Based on the caper novel by Carl Hiaasen, the film stars Demi Moore as Erin Grant, a single mother working as an exotic dancer to pay for an expensive custody battle with her ex-husband (Robert Patrick ). Grant's act also attracts the attention of a lecherous United States Congressman (Burt Reynolds ).

Darrell Grant (Robert Patrick ) steals a Smith & Wesson 5906 from his sister's trailer. Later, he pulls and attempts to fire it on Malcolm Moldowsky (Paul Guilfoyle ), however nothing happens and he tosses it away in disgust.
