The B-movie was directed by Mark Goldblatt (a notable film editor who cut such films as Lethal Weapon and Terminator 2 ) and starred Dolph Lundgren as the vigilante Frank Castle. Despite the American setting, the production was entirely filmed in Sydney, Australia. The Punisher character would subsequently be re-adapted three more times: as feature films in 2004's The Punisher starring Thomas Jane , 2008's Punisher: War Zone starring Ray Stevenson , and then in 2016 in the Daredevil Netflix series , which featured Jon Bernthal as the character, who is now part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and in 2017 stars in his own standalone Netflix series .
