This is the page for the aircraft mounted 1930s Rheinmetall MG15 machine gun. For World War I light machine gun Bergmann MG 15nA see here.
The MG15 was a 7.92x57mm machine gun designed specifically as a hand manipulated defensive gun for combat aircraft during the early 1930s. By 1941 it was replaced by other types and found new uses with ground troops. It must be noted the MG15 was copied in Japan as the Type 98 flexible-mounted machine gun in aircraft and as the Type 1 machine gun in the Imperial Japanese Navy, but chambered in the 7.7x58mm Arisaka round. Otherwise this weapon is near-identical.
