Mississippi Burning is the 1988 drama directed by Alan Parker (Midnight Express) that presents a barely-disguised fictional account of the murders of three civil rights workers in Mississippi in the summer of 1964. The cast included Gene Hackman, Willem Dafoe, Francis McDormand, and Brad Dourif. FBI agents investigate the murders and run down the perpetrators in the face of hostility by local white bigots and fear from the African American community.
