Narcos is a Netflix original crime drama series that examines the war on drugs as fought in the country of Colombia during the early 1990s. For the first two seasons, the series followed the rise and fall of notorious drug lord Pablo Escobar (Wagner Moura). While based on actual events, several composite characters and incidents were created for dramatic purposes. The series was created by Chris Brancato, Carlo Bernard and Doug Miro, and the initial two episodes of the first season were directed by executive producer José Padilha (Elite Squad and 2014's RoboCop). All episodes of the first season were released on August 28, 2015, on Netflix and the second season premiered on September 2, 2016 and the third on September 1, 2017.
