After turning down Dirty Harry Wayne witnessed the movie go onto enjoy unexpected box-office success. As a result Wayne would make two modern police dramas back to back. McQ was first followed by Brannigan (1975). In addition to Wayne "McQ" also starred Eddie Albert, Clu Gulager, Al Lettieri, Roger E. Mosley and Colleen Dewhurst. At the end of the film the drug dealer Santiago (Al Lettieri) attempts to kill McQ (John Wayne) with a short barreled "Coach" shotgun. Not surprisingly he fails and McQ takes him down with his MAC-10 submachine gun.
