Madsen Model 1924
Madsen Model 1924 aircraft machine guns are seen mounted on the trucks in the opening scene. They appear to be mocked up to resemble Browning M1919 machine guns by fitting a cosmetic box over the bottom and rear of the receiver, but they can be identified as Madsens by the shape of the top of the receiver. The cosmetic alterations to the gun obstruct the belt feed of the gun meaning that they would be unable to function, however these guns have never fired in the movie.

Error creating thumbnail: File missing The gunner was shot before he could open fire. Note the the last round on the belt is hooked into a slot in such a way that the next round would not be able to feed into the gun. This is purely to hold the belt in place for this M1919 mock up, with the actual belt feed on a Madsen being built into the ammunition box and attaching lower on the weapon. Also visible in this shot is the cosmetic chroud over the bottom section of the weapon, with the true receiver being visible from the front.
