The AEK-919 "Kashtan" ("Chestnut") is a Russian submachine gun developed in the mid-1990s by employees of the Special Design Bureau of the Kovrov Mechanical Plant, based on the Steyr MPi 69/81. The first version of the "Kashtan", indexed AEK-919, was manufactured by an experimental batch, which had time to be tested in a combat situation.
