Return To Lonesome Dove
Return To Lonesome Dove is the 1993 sequel miniseries to 1989's groundbreaking Lonesome Dove. The sequel uses characters created by Larry McMurtry in the original novel, but is a completely new story. In this miniseries, Jon Voight took over the role of Captain Woodrow Call (original miniseries star Tommy Lee Jones was busy filming The Fugitive at the time) and Barbara Hershey took over the role of Clara Allen (replacing Anjelica Huston). Reprising their roles from the original miniseries were Rick Schroder as Newt Dobbs, Timothy Scott as Pea Eye Parker, Barry Tubb as Jasper Fant and Chris Cooper as July Johnson.
The following weapons were used in the miniseries Return To Lonesome Dove:
Handguns
Colt 1873 SAA
The Colt Single Action Army is given a predominant role throughout the mini-series, but other makes and models do make appearances. Numerous characters use the Colt SAA.
Colt 1877 Thunderer
Gregor Dunnigan (Oliver Reed) carries a nickel plated short barreled Colt 1877 Thunderer without the ejecter rod. It appears that his model has the 3.5" barrel. It also appears to be the slighty larger 1877 "Thunderer" in .41 Colt. It would be an appropriate revolver for a man of his status to carry. The story takes place in 1878, but being a wealthy man Gregor would be able to afford the very latest revolver from Colt.
Though several characters are seen using a Colt 1860 Cartridge Conversion the model recieves the most prominent use by the outlaw Jack Jackson (Dennis Haysbert). The revolver is very close to a Richards Conversion, but with a few differences. Possibly it is a modern reproduction.
Colt 1860 Army
During the ambush Clara Allen (Barbara Hershey) grabs what appears to be a Colt 1860 Army from one of the dead vaqueros and fires at the ambushers.
Remington 1875
Lippy Jones (William Sanderson) carries a nickle plated Remington 1875 revolver.
Remington 1858 New Army
It appears that Captain Gideon Walker (William Petersen) carries a Remington 1858 New Army. It is unknown if it is a cartridge conversion or a percussion model. The model is also used by one of Dunnigan's cowboys.
Colt Walker
The Colt Walker appears in the hands of extras throughout the mini-series. Typically there are just brief glimpses of the old Colt .44 percussion revolver.
Smith & Wesson No.3 Russian Model
During an ambush Gideon Walker (William Petersen) takes a Smith & Wesson No.3 Russian Model from a dead vaquero and uses it along with his Remington revolver. It appears later being used by Captain Call (Jon Voight).
Shotguns
Double Barreled "coach" Shotgun
Sara Pickett (CCH Pounder) keeps a Double Barreled "coach" shotgun in her wagon driving the horse drive and gets the drop on Jack Jackson (Dennis Haysbert) with it. The make and model is unknown.
Double Barreled Shotgun
A utilitarian 12 Gauge Double Barreled Shotgunis carried briefly by Newt (Rick Schroder) when he is paroled to Gregor Dunnigan (Oliver Reed), who hands him the shotgun because a surly lynch mob is following them.
Rifles
Winchester Model 1866 "Yellow Boy"
Jack Jackson (Dennis Haysbert) uses a Winchester Model 1866 "Yellow Boy". Jasper (Barry Tubb) is also shown carrying a "Yellow Boy" in episode one.
Winchester Model 1873
Captain Call (Jon Voight) uses a Winchester Model 1873 during a fight with Indian renegades.Augustina Vega (Nia Peeples) also uses a Winchester 1873 as does Isom Pickett (Louis Gossett Jr.).
Henry Repeater
Pea Eye Parker (Timothy Scott) uses a Henry 1860 "Repeater".
Spencer 1860 Repeater
At the start of the climactic confrontation between the big ranchers and the independents it appears that Pea Eye (Timothy Scott) is using a Spencer Repeater Carbine.
