The Smith & Wesson M&P is a short-recoil operated, locked breech semi-automatic pistol. Designed in 2005 for use by police departments and other forces, it is currently in use by over 500 police departments across the US, and many in Australia, Canada, and Iraq. It comes in 9x19mm, .45ACP, .40S&W, and .357 Sig, with a 5 inch, 4 inch, or 3.5 inch barrel. Not to be confused with the Smith & Wesson Military & Police Revolver, which eventually became the Classic Model 10.
