The Werndl Rifle is a series of Austro-Hungarian single shot, breech-loading battle rifles, designed by Josef Werndl. The first model, the M1867 (also known as Werndl–Holub), replaced the outdated infantry Lorenz M1854 rifle. It was followed by the improved M1873 which in turn followed by the modified M1873/77, which uses a more powerful cartridge. Most models were manufactured in several versions, including an infantry rifle, short rifle, and carbine.
