Vietcong is a tactical first-person shooter video game (Pterodon & Illusion Softworks). It was released in March 2003, and set during the Vietnam War. It is both single and multi user platform and is PC based.
The following list contains all the weapons that can be used in the original Vietcong and its expansion pack, Fist Alpha:
Handguns
Colt M1911A1
Standard U.S. pistol since World War 1. Rare see it used by U.S. Army soldiers in single player but is the most common equipment in U.S. multiplayer classes.
.38 Revolver
Described into the game as a Chinese copy of some Colt revolver (probably a Model 10). Is the main handgun of the Viet Cong; particularly prevalent in the tunnel levels, is quite accurate but slow to reload (though speedloaders appear to be used). In multiplayer mode, it is used by the "Medic" class on both teams.
Reload operation.
Smith & Wesson Mark 22 Model 0 (S&W 39)
Seen with silencer, and called thew "Hush Puppy", in game it shares the .45ACP ammunition of the M1911A1 instead of the correct 9x19 NATO. It is used by U.S. Special Forces and is the primary pistol used in the Tunnel Rat mission.
Tokarev TT-33 (Tokarev)
Standard siderarm of the North Vietnam Army along with the Chinese copy (Type 54). Rare in the single player campaign, in "Fist Alpha" it is more common. It is also is a standard weapon for the "Fighter" and "Sapper" VietCong classes in multiplayer.
Makarov PM (Makarov)
Another Soviet pistol. Instead of a realistic 8 round clip, in game this pistol has a 9 round clip. Like the TT-33, the Makarov is rare in single player, in multiplayer is used by the "Machinegunner", "Sniper" and "Radioman" classes. Both Soviet and Chinese (Type 59) models are used.
Submachine Guns
M3 / M3A1 "Grease Gun" (M3)
U.S. machine pistol. The recoil (in game) drive the muzzle down instead of up. The M3 was not often issued to US forces (except for armoured vehicle and aircraft crews). However, it was used extensively by the South Vietnamese, especially irregular troops like the Civic Guard. US Marines, and US Army special forces also used it.
The M3 is rare in the game. In the single player campaign is often used by Local VietCong fighters. in Multiplayer can be choosed by US soldier and radioman. The M3 shares the same ammunition of the Thompson.
M1A1 Thompson (M1 Thompson)
U.S. main submachine gun, the first selecteble automatic weapon, widely used by US soldiers in single player campaign. Its main characteristics are the high fire rate, good stopping power and the short reload time.
Sten Mk. IIS
This is a suppressed version of the British World War II Sten submachine gun. It is available in the Fist Alpha expansion.
Samopal Vzor 1961 or SA Vz.61 (Skorpion)
A compact Checkoslovakian weapon with an high fire rate and easily controllable in full auto long burst, due the reaction of the 7.65x17mm Browning cartridge. Available in the Fist Alpha expansion.
Note: the name "Skorpion" or "Scorpion" was created only as after-market term used after the '90 to indicate both the SA 361 machine pistol and the SA 91s civilian pistol
PPS-43
Soviet machine pistol, common along all the campaign. It has a curved magazine with a capacity of 35 7.62x25mm Tokarev rounds. In multiplayer is the VietCong's common primary weapon along with the AK-47. The Chinese copy is designated Type 54.
PPSh-41
Soviet sub-machinegun loaded with 71 round drum magazine, share the same ammunition of the PPS-43. Used mainly by VietCong, but sometime can be seen also used by NVA officer. The Chinese copy is designated Type 50.
Rifles
Winchester M1, (M1 Carbine)
Widely used by ARVN soldiers and sometimes by Viet Cong fighters, fitted with a detacheble bayonet.
Colt M16 (M16)
Standard U.S. Army assault rifle, fitted with a detacheble M7 knife bayonet. Probably the best and most used weapon in game. In game this rifle uses 20 round magazines loaded with 18 rounds (N.B. loading a magazine with two rounds less than standard capacity is a trick often used by troops to reduce magazine-related malfunctions).
Springfield Armory M14 (M-14 Rifle)
The M-14 is available only in the Fist Alpha expansion. The M-14 can also fitted with an ART optical sight and used by U.S. Army snipers.
Springfield Armory M1D (M1 Garand)
The scoped M1D variant is the standard U.S. Army sniper rifle in the original game
Winchester Model 70
A .30'06 caliber bolt-action hunting rifle, depicted in game without scope. In the Vietnam War this rifle was often used by U.S. Army and US Marine Corp snipers (like the legendary Carlos N. Hathcock).
Simonov SKS-45 (SKS rifle)
Soviet battle rifle with non-detacheble 10 round magazine. The SKS can be reloaded only when empty. Fitted with an integral under-barrel folding spike bayonet. Used by VietCong fighter and North Vietnam Army (NVA) soldier.
Note Bayonet can use in Vietcong Fist Alpha.
Reloading operation.
Kalashnikov AK-47 (AK-47)
The standard Soviet assault rifle, used by Main Force Viet Cong fighters and NVA soldiers. The version seen in game is the original version with milled receiver, equipped with a detacheble AK-47 Type 1 knife bayonet and magazine loaded with only 28 rounds instead of the normal 30 rounds. In the conflict the Vietnamese forces used it aside the slightly more modern AKM and the Chinese Type 56.
Tokarev AVT-40 (Tokarev SVT-40)
Available only in Fist Alpha expansion, also fitted with a PU optical sight and used by Regional Vietcong snipers. Strangely is equipped with a 20 round magazine and it had the capability to fire in full automatic mode, more likely an AVT-40.
Mosin Nagant 1938 Carbine (Mosin Nagant)
WW2 military bolt-action rifle, used by Local VietCong snipers and fighters.
Bolt action operation.
Reload operation.
Dragunov SVD-63 (SVD Dragunov)
Soviet-made designated marksman rifle, fitted with a PSO-1 4x optcal sight and a detacheble AKM Type 1 knife bayonette. Rare to see in Single player, is "normally" is used by NVA snipers, but it is possible to see it used by an ARVN marksman during the "Hamburger Hill" mission. Heavy damage, rapid fire capability and high precision made this rifle one of the most deadly weapons of the game.
Note Bayonet can use in Vietcong Fist Alpha.
Machine Guns
Saco Defence M60 (M60)
U.S. General Purpose Machine Gun is also called "the hog". The only U.S. portable Machine Gun, it's heavy and affected by a wild recoil also is the main weapon of the Sergeant First Class C.J. Hornster. All the models see in game have bipod and front-sight removed. It is possible use it also as a support-mounted weapon in some levels.
Degtyarev DP-28 (DP-2)
World War II-era Soviet drum-fed light machinegun added in "Fist Alpha", with great accuracy problem and heavy recoil. Used only by Local VietCong units.
Degtyarev RPD (Degtyarev)
Soviet and Chinese made light machine gun. It is often used by the VC and NVA. It is more accurate than the M60. Sometimes the mission objectives includes the silent elimination of vietnamese machinegunners on elevate positions, before an assault. The RPD is belt-fed, not drum fed. The belt is looped inside the drum for easier carriage.
Vzor 37 or Zbrojovka Brno 53 (ZB37)
Checkoslovakian medium machinegun mounted on tripod. Used by Regional VietCong in "Fist Alpha".
Browning M2HB
U.S. heavy machinegun, mounted on the M151 Jeep, UH-1 Huey and at bunkers)
Other Weapons
Remington 870
One of most famous pump-action shotguns in the world. The version in game had a 7 cartridge magazine but alike the models used in Vietnam the stock and the forehand built in plastic instead of the normal wood. In the SP Campaign is often used by the ARVN pointman Sgt. Le Duy Nhut. In multiplayer is deadly at short distance but in great areas and on long distance may be unuseful.
Baikal IZH-43
A Russian double-barrelled side-by-side hunting shotgun, can fire with one shot per time or both together. Rare in single player, and likely the U.S. counterpart, in multiplayer is used only in close combat or for a "personal challange" (due its short range, the small "clip" and the long reload time it's not so easy to use)
M26 (Grenade)
A U.S. fragmentation grenade, copied by many NATO Countries. The real grenade have different shape, longer than the game one.
Chicom Type 67 Stick Grenade (VC Grenade)
A Chinese stick hand grenade, widely imported and used by VietCong and NVA.
Springfield Armory M79
A top-break single-shot grenade launcher. Used to cover the intermediate distance between the hand grenade and light mortar ranges. Useable only in single player and in very few missions.
Booby Trap
Improvised mines, or punji traps used by Viet Cong to kill or harass U.S., ARVN, South Korean and Australian troops. Common types in the game include camouflaged pits containing punji stakes, and grenades in cans attached to trip wires (the pin is removed from the grenade, and the delay fuze is removed, when the trip wire is crossed, the grenade comes out of the can, the safety lever comes away, and the grenade detonates instantly).
In single player they can be deactivated by cutting their activation wire. In multiplayer only "Engineer" or "Sapper" class they can be placed as a booby traps. It is impossible to deactivate them, but they can be blown up by shooting them.
M18A1 Claymore
A U.S. remote controlled mine.It had a short burst radius. In the game it is used only in multiplayer by "Engineer" or "Sapper" class.

Map
Mission map can used in single mission and mutilplayer mode (presumably the artillery is the M1A1 105mm Howitzer, the M114 155mm Howitzer, or the M109 155mm self Propelled Howitzer). It's not a true firearm but can be used to call the the artillery fire in some single player mission. In multiplayer all classes are equipped with a map, but only the radioman are allowed to call the support firing.
