Death Race is the 2008 update of the 1975 cult film Death Race 2000. The film was directed by Paul W.S. Anderson and stars Jason Statham as a former race car driver who is sent to prison after being framed for the murder of his wife. While in prison, he is forced to replace a masked driver known as Frankenstein and participate in a sadistic race where the convicts drive their heavily armed vehicles in a fight for survival and for freedom. The film would spawn two DTV prequels: 2011's Death Race 2 and 2013's Death Race 3: Inferno.
The following weapons were used in the film Death Race (2008):
Non Race Weapons
M4A1
M4A1 Carbines fitted with Surefire lights, foregrips and ACOG sights are carried by Terminal Island corrections officers.
Heckler & Koch MP5A3
Heckler & Koch MP5A3 submachine guns equipped with red-dot sights can be seen in the hands of patrolling prison guards.
Beretta 92FS
Police officers who find Jensen Ames (Jason Statham) in his kitchen are seen with Beretta 92FS handguns.
Sawed off Double Barrel Shotgun
Warden Hennessey (Joan Allen) keeps this weapon under her desk attached to a spinning mount so she can aim it easily at whoever is standing in front of her. She does this when she told the guards to take Jensen's cuffs off..
Remington 870
A Remington 870 can be briefly seen in the beginning in the hands of a police officer seconds before the riot starts.
DShK Heavy Machine Gun
A DShK Heavy Machine Gun (most likely a mocked up Browning M2) can be seen manned by one of the guards in the prison garage.
Browning M2HB
Browning M2HB machine guns in a dual mount is seen in the guard tower at Terminal Island.
Advanced M26 Taser
Advanced M26 Tasers fitted with laser sights are used by Ulrich and another guard to stop the fight between Jensen Ames (Jason Statham) and Pachenko (Max Ryan).
ARWEN 37
What could possibly be a ARWEN 37 can be seen in the hands of the responding riot police.
DefTech Grenade Launcher
A DefTech 37mm Launcher can be seen in the hands of the responding riot police.
The Vehicles of Death Race
The following lists the armaments carried by the vehicles of Death Race:
Frankenstein: "The Monster" 2006 Ford Mustang GT
Jensen Ames (Jason Statham), aka "Frankenstein", drives a 2006 Ford Mustang GT known as "The Monster", and is armed with the following:
M134 Miniguns
The main offensive armament are twin M134 miniguns hood-mounted on the passenger side of "The Monster". Coach (Ian McShane) mentions that the miniguns are "30mm machine guns", but in reality the barrels reveal that they are the miniguns that fire 7.62mm rounds (he was probably meant to say .30 caliber machine guns).
MG42/MG3
During the opening race, the original Frankenstein (who was voiced by original cult film star David Carradine) armed "The Monster" with three bonnet-mounted MG42 machine guns. These were replaced by the dual miniguns after the Monster was destroyed by an RPG from Machine Gun Joe. Interestingly, the Monster is one of the lightest-armed vehicles in the movie.
Other
Smoke/Napalm tanks - "The Monster" carries smoke, oil and napalm tanks for defensive purposes. Fuel Tank - used very ingeniously by Jensen to get some guards off his tail. "The Tombstone" - Six-inch steel rear armor plate that, combined with high speed, becomes a useful projectile. It is also claimed that .50 caliber bullets could cut through it in seconds, which is highly unlikely, they'd more likely scratch it. Used by the original Frankenstein (David Carradine) in the first race and Jensen Ames at an attempt to take out Machine Gun Joe Mason (Tyrese Gibson) out of the final race.
"Machine Gun Joe" Mason 2004 Dodge RAM 4WD
Machine Gun Joe Mason (Tyrese Gibson) drives a 2004 Dodge RAM 4WD that is armed with the following:
M61 Vulcan
Two 20mm M61 Vulcan Gatling gun are side-mounted.
Browning M1919A4 Machine Guns
Four Browning M1919A4 Machine Guns are hood-mounted.
RPG-7
Six RPG-7 rocket launchers are roof-mounted for the final race. Lists (Frederick Koehler) mentions the launchers as "Model 7 Russian State Armory RPG's. Armor-piercing, self-arming, accurate at 2000 yards." In reality, the RPG has an accuracy of 45% at just 500 meters (546 yards).
Pachenko: 1966 Buick Riviera
Pachenko (Max Ryan) drives a 1966 Buick Riviera, which is armed with the following:
MG34 machine guns
Four MG34 machine guns are mounted on the hood.
PPSh-41
Dual PPSh-41 submachine guns are mounted on the hood's front.
Uzi
Twin Uzis are also mounted in the grill.
Browning M1919A4
What appears to be a Browning M1919A4 along with two other machine guns are mounted in the trunk.
14K: 1980 Porsche 911
14K (Robin Shou) drives a 1980 Porsche 911 that's fitted with the following weapons:
MG42
Dual MG42 machine guns are grill-mounted on the passenger's side.
Rocket launchers
Cluster of four rocket launchers are grill-mounted on the driver's side and four launchers are mounted where the rear window should be.
Travis Colt: 1989 Jaguar XJS
Travis Colt (Justin Mader) drives a 1989 Jaguar XJS that's armed with the following:
Browning M2HB
Dual Browning M2HB machine guns are hood-mounted. Colt's Jaguar is also one of the lightest-armed vehicles in the movie.
Grimm: 2006 Chrysler 300C
Grimm (Robert LaSardo) drives a 2006 Chrysler 300C that's armed with the following:
FN MAG machine gun
Three FN MAG machine guns are hood-mounted on the passenger's side.
Rocket launcher
A single rocket launcher is mounted just above the passenger door.
Carson: Pontiac Trans AM
Carson drives a Pontiac Trans AM that's armed with the following:
Browning M1919A4
A Browning M1919A4 machine gun fitted with spade grips and a turret shield is operated by his navigator.
M134 Minigun
A GE M134 Minigun is mounted in the rear for defensive purposes.
Riggins: Buick Riviera Boat tails
A Heavy Machinegun
Siad: BMW E32
Siad drives a BMW E3 that is armed with the following:
M134 Minigun
The entire passenger side of the BMW has been chopped off and replaced by a GE M134 Minigun fitted with a large slotted flash suppressor giving it a resemblance to a GAU-17/A (the flash suppressor is fake however, and is much longer than on a genuine GAU-17/A and appears to be fixed in place with the barrels rotating inside it).
"The Dreadnought" - Peterbilt 359 w / tanker trailer
"The Dreadnought" is a Peterbilt 359 semi with a tanker trailer attached. The Dreadnought is operated by prison security and is fitted with numerous firearms for offense and a large number of tank-style smoke grenade launchers, as well as a cow-catcher, armor-plating, wheel spikes and even spiked rear chains for defense.
Custom flamethrowers
Several custom twin flamethrowers are mounted on the Dreadnought, notably within the tanker trailer.
M134 Minigun
The Dreadnought also has a side-mounted M134 minigun.
Browning M2
Browning M2HB is seen in single and twin mounts throughout the Dreadnought.
M1 Abrams turret with a 105 mm main gun
Mounted in the rear is what resembles the turret of M1 Abrams tank with its 105mm main gun. This is actually a mock-up due to the size of the turret as well as the fact that the gun's fume extractor center is in line with the barrel rather than being offset towards the top.
Missile Launchers
Six cluster missile launchers are seen on the Dreadnought.
