Despite being touted as a remake or sequel to the 1992 film Bad Lieutenant, the director Werner Herzog insists that this is an original work only vaguely following the same story of a drug addicted and violent police detective surrounded by crime and sex. The official international title is The Bad Lieutenant:Port of Call - New Orleans

Smith & Wesson Model 29

LT. Terence McDonagh (Nicolas Cage) uses a Smith & Wesson Model 29 with 6.5" barrel as his weapon of choice. He carries it inside his pants and without a holster. McDonagh refers to it as a ".44 Mag" when he asks Mundt (Michael Shannon) to bring it back. It's doubtful any police department would allow that caliber nor the lack of a holster.
