While it might theoretically be possible to hit it and not have the bullet glance off the curved grenade head, it'd be the kind of show-off trick shooting you wouldn't bother with in actual combat since the guy's head or heart would be a far easier and more reliable shot. Also the bullet wouldn't actually be hot enough to set off the explosive, so you'd have to somehow operate the fuze without destroying it in the process. So it's unlikely you'd hit it at all, unlikely you'd penetrate the head of the grenade even if you did, and ''very'' unlikely you'd arm the grenade with a bullet rather than just rendering it useless (basically impossible with a Stielhandgranate, in fact, since the fuze was a friction-ignition pull cord and bullets aren't noted for their ability to grab on a piece of string and pull it). Grenade Sniping

In the game you can kill Germans by shooting at the grenades on their belt which then explode.

Is this plausible? Because if real life grenades could be set off by stray rounds then that just seems like an incredible liability. BreezyFresh 16:55, 26 April 2012 (GMT)

The head of a grenade is small and moves around a lot as someone moves. So it's unlikely you'd hit it at all, unlikely you'd penetrate the head of the grenade even if you did, and very unlikely you'd arm the grenade with a bullet rather than just rendering it useless (basically impossible with a Stielhandgranate, in fact, since the fuze was a friction-ignition pull cord and bullets aren't noted for their ability to grab on a piece of string and pull it). Hail Mary doesn't even begin to cover it. Evil Tim 02:14, 27 April 2012 (CDT)
With a Stielhandgranate it has a TNT explosive filler which would be unlikely to detonate from impact. However it uses a friction striker in the handle which sets off a burning fuze when you pull the cord, and if you hit the striker you could potentially light the fuze. However, the size of this is about the size of the cap on a pen, and it would be by no means a sure thing that it would hit in the correct way to work, so it is not really a real life issue. --commando552 04:38, 27 April 2012 (CDT)
