the order of the categories. I think the "Standard" guns should really go first because, as the name implies, they are the standard gun and are also probably the most common. I would put the order as "Standard", "Long", "Compact", "Subcompact". Also, I'm not sure about how the Colt variants are categorised on the template. I think they should just be split on size like the other manufacturers for a few reasons. First, it would then be a standard and look better. Secondly, the modern thing is kind of screwed up, with the 80 Combat Elite being from the same time as the regular series 80, and the National Match going back to the Series 70 guns. Also the Military/Governemnt differentiation seems a bit pointless to me, as I would imaging that most of the guns that actually appear in media are based on the civillian guns and the majority of the M1911A1 ID's are actually wrong. To be honest, I think there is a case that the M1919A1, Government and Series 70 sections could probably be merged, as they are the same gun with no visible external differences unless you get a really good look at the markings. --commando552 16:11, 16 June 2012 (CDT)

Re:Redirects

Yes, I understand. I'll follow your recommendations. Thanks! Greg-Z 10:17, 22 June 2012 (CDT)

Wrong Turn

I wouldn't spend any more time working on a template for that series as the user you started these pages doesn't seem to want to put any more effort into it. --Ben41 20:38, 22 June 2012 (CDT)

Re:AK

Hi. It depends on what kind of page are you working on. I know some stuff about original Russian AK's. Will try to help of course. - bozitojugg3rn4ut 01:41, 24 June 2012 (CDT)

So how you want to do this template? Include only true AK-pattern guns (like on wikipedia), or include guns like the VSS too, which only look like AK variants, but in reality have nothing to do with that design? --bozitojugg3rn4ut 14:06, 26 June 2012 (CDT)

I would separate them along similar lines as the AK gallers, with "Soviet manufactured Kalashnikov pattern firearms" "Foreign manufactured Kalashnikov pattern firearms" "Firearms derived from the Kalashnikov" and "Firearms visually resembling the Kalashnikov". First section would be the russian weapons, separated into assault rifles, carbines, machine guns and sniper rifles. Then next section would be split up by country. Not sure whether to split each section by weapon type or not, would need to play it by ear depending on how many you were ending up with. If not splitting by type, could put the weapon type in brackets after the name. It gets a bit tricky when you get into AK derived, and visually resembling the AK as there can be a fine line. For example, the I would put the SVD in the visually similar, as it shares no parts with the AK and has a different operating system. However the visually similar FPK/PSL is derived from the RPK, so would go in the AK derivatives section. Stuff like the Valmet (and hence the Galil and Vektor rifles) would go in the derivatives section, as although not of the AK pattern they are a modification to the design. But that's just my opinion on how it should be broken down. --commando552 15:23, 26 June 2012 (CDT)

Congrats!

I see you already started clearing out the delete bin. --Funkychinaman 13:28, 26 June 2012 (CDT)

Congrats as well! Now you can have a good time deleting spambots! --Ben41 01:31, 27 June 2012 (CDT)

Abe and ARs

Yes, it did, but I think it sort of sets a bad precedent for some new user to start a page with one line as his first edit and have the rest of us build it unto a full page. (It was literally one line.) But oh well, what's done is done. As for the templates, I have to admit, I'm not sure I know what I'm doing with them. I added Barry Nelson to the James Bond template over the weekend, but that took a lot of copying and pasting and trial and error. --Funkychinaman 13:32, 26 June 2012 (CDT)

I'll add it if I come across it. I'm sweeping across the site right now, looking for bad pages and killing dead actors. --Funkychinaman 13:43, 26 June 2012 (CDT)
You think I should? The people here seem to love zombies. --Funkychinaman 13:49, 26 June 2012 (CDT)

Congrats

Remember with great power comes great power. Wait, I don't think that's it.

Also I'd have called that maintainance script Gunbot or Tank, personally. Evil Tim 14:36, 26 June 2012 (CDT)

Generic placeholder

Hmmm, let me brainstorm a bit. --Funkychinaman 20:53, 26 June 2012 (CDT)

Congrats and can you delete these?

Congratulations on becoming admin and Ive seen that you were clearing out the delete bin so I was wondering if you could delete the pictures I uploaded a while ago you can find them on my Contributions page. Thanks. Mr.Ice 14:05, 27 June 2012 (CDT)

The Nosferatu page

Hi there, I was the creator of the Nosferatu: The Wrath of Malachi page. I noticed that you recently nuked it and left a note saying "Creator refuses to finish . . . " I haven't abandoned the IMFDB by any means, but have been busy with real life thus far. Maybe you could tell me what specifically was wrong with it? Last I worked on the page, it was essentially complete by the IMFDB standards of the time. Have they drastically changed in the meantime? --Mazryonh 01:13, 28 June 2012 (CDT)

Sure, if you tell me what's missing. I do not currently have access to the game disc right now, but at last count the page was, in my view, essentially finished--all the ingame weapons had both 3rd-person and 1st Person views, and had (where possible) references to the real-life weapons they were based on. What's missing from the page according to the IMFDB standards now? --Mazryonh 03:39, 28 June 2012 (CDT)

"Not getting pissed?" Thankfully, not everyone is subject to the online disinhibition effect. Courtesy and civility cost absolutely nothing to produce, have, or give, so why not give generously until you have good reason to do otherwise? And as for the weapons, what were you expecting, a stake launcher? The game is (as I outlined in the wiki entry's introduction) an out-and-out homage to the silent film Nosferatu, and like its parent novel Dracula, the game's weaponry is based around those used by old-fashioned vampire hunters before they became modern pop culture icons (like Constantine, Van Helsing, and Hellsing). The 4 firearms already listed are the only ones in the game, and you can confirm this by checking out an FAQ for the game or a video walkthrough. The rest of the ingame weapons are religious paraphernalia or melee weaponry, such as a Crucifix, a totally overpowered Holy Water Chalice (which you can refill by blessing a tub of water with your Crucifix), a Cane Sword, and your character's own two fists. Call it the limitations of a budget title if you want, but I think this helps to maintain the authenticity of the "old-fashioned" nature of the title, right down to the old-fashioned film grain effect and "film scratches" you can sometimes see.

As for putting photos of the actual guns in this wiki entry, there is a small problem with that. While there is an entry for generic Flintlock Pistols I could select a photo from, there is no equivalent entry for generic Flintlock Muskets, and the ingame one doesn't look like any of those musket entries already on the site. Could a disambiguation page that listed all the musket variants be created? Is there anything else on the laundry list of things that need to be done for this game's wiki page?

In the future, you could always do the courtesy of contacting the creators of small "niche pages" with obvious effort put into them before resorting to the nuke. After all, courtesy costs nothing. --Mazryonh 23:29, 29 June 2012 (CDT)

RSP

Maybe you should clarify that reality television is in the same boat as documentaries? --Funkychinaman 09:13, 28 June 2012 (CDT)

Looks good. (And I call dibs on slapping the nuke tag on any future Jersey Shore pages!) --Funkychinaman 10:41, 28 June 2012 (CDT)

CZ 40, 97 etc.

But surely appear. Great future is for this weapon! Otherwise - CZ products i´m complemented and there is need this types.--Pandolfini 20:02, 28 June 2012 (CDT) The text is just a selection of several books, nothing is there does not even start of production. Like I said - i want only CZ products supplementary to the database, nothing more. I originally took the view that the Kajínek used CZ 40 and not CZ Pre75 . So we'll see. CZ 97 certainly somewhere there is, just poorly defined or does not know just because it's missing. This often happens to me - i looking for a gun and find in catalog of proucts (Smit&Wesso, CZ, Mauser rifles etc.) or cathegory (submachine guns, pistols etc.)--Pandolfini 20:17, 28 June 2012 (CDT) "A gun must appear in something before it gets a page!" Here - CZ And what product catalog of products company? After all serves to navigate and search, it does not count?--Pandolfini 20:23, 28 June 2012 (CDT) So this means that even in categories is not listed weapons which were not in the movie or game? So that means in practice that to appear, so it will have to laboriously re-do. Plus We ascribe the extra the lost hour of work today due to the technicality that resulted from a irationaly reasons. Or no?--Pandolfini 20:32, 28 June 2012 (CDT) Me was so weird was that when I first needed a CZ 38 for movie Atentát, i were cannot find this gun here, because were missing. I could not understand such a failure. Now I understand - this was and is due to imperfect standards.--Pandolfini 21:02, 28 June 2012 (CDT) I found the passage where it was and I know error and how it is done correctly. Thank you.--Pandolfini 01:46, 29 June 2012 (CDT)

Templates

I was going to ask you about that. The AR template is going to be huge, and would take up most of the space on the smaller AR entries. --Funkychinaman 09:58, 29 June 2012 (CDT)

the next if kin page

yes i was planning to do that page but i need the names of the guns that was used in the film if you can sir. --Boo2795 12:06, 29 June 2012 (CDT)

They Walk deleted?

Why was the They Walk page deleted? It definitely had pictures as I identified and made a page for the Chiappa Double Eagle Derringer based on the markings on the gun. It had identifiable guns listed and at least some pictures (can't remember anything about the page, just that I ID'd that gun), so I would have though an "Incomplete" tag would be more suitable. Or is it inelligible for some other reason? --commando552 14:16, 29 June 2012 (CDT)

thank you

thank u for helping me out. i will type in that information. u can put the images on it --Boo2795 23:59, 29 June 2012 (CDT)

Rumor of War

This film is not on DVD yet, so I'm looking for a suitable VHS copy to transfer. If I've started a page, I'm going to finish it. Please check the author of the page before deleting. --Ben41 17:49, 3 July 2012 (CDT)

deleting files

make sure the images which are obviously personal snapshots of members own guns (not the professional pics that I take but backyard stuff) is NOT being used in the forums before you delete them. Though I don't do it, other members (including other Mods like MT2008 and Bunni) uploaded personal gun pics for use in their profiles and on some of the forum threads. This is allowed and doesn't happen very often. But if the pic only appears in the forum, it WON'T appear as being used on the IMFDB site itself. That is why I never deleted obviously personal gun pics because 99% of them are used in the member's profile pages on the forums or in forum threads. MoviePropMaster2008

Pistols

I had previously done some cleanup on the page. I'll take a look again. --Funkychinaman 20:37, 8 July 2012 (CDT)

Blanks cells

Sorry. I always doing only this where the dots are, where not, i had been doing so for this to be the same - without dots. I deliberately not doing anywhere.--Pandolfini 18:36, 10 July 2012 (CDT) I see. I understand. I has copy the entire row above it and now changing only the data. Empty cells contain therefore the same as the surrounding rows, which i copy. --Pandolfini 18:42, 10 July 2012 (CDT)

RE: Dino

Yah, I thought the pics might've been to large, but it was getting late. And also yah I wasn't sure about the headers, thanks for that, I'll be sure to fix that when I can. For PowerSlave, eh, haven't had the time. Yah probably leave it down for now, I might try to revive it fuller and more complete in the future, thanks. --Clonehunter 09:36, 13 July 2012 (CDT)

  • Eh, I guess I wasn't entirely sure then what you meant, sorry. Though, should I go back and enlarge them? Imo, it looks a bit tidier with the smaller screenshots, but I can change it back. --Clonehunter 12:24, 13 July 2012 (CDT)

Ussaro Mod 1786

I can not do table, cause if I want to create a new article, so I copy the existing post and paste only new data. Here too is missing the table - Charleville Musket--Pandolfini 13:55, 14 July 2012 (CDT) Next time it will. I ´am first time took the view that the weapons that are rare, is the intent a list - sorry for this :)--Pandolfini 14:29, 14 July 2012 (CDT)

Edits

Sorry. I was trying to think about how to reply properly. I was never using a bot (although I will understand if you don't believe me). I was making edits without thinking. I don't think that excuses my behavior and I definitely deserved to be banned. I am sorry for causing problems for you and the other admins. Edit: By "bot" I meant "script". --Cheywoodward2 14:58, 15 July 2012 (CDT)

Deleted file "Remington rollmark.jpg"

Recently you have deleted the file "File:Remington rollmark.jpg" as unused. But it was used on the The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor page. If this image isn't needed on the page then the dead link better be deleted too, but if it is needed then the file need to be undeleted. What is your opinion? Thanks in advance. Greg-Z 11:05, 18 July 2012 (CDT)

Re: Van tu

These pages are, at least, Sahara (1995), When Trumpets Fade and Lucky Luke. I returned decimal points on these pages. Maybe the same thing can be on other pages. Greg-Z 09:17, 19 July 2012 (CDT)

I've been keeping track of his decimal issue. Basically, almost every page he ever worked on. It tailed off for a bit, so I thought he actually read his messages, but I guess I was wrong. --Funkychinaman 11:53, 19 July 2012 (CDT)
Based on his usual posting times and his preference in movies, I'm guessing that Van Tu is somewhere in Asia. I don't think a two hour ban would affect him. He won't be back until early morning anyway. --Funkychinaman 12:43, 19 July 2012 (CDT)

Now we see Djnh djnh doing same things (Sahara (1995)‎, The Marine 2). Greg-Z 03:16, 20 July 2012 (CDT)

He hasn't learned a thing. Maybe permanent bans his two alter egos? Abusing multiple accounts is grounds for banning anyway. --Funkychinaman 06:45, 20 July 2012 (CDT)

Re: The Forum

See thats the thing I have already signed up for the forum but every time I try to start a new thread the site tells me "Mr.Ice, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?

2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation." I've been waiting for the activation for a few weeks and there is nothing. I'm not sure whats wrong. Mr.Ice 11:28, 19 July 2012 (CDT)

Redirects

It makes sense to me, but it may be a bit over the heads of new users. When I first came on, I don't think I would've understood. Redirects are certainly nice, and are preferred, and users certainly shouldn't swap them out for long links like Heartbreakkid (or whatever his name was) did, but it does seem like a lot for a new user to absorb. Maybe we should just say that redirects are preferred. There's enough of us old-timers who can fix them for noobs as they come. --Funkychinaman 17:22, 19 July 2012 (CDT)

Periods

Don't get me wrong, I totally agree. That was a mistake, and I undid my changes. And he has a third account, Leave me alone or something? (Found it: leavemealone)--Funkychinaman 08:43, 20 July 2012 (CDT)

Michael myers just took out some decimals in Saints and Soldiers. The name, the MO, the timing, seem to match. --Funkychinaman 01:40, 23 July 2012 (CDT)
And visiting his old haunts. At least he's making it easy. --Funkychinaman 02:10, 23 July 2012 (CDT)
You're right, for the most part, his edits are useful. But he's been asked about the decimals three times. Can he just be ignoring his messages? And you'd think after seeing his previous logins banned, he might look into his messages. I don't think it's a case of him just not seeing them. It's more likely he saw them and is just ignoring them. I'll keep an eye out. Thanks. --Funkychinaman 12:27, 23 July 2012 (CDT)

Automatic User Messages

While it's a good sentiment, it might not be a good idea to make that automatic message for new users as the majority appear to be spambots and now there's an additional page I have to delete. --Ben41 05:07, 23 July 2012 (CDT)

Incomplete canging to NUKE

I noticed that on your to do list you have the idea to automatically change incomplete tags to nuke after x number of days. If you are still intending on doing this, can I suggest that it might be more suitable to replace the no effort tag with the nuke after a time period. A page can have the incomplete tag if there are screen caps missing for a few guns but that doesn't mean it deserves to be nuked. The no effort tag should have a time limit though as it is used on pages that do not currently meet the minimum standard. --commando552 15:26, 23 July 2012 (CDT)
