North and South: Book II (also known as North and South Book 2: Love and War , after the title of the original novel) is a 1986 6-part miniseries, the second part of a trilogy adapted from the trilogy of novels North and South by John Jakes. It depicts the story of two large families: Mains, planters from South Carolina, and Hazards, industrialists from Pennsylvania, during the American Civil War. The main characters are Orry Main (Patrick Swayze ) and George Hazard (James Read ), who became friends while attending the United States Military Academy at West Point. While fighting on opposite sides of the Civil War, they still struggle to maintain their friendship.
The following weapons were used in the miniseries North and South: Book II :

Colt 1851 Navy
Colt 1851 Navy revolvers are widely used throughout the series, notably by Union Brigadier General George Hazard (James Read ), 1st US Sharpshooters regiment Lt. Stephen Kent (Whip Hubley ), and Confederate officers Maj. Joshua Dupree (Patrick Dollaghan ), Capt. Charles Main (Lewis Smith ), Capt. Thomas Turner (Wayne Newton ), Lt. Ambrose Pell (James Houghton ), and Lt. Jimmy Pickles (Gary Grubbs ). These revolvers mostly can be identified as cap and ball guns (see below for cartridge version).

Colt 1851 Navy (Cartridge)
Cartridge Colt 1851 Navy revolvers are also seen. They may be converted original cap and ball guns or modern replicas. Either way, they are anachronistic for the events of the Civil War.
Error creating thumbnail: File missing Colt 1851 Navy with a cartridge conversion. This is a reproduction of the gun used by Eli Wallach in The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly and imported by Cimmaron Arms.
Error creating thumbnail: File missing Salem Jones (Tony Frank ), the dismissed overseer of Mont Royal's plantation, holds a cartridge Colt 1851 Navy.

Error creating thumbnail: File missing Colt 1851 Navy revolvers are seen among the firearms smuggled by Elkanah Bent for the plot against the President of the Confederate States, Jefferson Davis. Most revolvers are cartridge models, except for the second from the left gun with an angular rear part of the trigger guard (a sign of early versions of the Colt Navy) that has slots for percussion caps on the cylinder.
Error creating thumbnail: File missing Elkanah Bent (Philip Casnoff ) holds one of these revolver when he meets his lover Ashton Huntoon (Terri Garber).

Colt 1851 Navy Sheriff's
A compact version of the Colt 1851 Navy , known as the "Sheriff's", with nickel finish is used by Rafe Beaudeen (Lee Horsley), a former Confederate Army officer turned gambler. A blued revolver of the same model is seen in hands of a Confederate soldier during the Battle of Antietam Creek.

Colt 1860 Army
Colt 1860 Army revolvers are widely used throughout the series, notably by 1st US Sharpshooters regiment Lt. Billy Hazard (Parker Stevenson ), Confederate Gen. Orry Main (Patrick Swayze ) (one of two of his usual revolvers, together with a Remington 1858 New Army ) and Capt. Charles Main (Lewis Smith ), Southern volunteer Augusta Barclay (Kate McNeil ), former slave turned gang boss Cuffey (Forest Whitaker ), and dismissed overseer of Mont Royal estate Salem Jones (Tony Frank ). These revolvers are mostly cap and ball guns.

Error creating thumbnail: File missing White seals on the cylinder chambers are also signs of a cap and ball revolver.
Error creating thumbnail: File missing Billy Hazard holds a Colt Army revolver during the Battle of the Wilderness. Again, note the lack of the firing pin on the hammer. In most scenes, Billy is armed with a cartridge version of Colt Army (see below).
Error creating thumbnail: File missing Capt. Charles Main holds a Colt 1851 Navy and a Colt 1860 Army revolver when he fires at Union cavalrymen in Augusta Barclay's house. In previous scenes, Charles had two Remington 1858 New Army revolvers.

Colt 1860 Army (Cartridge)
Two versions of cartridge Colt 1860 Army revolvers are seen.
The first model, mostly used by Lt. Billy Hazard (Parker Stevenson ), lacks the loading lever under the barrel. Gen. Orry Main (Patrick Swayze ) briefly holds this revolver instead of his usual common Colt Army.
The second model has a standard construction, cartridge cylinder, and silver finish; it is seen in the hands of the boss of street thugs in Charleston (uncredited). This revolver has nothing in common with Richards or Richards-Mason conversions and is most likely is a modern replica, made for cartridge loading with keeping the looks of a cap and ball Colt Army.

Remington 1858 New Army (Cartridge)
Capt. Charles Main (Lewis Smith ) mostly carries an anachronistic cartridge version of the Remington 1858 New Army revolver. The same version of this revolver (and possibly the same prop) is also used by Justin LaMotte (David Carradine ) and Orry Main (Patrick Swayze ).
Error creating thumbnail: File missing Remington 1858 New Army (Cartridge Conversion) - .45 Long Colt.
