M4 in this movie?

In the script, someone said "This is the Carb 15, military designator: M4". So I assumed there we'll see an M4 like weapon, but so far, I didn't see anything. During the dialogue, all we see is the barrel end of a Car-15 Excalibur01 10:17, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

Is that tbe barrel of an M4?
Yeah, in the movie he says, "This is a CAR-15, military designation M4". Which is, of course, far from true. The weapons I see in the screenshots all have the XM177-style flash hider, but the receiver types vary - some have the M16A1-style receiver, others the M16A2-style receiver. I'd guess they're just other AR carbine types with barrels chopped and fake XM177 flash hider installed, which MPM says characterizes the majority of such weapons seen in movies. -MT2008 15:53, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

Unidentified Rifle - FAL?

I spotted one of the Rangers carrying some sort of 7.62mm rifle at roughly one hour and fifty minutes into the movie. It's just after they get the redirect to their new extract point.

To my civilian eyes it looks like a FAL of some kind. Anyone able to be more specific?

--Stix

It is definitely a FAL (metric pattern not inch pattern, can tell by the bolt handle in the second shot and the front sight wings) but without seeing the stock type or barrel length can't nail it down 100%. It has the regular three vent plastic handguard, so would just go for a regular FN FAL 50.00. --commando552 (talk) 04:55, 3 October 2012 (EDT)

Strange that a Ranger should be toting a FAL huh? I wonder why they (director/armourers) decided to put that gun in the dude's hands...? I wondered if perhaps the Ranger team had gotten into some sort of contact earlier and the gun had been taken, or stolen, as a souvenir. Did the armed forces or anyone else in Libya ever use FALs? On that note, how common is "souvenir hunting" among American or other NATO servicemen? Is it actually allowed? --Stix #ps - thanx c552 for cleaning up my messy first edit :D
