Sherlock Holmes is an American 1916 B&W silent movie directed by Arthur Berthelet and starring William Gillette as Sherlock Holmes and Edward Fielding as Dr. Watson. The movie is adapted from the 1899 stage play, which is in turn based on Arthur Conan Doyle stories "A Scandal in Bohemia", "The Final Problem", and "A Study in Scarlet".
