Sidney Poitier (1927–2022) was an American actor who was the first African-American performer to receive the Academy Award for Best Actor (for the film ''Lilies of the Field''). He was also known for his role as Detective Virgil Tibbs in the film ''[[In the Heat of the Night]]'' and its two sequels. Sidney Poitier (1927–2022) was an American actor who was the first African-American performer to receive the Academy Award for Best Actor (for the film Lilies of the Field).
