Return from the River Kwai
![]() Your lack of effort is duly noted. This article is a candidate for deletion. IMFDB expects certain minimal standards from articles; even if a contributor cannot take their own screenshots, it is still possible to create detailed per-weapon writeups and format an article correctly. Simply dumping a couple of weapon names on a page is essentially demanding we do all the work for you, and this is unacceptable. |
Return from the River Kwai is a 1989 WWII film that stars Timothy Bottoms, Chris Penn, and George Takei. The film involves events surrounding the infamous "Death Railway" built in Burma during the war by the Japanese using forced labor that included captured POW's. A similar premise was famously seen in the classic 1957 film The Bridge on the River Kwai, but this film is not a sequel despite the name and had to carry a legal disclaimer stating so.
The following guns were used in the movie Return from the River Kwai:
M1911
Lt Crawford (Chris Penn) hesitates to use an M1911 on a Japanese Soldier.
Sterling SMG
The Sterling SMG is used by Lt. Crawford (Chris Penn) during the failed attack on the POW Train. As this weapon was designed around 1944 and rumors of first batches been used in Operation Market Garden, may have been possible but very unlikely that this SMG would have been seen in the Pacific Theater.
Sten submachine gun
A Sten SMG is used by (Denholm Elliott) on Patrol with the Chindits, and during the failed attack on the POW Train.
No.4 Lee Enfield
The No4 Lee Enfield is used by the Chindits during the failed attack on the POW Train.
M1917 Browning machine gun
An Browning M1917 machine gun is seen being transported by the Chindits until it gets damaged when dropped with other equipment.
Browning M2HB
A Browning M2HB is seen mounted on the Japanese POW transport ship.
