Please note that some movies and TV shows feature the Norinco Type 84, which is a Chinese AK variant that looks similar to the AK-74 but is chambered in 5.56x45mm. Do not confuse these with the genuine mil-spec AK-74.

The AKS-74U isn't an AK-47 variant at all; it was chambered for the lighter 5.45x39 round in an effort to help keep the gun from being uncontrollable, although this effort was a failure. It is seen in many movies and video games with unrealistic accuracy.
