Revision as of 11:12, 13 March 2009
The following guns were used in the movie Shooter
Swagger naturally is right-handed. He shoots right until he is wounded in the RIGHT shoulder. Recoil from firearms hurts as it is. When you have a wounded shoulder, it REALLY hurts! Therefore, Swagger (a highly trained sniper) changes to left handed shooting (which Walberg naturally is) for the duration of the movie. There are certain times in the movie (namely the farm shootout) Swagger had to shoot right handed, in order to be tactically correct and keep most of his body undercover. He made two shots righthanded, he probably just sucked it up and took the pain. For the most part, Swagger shoots left handed because of a wounded right shoulder. When a tactical situation called for it, he shot right. But in the end, Bob Lee Swagger is right handed. The writers wrote in an injury to make things easier for Mark Walberg (a lefty) to protray. Easier to go with what you know. The Winchester
USMC M40A3 rifle
Swagger (Mark Wahlberg) engages several ground targets with his M40 sniper rifle to open Shooter. At least one of the enemy snipers in the mountain appears to have a M40A3 sniper rifle with an artic paint job.

Barrett M82
In the opening scenes of Shooter Swagger (Mark Wahlberg), on mission in Ethiopia, is seen firing both a Barrett M82 and a M40A3 sniper rifle. It is also used by Sanders to assassinate the Archbishop of Ethiopia. Even though this rifle is a semi-automatic in real life, in the movie, Swagger racks the charging handle between shots. This is most likely an unfortunate result of using a prop (blank firing replica) weapon instead of the real version of the same rifle, since the rest of the movie is fairly technically sound.(Ryan S. here. I was the weapons co-ordinator on this film. The Barrett used was a real one firing blanks. After multiple straffing runs by the helicopter and the amount of dust and crap floating in the air from all the explosions, the gun did malfunction a few times on multiple takes. Unfortuantely the way it was edited together made it seem like he was cocking it after every shot.)
- Ryan S? That's really you?
Yep its really me. :)

DShK
One of the targets Swagger snipes in the beginning of the film is seen on a DShK heavy machine gun mounted on the back of a truck.
[[Image:S-DShK.jpg|thumb|none|350px|A gunner gets sniped by Swagger while on a DShK heavy machine gun.]]
Real DShk converted to fire 50 caliber blanks not a Browning/DShk mock up.
Browning M2
In the Ethiopia sequence at the beginning of the film, several Browning M2s can be seen mounted on Humvees and enemy vehicles.
M29 81mm Mortar
Several M29 81mm Mortars can be seen being used to fire on Swagger's and Fenn's position in the beginning of the film.
AK Variant
Many of the enemy forces in the beginning of the film can be seen with some kind of AK-Variant.
M4A1
There are several appearences of M4A1s in the film, one with an M68 Close Combat Optic and M203 grenade launcher is seen being used by Donnie Fenn (Lane Garrison) to fire at a helicopter. They are also used by the mercenaries during the firefight on the ranch, one which is commandereed by Swagger, and one, possibly the same one taken from the ranch shootout, with a red dot optic and suppressor is used by Swagger at the end of the film to tie up loose ends in Senator Charles F. Meachum's (Ned Beatty) vacation house seen when he knocks the gas valve off the stove.

M203 Grenade Launcher
Donnie Fenn (Lane Garrison) has an M203 grenade launcher on his M4A1 in the beginning of the film which he uses to destroy an enemy vehicle while trying to fight off the helicopter.

Cheyenne Tactical M-200 Intervention
This hefty rifle fires the extremely ballistically efficient .408 Chey-Tac round. As a result, this rifle, with correctly manufactured ammunition, can be effectively used out to distances of approimately 1.5 miles. The rifle is usually used with a ballistic computer that calculates bullet trajectory based on atmospheric conditions but is shown by itself in the hands of Swagger, firing at a tin can and hitting it at a supposed 1 mile range (edit: although not visible in the still frames provided, during the movie scene a ballistic computer can be seen immediately to the actor's right of the weapon in the close shot of the trigger pull). While it is possible, one must realize that the average grouping for even the best rifle (the M-200 being high on that list) at this range will be approximately 20 inches at 2000 yards. Keeping that in mind, the scene was obviously used to showcase Swagger's supernatural ability to snipe. This is also the rifle used to frame Swagger, at the meeting with the Attorney General at the end of the film, Swagger proves his innocence by loading a round in the weapon (provided by Memphis) and attempts to fire, but the weapon only produces a harmless click. Swagger then explains that everytime he leaves his house he swaps the firing pins in his rifles with shorter ones, rendering the weapons unable to fire, thus proving that he didn't murder the Archbishop.

Remington Model 700PSS
A tactical police heavy barreled version of the Remington Model 700, the Model 700PSS was purchased by Bob Lee Swagger in the sportings goods store when he is on the run (having Memphis buy the rifle). Next it is used at the river scene were Swagger is training Special Agent Nick Memphis to shoot under pressure. Later it is used by Memphis to provide cover fire to Swagger as they infiltrate the ranch in Virginia. Finally it is used by Swagger in the mountain scene were he is taken into custody. The secret service snipers at the president's speech use these rifles as well.
[[Image:S-Remington.jpg |thumb|none|400px|Nick Memphis training to shoot while ignoring distractions with a Remington Model 700 at the river.]]
Glock 17
Police Officer Stanley Timmons (Alan C. Peterson) wounds Swagger (Mark Wahlberg) with a Glock 17. After being wounded Swagger (Mark Wahlberg) then strips a Glock 17 from young FBI Special Agent Nick Memphis (Michael Pena).
Remington Model 341
Upon leaving Sarah Fenn's (Kate Mara) home, Sarah gives Swagger (Mark Wahlberg) most likely a Remington Model 341 or a Springfield Model 86C which he later uses with a homemade silencer to kill Memphis' captors.
RPD machine gun
During the firefight at the ranch, two gunners in a helicopter can be seen firing RPD machine guns.(edited by the weapons co-ordinator of this film)
Double Barreled Shotgun
When we first see Senator Meachum (Ned Beatty), he can be seen skeet shooting with a Double Barreled Shotgun.
Colt M1911A1
Swagger (Mark Wahlberg) ties up loose ends with a M1911A1 at the end of the film. He uses the weapon to kill Louis Dobbler (Jonathan Walker), one of Colonel Johnson's (Danny Glover) bodyguards, and the corrupt Senator Meachum (Ned Beatty), after this he puts the handgun in a dead Colonel Johnson's hand before preceeding to knock the gas valve off the stove and destroy the senator's vacation house.
Heckler & Koch G36C
Colonel Johnson's (Danny Glover) two bodyguards at the end of the film carry Heckler & Koch G36Cs.
Heckler & Koch G36KE
Heckler & Koch G36KEs are carried by the four guards outside Sandor's (Rade Šerbedžija) hideout.
They are G36KEs (or G36KV) as identifiable by the Single-sight Carrying Handle.
The G36KE is the exported version of the G36K [The V is the new term], The standard G36K is only used in Germany, by the Bundeswehr and the Heer [National Guard and Army].
- Actually, the whole "K"/"KE" thing is kind of a moot point because the double-sighted carry handle is widely sold, so any G36 can be fitted with it. The only difference is that the Bundeswehr gets it for free, whereas other customers have to pay extra for it. -MT2008
Beretta 92FS
While Bobby Lee Swagger (Mark Wahlberg) is on the run, a police officer in the film pulls a Beretta 92FS on him when trying to arrest him, but Swagger disarms and knocks out the officer before he can. Swagger later confronts ex-sniper Michael Sandor (Rade Šerbedžija) with a Beretta 92FS.
Remington 870 Express
When Swagger (Mark Wahlberg) goes to Donnie's wife Sara Fenn (Kate Mara) for help, she can be seen with Remington 870 Express in the doorway to which Swagger mentions that it's too long to draw quickly before she lets him into the house. A sawed off Remington 870 Express is seen when Sarah shoots a intruder in her home before being captured by Jack Payne (Elias Koteas), it is unknown if this is a second shotgun or if Sarah cut the stock and barrel off the one from earlier (most likely the former since it is unlikely that she would cut down the stock, sand it smooth, contour it and re-stain and finish it). The Short shotgun is seen during the mountain scene when Payne has it taped to his hand and is using to hold Sarah hostage when he taunts Swagger by telling him he has no shot until Swagger fires a shot at Payne's hand, destroying the weapon and knicking a finger or two, Swagger then fires a second shot blowing Payne's arm off at the elbow.
SIG-Sauer P226
When Payne (Elias Koteas) captures Sarah (Kate Mara), he can be seen with a SIG-Sauer P226 fiited with a suppresser.
Walther P99
After Swagger (Mark Wahlberg) gets the information he needs out of Sandor (Rade Šerbedžija), Sandor grabs a Walther P99 from his bookshelf and commits suicide with it.
Taurus PT92
After Swagger (Mark Wahlberg) and Memphis (Michael Pena) rescue Sarah (Kate Mara), they make Senator Meachum (Ned Beatty) and the others at the exchange surrender and drop their weapons, they take a stainless steel Taurus PT92 with pearl grips off Senator Meachum and throw it on the ground near Sarah. Sarah then picks up the handgun and uses it to finish off a wounded Payne (Elias Koteas) before being relieved of it by Swagger. There is also a few goofs with this weapon such as slide locking back after only four shots when Sarah finishes off Payne despite the gun holding 15 rounds. And also, in the next shot after this, the slide isn't locked back.
