The Front Page (1931)

The Front Page is an American Pre-Code screwball comedy adapted from Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur's popular Broadway play that drew on their experience as reporters in Chicago. The film stars Pat O'Brien as swaggering Chicago Tribune reporter Hildebrand "Hildy" Johnson and Adolphe Menjou as his editor, Walter Burns. It would be remade in 1940 as His Girl Friday with Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell and in 1974 as The Front Page with Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau.

Smith & Wesson 44 Hand Ejector, 2nd Model
Sheriff Peter B. "Pinky" Hartman (Clarence Wilson), the ineffective sheriff of Cook County, Illinois, carries a large-framed revolver that appears to be a Smith & Wesson .44 Hand Ejector, 2nd Model. He hands the revolver to the visiting "alienist" who, in turn, gives it to Earl Williams (George E. Stone) when asking him to reenact his crime. Williams takes it with him when he escapes, after which it is also handled by Hildy Johnson (Pat O'Brien) and Walter Burns (Adolphe Menjou) before it is returned to Sheriff Hartman.
Colt Official Police
One of Sheriff Hartman's deputies appears to be carry a Colt Official Police when searching for Earl Williams at the press office.
Unidentified Revolver
Another of Sheriff Hartman's deputies carries an unidentified revolver when confronting Earl Williams.
