He is best known for his portrayal of tough-guy, criminal characters, and has starred in films such as Once Upon a Time in America (1984), Raising Arizona (1987), Dick Tracy (1990), and Gotti (1996); as real-life mobster "Sammy The Bull" Gravano. He played a renegade soldier in the Neo-western action thriller Extreme Prejudice (1987), and Sheriff John Quincey Wydell in the black comedy horror The Devil's Rejects (2005).
