The '''''Škorpion''''' ("Scorpio") is a compact Czech submachine gun/machine pistol manufactured by [[CZ|Česká zbrojovka Uherský Brod]] and used by law enforcement agencies and military forces since the 1960s. Originally created by Miroslav Rybář in 1959 as the Š-59, it was adopted in 1961 as the Samopal vzor 61, and launched into mass production in 1963. Although it was developed for security forces, it was also adopted by the Czechoslovak army as a personal defense weapon for personnel of lower military ranks, drivers of vehicles, armored personnel carriers, and special forces. The incredible compactness and ergonomics of the weapon, coupled with its extreme controllability even with full-auto fire, made it popular and desirable. The Škorpion has been widely imported and used all over the world; while it has been accepted by a number of law enforcement agencies and military forces, it has also become notorious in light of its similar popularity among terrorists, most notably the Irish Republican Army and Italian Red Brigades.
A separate highlight is its use in the USSR; while it was never been officially adopted, there is repeated evidence of its use for special purposes, including use by special forces of the KGB and MIA, VIP guards, and service in the security of strategic facilities. While the standard .32 caliber version was mainly used, there are claims that the 9x18mm version was also used.

The 9x18mm model '''vz. 82''' is denoted by its straight magazine, unlike the curved magazine of the .32 ACP vz. 61 Skorpion. The first version of the prototype also featured a two-piece extendable telescopic stock (which was supposed to help with the original's short length), but this feature was never adopted. Note: this weapon was never produced in large quantities (despite statements in some sources that it replaced vz. 61 in the service), therefore, the variants available for appearance in live-action media will likely be civilian semi-auto (initially) versions, such as the vz. 91S and vz. 61 Pistol.

Modernized 9x19mm version of the SA Vz. 61 Skorpion
The '''Sa 361''' is a modernized version of the experimental 9x19mm ZB vz. 68 Skorpion. Originally known as the CZ Škorpion 9x19, it was introduced in 1999. But, it was never put into mass production, because it could not find customers, and until 2004 the plant only produced 85 of these submachine guns. Further attempts led to the improved CZ 868 (also known as the XCZ 868) prototype in 2005, but in the end it was decided to develop a fundamentally new submachine gun chambered for 9x19mm, which led to the [[CZ Scorpion Evo 3]].

The Škorpion ("Scorpio") is a compact Czech submachine gun/machine pistol manufactured by Česká zbrojovka Uherský Brod and used by law enforcement agencies and military forces since the 1960s.
