The film stars Pat O'Brien as swaggering Chicago Tribune reporter Hildebrand "Hildy" Johnson and Adolphe Menjou as his editor, Walter Burns. It would be remade in 1940 as His Girl Friday with Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell and in 1974 as The Front Page with Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau.
