Kar98k ? I think they look a bit too long for those and they seem to have straight bolt handles.
It's worth noting that all the soldiers, both German and Italian, armed with the MP40 still seem to have small rifle-ammunition pouches, which would not accomodate a magazine for an MP40.
Although not seen in the film (I think), both the Italian POW camp commandant and his second-in-command, and the German officer in charge of the prison train (travelling in the final coach) have small holsters for an automatic pistol - too small for a P08 or P38. It could actually be the same holster and waistbelt, although the Italians wear it with an extra diagonal brace, Sam Browne style. IKD
Italian Rifles
The Italian guards are shown with Mauser rifles, but would probably have been armed with any number of second-line weapons the Italians were notorious for foisting off on unsuspecting troops. These might have included 7.35mm M38s, old M91 long rifles, or even M91/38s like Lee Harvey Oswald used, both of the latter in 6.5mm. It is unlikely that they would have been armed with front-line German rifles, as Germany would have needed them by this stage of the war.
Beretta 38
Aren't a few Beretta 38 SMGs seen at the beginning of the film?Foofbun (talk) 04:07, 19 March 2013 (EDT)
Italian Officers' Sidearms
The Italian officers - Battaglia (Adolfo Celi) and Oriani (Sergio Fantoni) - are shown with very smallish holstered sidearms, which they never take out. Can anyone ID them based on the type of holster used? Kooshmeister (talk) 11:35, 14 September 2013 (EDT)

Unknown machine gun?

- My guess is that it is a Breda Modello 37 with fake elongated barrel (like Hotchkiss M1914 in Hornets' Nest). Greg-Z (talk) 03:29, 15 September 2013 (EDT)
