The Defeated is a German-Canadian television series directed by Måns Mårlind and starring Taylor Kitsch as U.S. police officer Max McLaughlin and Nina Hoss as German chief inspector and studied semiologist, Elsie Garten. Berlin in 1946: U.S. policeman Max McLaughlin arrives in the American occupation zone to help establish a police force in the war-torn city. McLaughlin is assisted by the German policewoman Elsie. During their work, the two must put a stop to the underworld figure "Engelmacher", who has taken power and organized crime in the turmoil after the war.
