Death Race is the 2008 update of the 1975 cult film Death Race 2000. The film was directed by Paul W.S. Anderson and stars Jason Statham as a former race car driver who is sent to prison after being framed for the murder of his wife. While in prison, he is forced to replace a masked driver known as Frankenstein and participate in a sadistic race where the convicts drive their heavily armed vehicles in a fight for survival and for freedom. A prequel, Death Race 2 was released in 2011.
DShK Heavy Machine Gun
A DShK Heavy Machine Gun (most likely a mocked up Browning M2) can be seen manned by one of the guards in the prison garage.
M4A1
M4A1 Carbines fitted with Surefire lights, foregrips and ACOG sights are carried by the guards of the Terminal Island.
Heckler & Koch MP5
The Heckler & Koch MP5 equipped with red-dot sights can be seen in the hands of patrolling prison guards.
Beretta 92FS
Police officers who find Jensen in his kitchen are seen with Beretta 92FS handguns.
Sawed off Double Barrel Shotgun
Warden Hennessey (Joan Allen) keeps this weapon under her desk attached to a spinning mount so she can aim it easily at whoever is standing in front of her. She does this when she told the guards to take Jensen's cuffs off..
Advanced M26 Taser
Advanced M26 Tasers fitted with laser sights are used by Ulrich and another guard to stop the fight between Jensen Ames (Jason Statham) & Pachenko (Max Ryan).
Remington 870
A Remington 870 can be briefly seen in the beginning in the hands of a police officer seconds before the riot starts.
ARWEN 37
What could possibly be a ARWEN 37 can be seen in the hands of the responding riot police.
DefTech Grenade Launcher
A DefTech 37mm Launcher can be seen in the hands of the responding riot police.
The Cars of "Death Race"
The following lists the armaments carried by the cars of "Death Race":
"The Monster" 2006 Ford Mustang GT
Driven by Jensen Ames (Jason Statham) as Frank.
- M134 Mini Guns
Twin M134 miniguns are hood-mounted on the passenger side of "The Monster". Coach (Ian McShane) mentions that they are "30mm machine guns", but in reality the barrels reveal that they are the miniguns that fire 7.62mm rounds. (They probably meant .30 caliber machine guns).
- MG42/MG3
Frank has three bonnet-mounted in the beginning of the movie. These were replaced by the dual miniguns after the Monster was destroyed by an RPG from Machine Gun Joe. Interestingly, the Monster is one of the lightest-armed vehicles in the movie.
- Fuel Tank
While technically not a gun, it is used very ingeniously by Ames to get some guards off his tail.
- "The Tombstone"
Six-inch steel rear armor plate that, combined with high speed, becomes a useful projectile. It is also claimed that .50 caliber bullets could cut through it in seconds, which is highly unlikely, they'd more likely scratch it. Used by the original Frankenstein (David Carradine) in the first race and Jensen Ames at an attempt to take out Machine Gun Joe Mason (Tyrese Gibson) out of the final race.
2004 Dodge RAM 4WD
Driven by Machine Gun Joe Mason (Tyrese Gibson)
- M61 Vulcan
Two are side-mounted on Machine Gun Joe Mason's (Tyrese Gibson) Dodge RAM.
- Browning M1919 Machine Guns
Four are hood-mounted
- RPG-7's
Six are roof-mounted for the final race. They are used to blast open the hole for their escape. Lists (Frederick Koehler) says they're "Model 7 Russian State Armory RPG's. Armor-piercing, self-arming, accurate at 2000 yards. This in truth is a lie since an RPG has a 45% of accuracy at 500 meters"
1966 Buick Riviera
Driven by Pachenko (Max Ryan)
- MG34 machine guns
Four MG34s are hood-mounted on Pachenko's (Max Ryan) car with two PPSh-41s on the radiator grill and twin Uzis in the grill. There also appears to be a barrel of some description coming out of the boot of the car, most likely a machine gun for defence.
1980 Porsche 911
Driven by 14K (Robin Shou)
- MG42/MG3
Has two grill-mounted on passenger's side.
- Rocket launcher
Cluster of four grill-mounted on driver's side. Two clusters of two where rear window should be.
1989 Jaguar XJS
Driven by Travis Colt (Justin Mader)
- Browning M2
Two are hood-mounted
2006 Chrysler 300C
Driven by Grimm (Robert LaSardo)
- FN MAG machine gun
Three are hood-mounted on passenger's side.
- Rocket launcher
Single above passenger door.
"The Dreadnought"
Driven by prison guards. This is a semi fitted with numerous firearms for offense and a cow-catcher, armor-plating, wheel spikes and even spiked rear chains for defense.
- Various flamethrowers
- Mini gun
- Browning M2
- Modified M 202 FLASH missile launchers(6 barrels instead of 4)
- Possibly an M1 Abrams turret with a 105 mm main gun(no pic)
Pontiac Trans AM
Driven by Carson, he has a roof mounted Browning M1919 fitted with turret shields and spade grips which is operated by his navigator and a rearward facing GE M134 Minigun for defense.
BMW E32
Driven by Siad, the BMW is also one of the lighter arms vehicles with a single GE M134 Minigun with a flash suppressor. The entire passenger side of the BMW has been chopped off and replaced by the Minigun.
