Tears of the Sun
The following weapons appear in the film Tears of the Sun:
M4A1 Carbine SOPMOD
The team can be seen using M4A1 carbines with SOPMOD (Special Operations Peculiar Modification) accessories, carried by Lieutenant A.K. Waters (Bruce Willis), Danny "Doc" Kelley (Paul Francis), Jason "Flea" Mabry (Chad Smith), Kelly Lake (Johnny Messner), and Ellis "Zee" Pettigrew (Eamonn Walker) as their primary weapons. "Flea" has a 6x48 Sightron S33 scope on the carry handle and a silencer. Flea's M4 is also has a custom paintjob of green and black, while "Lake" has an M68 Aimpoint and a suppressor on his rifle.
M16A2 Rifle
A number of M16A2 rifles can be seen in the hands of the U.S. Marines when they arrive in Cameroon to pick up Lt. Waters and his SEAL team.
M203 Grenade Launcher
Both "Doc" and "Zee" carry M4A1's fitted with M203 grenade launchers as well as M68 Aimpoint scopes.
M60E4 Machine Gun
The M60E4 machine gun appears in the film being used by James "Red" Atkins (Cole Hauser) as his primary weapon, fitted with a duckbill-style muzzle brake used on the Navy version, the Mk43. Members of the rescue team that meets Winters' group and the refugees at the border can also be seen with M60E4's.
M60D Machine Gun
there are two appearances of M60D machine guns in the film. In both instances, they are door-mounted on U.S. Navy SH-60 Seahawk helicopters.
M3 Heavy Machine Gun
Near the end of the film, a Browning M3 heavy machine gun can be seen door-mounted on a U.S. Navy SH-60 Seahawk helicopter that lands at the Cameroon border after the final battle.
Heckler & Koch Mk 23 mod 0
The Heckler & Koch Mk 23 Mod 0 is used by members of the SEAL team as their secondary weapon, seen fitted with sound suppressors during the ethnic cleansing scene where the team take out the militia members in the villiage.
M249 SAW Paratrooper
A paratrooper version of the M249 SAW appears in the film used by Michael "Slo" Slowenski (Nick Chinlund) as his primary weapon, with a cloth ammo pouch. After he's killed in a shootout with the militia fighters, Demetrius "Silk" Owens (Charles Ingram) takes it and uses it for the remainder of the film.
M25 Sniper Rifle
An M25 sniper rifle, the Navy's equivalent of the U.S. Army's M21 Designated Marksman Rifle, appears being used by Demetrius "Silk" Owens (Charles Ingram) as his primary weapon. Silk's rifle is covered in strips of green burlap and a green camo paint scheme.
Remington 870 Shotgun
Lake also uses a Remington 870 shotgun with an extended tube and a sidesaddle for extra shells on the left side of the reciever. The shotgun is sometimes preferred for close quarters and in the jungle, often used by the pointman in the team. After Lake takes an unfatal shot to the right shoulder, "Flea" takes his Remington 870, because Lake can only use one arm. Flea then fires all seven shots and most likey drops the shotgun, due to its long reload time. Flea then uses his M4 until he is shot.
M67 Hand Grenade
During the final battle with the militia fighters, the team can be seen using M67 hand grenades.
SIG-Sauer P226
Danny "Doc" Kelley (Paul Francis) wields a SIG-Sauer P226 as his sidearm, using it during the ethnic cleansing scene and during the final battle when he runs out of ammo for his M4 and resorts to this pistol until he can reload.
M18A1 Claymore
Another weapon used by the team is several M18A1 Claymore anti-personnel mines. they're first used by "Red" to ambush the militia fighters pursuing them and buy the group some extra time, and again during the final battle.
M72 LAW
Both Lake and "Slo" can be seen carrying M72 LAW rocket launchers slung on their back during the film. "Red" takes Slo's LAW after he's killed, and both rockets are fired during the final battle with the militia fighters.
AK-47 Rifle
At least one of the Cameroon border guards can be seen armed with an AK-47 rifle near the end of the film. This particular AK-47 is obviously a Post Ban US import, evidence of this is shown by the lack of a slant muzzle break
It is also possible that it is simply an AK-47 as not all original AK-47s had a slant muzzle break.
AKM Rifle
Both refugees and militia fighters can be seen using AKM rifles throughout the film.
Norinco Type 56
Both the militia fighters, Cameroon border guards, and the refugees can be seen using Norinco Type 56 rifles, both the original fixed-stock and folding stock Type 56-1 variants. Some of them also have the fixed bayonets as well as AKM-style muzzle brakes. "Doc" can also be seen carrying a Type 56 slung on his back, but never uses it.
SKS Rifle
SKS rifles can be seen being used by militia fighters and at least one refugee, the refugee saving Lt. Waters' life when he uses it to kill a machete-toting militia fighter attacking him from behind.
Karabiner 98k
Some of the militia fighters can be seen carrying WW2-vintage Karabiner 98k rifles.
DShK Heavy Machine Gun
In the aftermath of the ethnic cleansing scene, a DShK heavy machine gun can be seen mounted on the back of a flatbed truck.
- You can be almost 95% sure that it is an M2 fifty dressed up like a DShK. Big soviet guns like that aren't too easy to acquire. -GM
AKMSU Carbine
During the final battle, one of the militia fighters can be seen brandishing an AKMSU carbine.
RPK Light Machine Gun
One of the militia fighters brought in as reinforcements for the final battle can be seen carrying an RPK light machine gun.
Type 69 RPG
Many of the militia fighters can be seen using Type 69 RPGs, especially during the final battle.
M1911A1
During the final battle several militia fighters, including a senior officer who serves as second-in-command, can be seen with M1911A1 pistols as their sidearms.
