The drama was created by Aaron Sorkin, who had previously written the screenplays for such films as A Few Good Men and The American President. The cast included Rob Lowe, Bradley Whitford, Allison Janney, Richard Schiff, John Spencer, and Martin Sheen as President Jed Bartlet. The series premiered in the US on NBC in September of 1999 and aired for 7 seasons until 2006. The West Wing garnered several accolades, including four consecutive Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Drama Series.
The following weapons were used in the television series The West Wing:
In Season 2's "In the Shadow of Two Gunmen, Part II" (S2E02), law enforcement officers draw their Beretta 92F pistols when apprehending a suspect.
Beretta 92SB
In the Season 1 finale "What Kind of Day Has It Been" (S1E22), one of the white supremacists uses what appears to be a Beretta 92SB to open fire on President Bartlet (Martin Sheen) and his people.
Beretta 84B
Secret Service Agent Simon Donovan (Mark Harmon) takes what appears to be a Beretta 84B off a convenience store robber in Season 3's finale "Posse Comitatus" (S3E21).
Desert Eagle
In the Season 1 finale "What Kind of Day Has It Been" (S1E22), one of the white supremacists uses a stainless Desert Eagle to open fire on President Bartlet (Martin Sheen) and his staff.
SIG-Sauer P228
In "Mr. Willis of Ohio" (S1E06), SIG-Sauer P228 are seen drawn by Secret Service agents after Zoey Bartlet's panic button is activated in a bar. The SIG-Sauer pistol also is fired by a Secret Service Agent in the Season 1 finale "What Kind of Day Has It Been" (S1E22). In Season 2's episode "In the Shadow of Two Gunmen, Part II" (S2E02), White House Communications Director C.J. Cregg (Allison Janney) mentions that the pistol that the Secret Service carries is a ".357 SIG-Sauer" (only the P229 is chambered for .357), but the weapon seen in the finale appeared to be the 9mm P228.
SIG-Sauer P226
US Secret Service Agent Simon Donovan (Mark Harmon) pulls his SIG-Sauer P226 in Season 3's finale "Posse Comitatus" (S3E21). In reality, the P228 was the issued sidearm around the time of the episode's airing and the Service was in the process of switching over to the P229. USSS Agent Wesley Davis (Taye Diggs) draws his SIG-Sauer pistol in Season 4's "Commencement" (S4E22), but the pistol changes to a Glock later in the episode.
Smith & Wesson Model 66
A convenience store robber appears to be armed with a Smith & Wesson Model 66 in Season 3's finale "Posse Comitatus" (S3E21).
Smith & Wesson Model 686
In Season 3's "We Killed Yamamoto" (S3E20), US Secret Service Agent Simon Donovan (Mark Harmon) is seen firing a .357 Smith & Wesson Model 686 on the range. When Donovan mentions that it's a .357 Magnum, C.J. Cregg (Allison Janney) mentions that "it's a good brand". She also gets to shoot the revolver, but the recoil puts her on the ground.
Glock 34
What appears to be a Glock 34 is held by Secret Service Agent Wesley Davis (Taye Diggs) after he exits the club in Season 4's "Commencement" (S4E22). This is a continuity error as he appeared to carry a SIG-Sauer earlier. The Glock is also not the usual firearm issued by the Secret Service.
Submachine Guns
Heckler & Koch MP5A3
In Season 2's "In the Shadow of Two Gunmen, Part II" (S2E02), SWAT officers are armed with Heckler & Koch MP5A3's as they apprehend one of the suspects in the assassination plot against the President.
Heckler & Koch MP5A5
In Season 3's finale "Posse Comitatus" (S3E21), a Black Ops team is seen using what appears to be the Heckler & Koch MP5A5 to assassinate a foreign defense minister suspected of terrorist activities.
In Season 5's "Gaza" (S5E21), Palestinian forces are seen carrying AKM rifles.
M1 Garand
The M1 Garand rifle is seen held by members of a Marine honor guard detail in Season 1's "In Excelsis Deo" (S1E10). A Marine also is seen performing rifle drills with a Garand in Season 1's "Lies, Damn Lies, and Statistics" (S1E21).
M16A2
IDF troops are seen carrying M16A2 rifles in Season 5's "Gaza" (S5E21).
Colt Commando
The Colt Commando is used by FBI agents that apprehend the suspect in Season 2's "In the Shadow of Two Gunmen, Part II" (S2E02).
Remington 700PSS
A Remington 700PSS is fired by a Secret Service countersniper in the Season 1 finale "What Kind of Day Has It Been" (S1E22). In the episode "In the Shadow of Two Gunmen, Part II" (S2E02), White House Communications Director C.J. Cregg (Allison Janney) mentions that the weapon used was a "726 caliber" custom made rifle designated a "JAR" (Just Another Rifle), but the one seen here appears to be the 700PSS.
